LingLing
sorry, I screwed up last thread, but any way that's gone. So the story was, I bought a car to honor my grandfather who died of cancer. and I bought this thing 99% cancer free. He should like it right? some original photos me and ed went over there spent good half hour to check the car expecting the car isn't as tidy as the owner said. but it was so i bought it. The history goes like this: Imported 1991, Damage Free vehical as VIR report says. 15 years of lady owner, 3 ish years of a dude who did all the rust/respay work I would assume 4-5 years owned by Nick the last owner, didn't pretty much nothing except the usual stuff. So I pulld 80% of interior out and found the following serious Rust: both top of quater glass have some rust around the hatch seal: Then... Accident repair............. There is a dent repair at the left rear corner, pretty rough work looking from the inside as someone was trying to push the dent out.. pretty gutted. Ed how did we miss this one??? Probably need to spend some good money to repair it back to at least look normal. bit at the fuel cap Once I have finished paying 20g dead, I will fix and fish oil everything. that's it for now, no discussion is required. LingLing
So Now I have Paid up all my Dead, It's time to spent little bit money on this car. The Car is Fully insured with Swann Insurance as Classical Cover. The plan is to keep everything original slowly Put it back to Mint Factory and I Have already done Few Minor mods on it. Restoration: Factory Air intake + Air Box Back in. Minor Mods: TRD 2 Way LSD. Front and Rear TRD Sway bars. Cusco Extractor, Apexi Resonator with Stainless Steel Exhaust(needs mounting). It is still very civilised If I don't Push it above 3000rpm, after that then... well it's not going to be Granny friendly. Two Lowmax Bride seats, Don't know if I ever want to put them in. Now back to the Old questions again: My plan is to have Bilstein Customise Valved shocks to put in it. Also With TRD Racing Springs. So I bought the Rear TRD Springs from Nict, the car sits way way too low, The the shocks are way way too long. Has Anyone had any experience with TRD Springs? Would the Lowering Springs suit the Normal height shocks, with out cutting my bump stop?
LingLing
Got Blown engine today. Water Pump Pretty much just dumped all the Coolant, don't know what caused it. Temperature was only 70% of the gauage far from the red, but again don't know how accurate it was. the car engine revs up and down when was hot at idel, and most annoyly it BLEW White or BLUE Smokes. I probably drove the car around 5-10mins after I felt not right, but as I mentioned the Temperature gauge was far from red. Anyone know what Caused the smokes? and Would there be any engine damage ? LingLing
so , Entire cooling system is replaced with Factory Toyota Products Except Radiator. including water pump, thermostate, all gaskets and hoses. So, this is customized heat shield for the dizzy, it is secured with one of the screws on the Spark leads mount, and then one cable tie. The dizzy heat shield is bit hot, probably need to make another heat shield for No.1 and 2 exhaust.
LingLing
This should do it. bit more mods on the actual dizzy heat shield before I put it on, and will call it a day.
LingLing
Right, The heat shield is complete. Not the last word of persicion engineering, but it does the job pretty well. and Also I noticed everytime I start the car in the morning, the car blows a puf of blue smoke, this means the valve stem seal is gone? LingLing
ok, shitty day for me, scratched my front bump when going into the garage, fuck~! so I now, Let's just restore the car back to facotry spec exterior wise. painting both front and rear bumper to black. Respray the guard and door trims I got from rob. Painting the very bottom( below the doors to black?) Bbuying new stickers. and taking out all the rust I could find after taking all the interior out. also I have Found Original factory catalogue, for Trueno Prefacelift, Facelift and Levin(not sure what type). http://www.2shared.com/document/W3URYxE ... no-01.html http://www.2shared.com/document/riKrg1x ... no-02.html http://www.2shared.com/document/QeVo1hh9/ae86levin.html
LingLing
So some of the rust repair work is done. Quarter windows rust was done by grind it back to bare metal. The one near by the fuel tank is done by cut and weld. Not the that tidy in terms of finishing. But he gave me 5 Years rust free warranty. Pretty happy with that and money is well spent. After taking the Rear bumper off, there was some rust at Lower Left wheel arch, both bottom of tool compartment. Because they ain't really at these places people can see, thinking to do some cut and weld myself later, and Probably wouldn't be fussed about painting them properly. LingLing
After failing once at one of the quarter glass. Now it's finally all back together. the Quarter glass trim is surperisingly easy to put on. and here is the photo. Can't tell they have been off before if you don't it for more than 5 mins. One of the major imperfection would be the upper part of one side has about 1-2mm gap between the glass and the trim. The reason for that is I stuffed it up for once, with hard and urethane. Then I had to redo it again but this time with soft urethane, so the glass had pushed bit further inside. Anyway I am very happy with the result. maybe just maybe next time will be faster, easier and better. Had fished oil heaps of the quarter glass. and some sills, will do all the sills etc. before I put interior back on. Now it's time to enjoy this shit before I do anything Major. Question: Hatch struts decided to be weak. Saw some in supercheap not sure the sizes, but beside that any suggestions?
LingLing
So been doing this thing over the weekend. Got these set from Rob(4age addict) different colours and also heavy scratches etc. So spraying it is the only option. Took ages to sanding them. also failed more than once to spray some of these due to the Vinyl Spray I am using. Then Took ages to get the position right when put on the car. but the result is actually very satisfactory . Camera is shit tho. After Sanding. After spraying After put on the car. LingLing
Been doing few small things lately. Mostly sanding painting etc. Side indicators faded shit, took me 3 hours to mask them up. then screwed up with gloss paint which is designed to go on metal. Resprayed it with Flat black. Result is pretty average as. Better condition side mirrors, took housing apart found it rusty as inside. so used most people Favourite tool to grind off the rust. Had option to use flat black, flat black ,white, or aluminium. Aluminium sounded more sexually attractive and industrially dirty. Turned out to be shit, paint just still comes off after overnight drying. While at the mirrors, mise just take the door apart. replaced the side mirror holding plate. rusty as, as they all do that. Also fish oiled inside the door while at it. Some small bits like the radiator holder and the battery mount. Also, I thought every body else is a messy cunt. LingLing
so , Some of you might know the crank pulley came off, luckily it was resting on the underbody panel(Lucky most of this car's under body panel are still here) Thanks for KK and OS GC guided me thru the following process. Found the crank pulley bolt at Tama autos. bought new Alternator belt as last one was stuff while the pulley came off. As I was already there, let's check the Time belt tensioner as well. Pulled it out, It seems to be good, except tiny bear noise. So screw that, bought one from Now my best mate Keisuke at BNT. under 48 dollars, while repco wants 98 dollars LOL. Cable tie is a great way to make sure your cambelt doesn't become loose after you pulled the tensioner out. Was bit mission to get the tensioner spring back together, Then I found it's way easier to push the pulley as close as possible tight up the nut. so didn't have to stress the spring as much while putting it on. then loosen the bolt to let it adjust itself. and tight up again. Going to torque the Tensioner and Crank pulley up soon The following picture is pure pornography. thanks STEVE This thing probably worth more than mine engine LOL. Has same torque as Mitsubishi Evo and WRX STI. It beeps and vibrates like your Iphone while reach the set mark. So Easy to do the crank pulley nut up. it's like using 1/2 drive to tight up a 10mm bolt.

LingLing
so while putting the bumper on, I mise just take the guards out to check the rust etc. mainly clean the Dirt and Leafs at bottom of the guards. and also surface rust killed primed up the door hinges. While Everything Looks super clean, There are some surface rust at the draining exit area. The reason for this mainly is because of shit design. There are three lays of metal and it is sealed with these factory sealant. So,bent the last layer slightly, Sand, rust kill primer, Epoxy enamel paint. The other side I probably pushed bit too hard, found a small hole from a sealant came off. looks very factory, so the sealant covered up a hole from factory? Anyway, again sand, rust kill primer, epoxy enamel paint then sealed it with urethane. Also, sanded the bottom of the front wheel arch to check rust, found only steel. so that's good sign. Fish oiled the bottom of two guards ,and Put everything back. the new bumper looks shit? or I need to get used to it.
