Along with TA22's these have always been a favourite of mine but i've never been able to afford one, until this deal. Anyway, i am going to pick it up next weekend, but here are a few teasers for ya. Now this bad boy comes with so many spares its not even funny, including a completely new, black interior. Everything, dash pad, door cards, seats, hood lining, and carpet, all retrimed or new. My favourite part of the car so far. Anyway, the plan is to get it all back together, completely factory, see if i can even track down some hubcaps, probably like these http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b134824544 Then i'll get it all registered etc, then smack the rebuilt 5k that also comes with the car in, drive it for a bit and start my search for some nice 13's, tuck them under some te27 replica flares, and add a te27 replica boot spoiler and maybe a chin spoiler. j_bone Posted September 25, 2012 Author Share Posted September 25, 2012 So I picked her up on saturday and filled up two cars full to the roof with parts. This is about half of the parts I got with it, just a matter of sorting out whats what. Heres the 25 in all its glory, has been rubbed back in prep for its final polish With so much to do I didn't really know where to start, so I grabbed my manual and decided to start at the front, so I started putting the motor together first. It is a 5k that the previous owner had rebuilt. Im not too sure how well it's been done, so I pulled the sump off, had a look and checked all the torques then sealed it up, wacked the head on and found that its a hydraulic lifter setup, i'll change this down the track but its pretty mild for now so it should be sweet. Anyway, pushrods, rocker gear, and Bobs your uncle. Have so many little issues to sort, mostly to do with finding the right parts in my new found collection. j_bone Posted October 11, 2012 Author Share Posted October 11, 2012 Okay, Last weekend I went to Manfield to crew for my boss in GT2 and superlap. Whilst there I met Andre and Ben from STM and got to go for a ride in there new 86. Whilst it wasn't fast in a straight line, it did have some pep, and alot of spirit, which gave me the idea of 'Dream Chaser'. Basically a new 86 would be a dream car of mine, but unreachable in the foreseeable future. So the mantra for my project will be to 'chase' the performance of an 86 in my KE25. Now I have something to ultimately aim for. To speed up workings on the car I have also taken a week off work. Progress so far: Got all the brake lines done using new pipe aswell as a few original ones that I buffed to look mint. Condition of the original wheels After sand blasting After primer and paint, used VHT wheel paint and came up mint Fitted new valves and new Nankangs- 155/80/R12's Getting the last pieces of interior sorted. The new interior is all black but the original sun visors were tan and yuck. My upholsterer recommended I just spray them. Quick scuff, clean then a few licks of VHT vynal dye and they were done. j_bone Posted October 12, 2012 Author Share Posted October 12, 2012 Quick run down of the days events: Been having trouble getting the right clutch for my car, mostly due to other peoples mistakes. Anyway, got the right clutch and flywheel skimmed today. Heres the goods. Fitted. Manifolds fitted. Engine in. Box in. Shifter and what I've been told is a TE27 Gear Knob fitted. Time to fit things into here. Like the dash. Miles and Rev counter type, stoaked. Dash pad that's been re-trimmed and dash panel that's been painted. j_bone Posted October 14, 2012 Author Share Posted October 14, 2012 Been a bit slower than I would have liked this weekend, but still have kept moving forward. On Saturday I shot out to Mark (AE25)s shed where he was being his ever-helpful self. He gave me a few little bits and pieces i'm missing and we then figured out how to get a late model 5k carb working on my setup. What a top notch guy. So this weekend I have managed to get the carb on, and plumbed, pictures will follow. Door cards all back together. They're retrimmed and look sweet, like most of the interior. Test fitted the carpet and rear seats. Brand new carpet and the seats look to be vinyl sprayed. I must say it looks frigan awesome. Amongst all my bits I found this, to match the wood styled dash and glove box, i'm told stereo types are very rare. Looks cool to me either way. Here is the driveshaft, shortly before it was installed Block to box braces, now installed also The carb i'm using required the left hand styled cable end, where as the original ke2 type one is on the right. The left one is off a KP starlet. (Thanks to mark for both) Again the left shows the KP cable, but this time at the pedal end. And the right the original, that works the accelerator in the car. Cut end off original cable Grind down lug on the end of KP cable, wack the orginal end over that. Boom, hope she holds. j_bone Posted October 15, 2012 Author Share Posted October 15, 2012 Had a reasonable day today, got a few bits and pieces done. Radiator in. Fuel line and filter in. Tank breather line in, this normally vents to under the car, but being a later model carb, it can be vented into there, so I have Carb is pretty well all hooked up, just looking for either a new air filter housing, or i'll modify the one I have Filled the engine up with oil. Using Motul Tekma Norma 15w40. Quality mineral oil with minimal additives, so will make a good run in oil. Had to make up this silly blue hose as no one local had the right threaded stuff in anything else and I just wanted it done. Plumbed up the Heated lines and used new brass fittings. Radiator all plumbed, shrouds on and fan attached. Painted and fitted bonnet stay Fitted brand new bonnet release cable Fitted bonnet latch mechanism And the other part After trying a few brackets for the accelerator cable, this was the only one that was going to work. j_bone Posted October 22, 2012 Author Share Posted October 22, 2012 Been very busy with other commitments, so lazy update. Half of dash is in. Wood grain look-a-like, yum yum! Here on the right we have an original rear view mirror and on the right we have a plastic replacement. Didn't really like the plastic one, so made a hybrid on by using the original steel base and installing the new mirror and light cover to it. Grabbed this stuff from Aaron today (Thanks dude!) Buffed top cover as wasn't the prettiest. Quick spray and looks tidy Also installed the exhaust heat shield part of the factory intake assembly to stop the carb freezing up in winter, although by then I should have sideys and extractors anyway. j_bone Posted November 11, 2012 Author Share Posted November 11, 2012 Way too long without an update. A mixture of being too busy to get much done on the car and even less time to update. Seats have been retrimmed but retain the original pressed corolla logo panel that have been vinyl sprayed to match. All seats installed etc. Originally these cars come with 3x6 inch speakers, but try finding some locally. Even reasonably priced 4x6s are getting much harder to come by, so I got some 'value for money' fusion 4 inch items with adapter plates. Installed. The idea with the audio is to make some nice and reasonably period speaker boxes for the parcel tray. To run then show i'm looking at getting a JVC bluetooth unit that can be controlled remotely via a smartphone so I can hide the headunit under the seat or in the dash. Fuel cap and trim installed. Cleaned the dirty old seatbelts. They have a bit of sun fading so they may have to be replaced. Rear seats and belts in. Handbrake in. Dash all done. Accelerator pedal and assembly in. Windscreen in. Bled the brakes today, worked sweet when I fixed all the leaks, but it seems like the front brakes are binding, much have to rekit them. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
