hmmmnz Posted February 3, 2012 Share Posted February 3, 2012 well i thought i'd start a thread for prosperity sake, pics first this is a day or say after i bought it, its the smaller 2.6l (161c.i.) straight 6, with a 4 speed bedford box, and triumph tc2000 front seats instead of the bench havn't really done much as yet, new oil, filter, rear shocks, and universal joint, shocks were the first, made a huge difference, and a couple of days later had to do the universal joint as it shit itself, then a couple of days after that, i had to replace the points and condensor and new battery, as it was back firing and playing merry hell, oh i had to rebuild the generator (old school dc genny not alternator) have got a set of extractors on the way, should be here wednesday next week, (my header has a small hole next to where the header joins the pipe, so keeps eating gaskets, my plans for the car are, guages, - oil pressure, water temp, volts, and rev counter, stereo - unsure what i'll do, either try and find a really really old one, and mod an input for mp3 player, or just buy a new one, wiring - originally it was a positive earth, but has been partially converted to neg earth, but a few things run backwards, heater sucks instead of blows, window wipers stop in wrong place (running backwards) fix internal light, sway bar - mine is bent and bushes are shagged power steering - there was an option to have power steering from the factory, mine doesnt have it,and i want it!!! brake booster - could do with one wheels - i like the white walls and the hub caps, so i'll probably stick with that, but would like some slightly wider tyres on the back, wether that means new rims, or altering the originals, who knows as yet dash - walnut dash laquar is flaking/peeling, need to strip and redo, im almost tempted to replace the walnut with some rimu i have kicking about, a bit of kiwi in the old english dog think thats it, will post pics as it happens Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

hmmmnz Posted February 27, 2012 Author Share Posted February 27, 2012 well both engines and gear boxs are out, a right mission to say the least, none of the usual, unbolt bell housing, then pull out engine, in typical british fashion, the gear box must come out first, with out the bell housing, basically drive shaft off, gear box mount, then tip the motor and box back, then get 1 bolt at the top from unde the car, and the other frm inside the car down through the gear stick hole, then remove the bottom 2 bolts, which are inside the bell housing!!! fun times, pics the 2 boxes, victor 4 speed + over drive on left, bedford 4 speed on right victor motor (3.3l of awesomeness) velox engine ready to be lifted out and shes out!! empty velox success !! sumps, mounts etc next up then 3.3l back in the velox, Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
hmmmnz Posted February 29, 2012 Author Share Posted February 29, 2012 ok update, sump changed, (and panel beaten) gasket changed oil pump changed. fuel pump changed, (freshly rebuilt) water pump rebuilt lump ready to go in and shes in.... well almost had to remove the starter motor as it was fouling on the firewall ill chuck the velox one in its place tomorrow, also took the old intake/exhaust gasket to shuk engineering so they can make me a new one (plus a spare) gear box tomorrow, Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
hmmmnz Posted March 25, 2012 Author Share Posted March 25, 2012 right a plyotha of 13 hour days at work have now finished so have been able to throw a couple of hours at the old girl, 1st weekend / day off in a month and its mostly been spent lying under the bloody car, i finally cracked the clutch actuation, what a bloody mission, but on the plus side, its super light, almost like a race clutch, any wa some pics and a bonus vid to prove that shes alive 4Rrphw8p3TI still have to sot the exhaust, and electrics Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

hmmmnz Posted March 29, 2012 Author Share Posted March 29, 2012 right, managed to get away from work early today, so went to my local bmc mini shop and stole an alternator off them, (well didnt steal, handed over a wad of cash actually) chucked it in and she was good to go, all electrics now working pics and my new radio, soon to be gutted and fitted with a stereo amp (inside) and an external input, debating wether i really even need the radio part ... but you never know when a bit of radio rhema i needed (is radio rhema even still running? ) oh and this is my over drive switch lol more news as it happens Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
hmmmnz Posted April 17, 2012 Author Share Posted April 17, 2012 well the 3.3 had a good shake down, i drove to wellington and back over easter, 4 adults, a boot full of luggage, towing a trailor and a 300kg bike, i had to do a couple of tweaks to the clutch actuation on the way down, when initially the adjustment arm loosened off, and it wasn't quite engaging the clutch fully, and then again in wellington, when id tightened up a couple of bolts too tight and the clutch wasn't disengaging properly, no dramas on the way home, and total repair time was less than 10 minutes, so pretty impressed, the car happily would do over 100kmh fully laden with trailer even running the smaller 2.6l carb (still waiting on accelerator pump for the 34 wiat carb) pics of te car in wellington on the rare sunny days i used about 1/2 a litre of oil for just over 1000km and about 120l of gas (24mpg bugger ) still got a long list of stuff that needs to happen before im completely happy with the car, but its a good start Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
hmmmnz Posted July 11, 2012 Author Share Posted July 11, 2012 well, been a while, havn't done much due to the shear amount of time spent at work lately, but.. i fitted an extra leaf to the back suspension, the old 50 year old leaves were sagging badly, and very boat like, also every time you hit a bump at would hit the bump stops, had an old mazda e2000 diff etc with the leaves still attached that look suitable for the purpose, had a quick measure up, not really expecting a jap leaf to be a suitable width,.. but do you know what?? they were the exact same width, and about double the thickness to boot!!! choice, also front sway bar bushes were slogged out, which obviously wasn't helping with the boat like handling. even better though was the fact that one had a gm part number, and were in stock at $9.95 each wicked!! i swear every time i do something to do with suspension on a car, im always surprised how big a difference it makes, so shes all in, rides im sure pretty close to how it would have came out of the factory, quite impressed really, pics tomorrow Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
