Anyone else found some random or cool stuff after buying a new ride? Ive found all kinds of things: money,"contraband", music cds/tapes & fap magazines.
Was going through the glovebox of the VG and found a couple shotgun shells and its last two WOFs, flew through its last one apparently. Also found some rusty old shit down inside the left rear guard(sockets, chain) and a knife and pouch.

Jeez where do I start?
In order from 1st car owned (1988) to most recent:
Simca 1000- french car with engine in rear(crashed trying to rally drive it)
HQ wagon- more rust than body and had to work wipers by hand etc but would never die
XA Falcons x3 - tryed to turn one into madmax replica lol and did another as a GT replica
XB Fairmont- aussie assembled
Bedford CF van- 350/th350, blue with bodykit and huge Hoosiers on the rear
Hillman Hunter- standard with auto
AFTER MOVING TO CHCH IN '93:
Datsun 180B- cool little runabout, sold to wrecker for $50! to buy next car
Holden Sunbird- 173,4spd, not sure what work done to it but it was nuts, constantly sideways with very little effort, hence crashed
Ford Cortina Mk4 wagon-
Mazda Cosmo- 12a 6port?auto, sold it to young fellas for $400 I think
Honda Inspire- 5 cylinders of daily frustration, quickly traded on next car
Holden VN Commodore- owned for 7yrs and loved every minute but needed a 6 seater
Ford Falcon XD wagon- only issue was starter motor, sold it for $500
Mitzy Chariot- couldnt get timing right but it was still good runabout
Holden 1 tonner ute- 202/4spd floorchange, 15x8 modgies, sold it for $1500!
Mitzy Sigma, old faithful, wont get caught speeding lol but never let me down & still got it today
Hiace Supercustom- 2.4 diesel turbo, 8 seats, crashed into by some f@ckwit, swapped for next vehicle
Toyota Previa- 2.4 petrol/man, 8 seats, had a misfire but went like a rocket
Ford Falcon EF wagon- 9 seats, awesome roadtrip car, crashed into by some f@ckwit
Mitzy EX Lancer- 1600,5spd,
Mitzy FTO- 2.0V6, tiptronic
Valiant VG- 245 Hemi, 3spd manual, tridents, nuff said,
L200 3.8 V6- awesome brute, used daily
Might have missed a car or two but thats the bulk of it,
owned a few motorbikes in there also, had a couple Yamaha XS650's, XV750, Kawasaki GPZ550, Suzuki GS550, Honda CB250, 400V-twin

Just got mine back from a mate doing his XY, been sitting in his carport for a while.. Dont think I need them right now and I live round the corner in Woolston so if your still keen fire me a PM.

I like the patch welded over the air-vent idea, now where did I put my cut-off wheel & welder?
-
I think some of the L300 vans were 5spd column-change.

+1 for Autodec.
Got a set of carpet for my landcrab from them and they did a great job
Another vote for AutoDec here, just got my new carpet set for the Valiant and very happy with price and quality/service (though I did ask for info on a complete rubber seal kit for the Val and never got any reply so might have to go Rare Spares)?

Had my 9 seater Coon parked on the road outside my place and someone kindly slammed into it and wrote it off.
Its a sign, time to get the VG finished.

3m do 2 types of tape, decorating and automotive. the decorating stuff is very low tack designed not to pull cheap badly prepped wall paint off your house the automotive stuff costs even more and is designed to survive high temperatures and not leave glue everywhere and tbh is probably the best ive used
After using the tape over the weekend its not as bad as I first thought (though it typically doesnt want to stick at first) but it does the trick, I got a couple rolls left to use so not much choice til its gone.
Sprayed my ute with the 3M silver metallic which come out real good but from a distance the colour looks like grey primer instead haha. Maybe coz I havent put clear-coat on yet?
-
Bought the 3M masking tape and it seems real thin and not very sticky compared to other ones Ive tried so I wont be buying it .
What colour was the tape? The green stuff is designed not to be too sticky so it doesnt tear fresh paint or leave residue
Whitish colour. Its ok tape but I dont think its that cheap for what it is, theres better stuff out there for same price or cheaper.

Bought the 3M masking tape and it seems real thin and not very sticky compared to other ones Ive tried so I wont be buying it again.
Got a 4L tin of 3M hammer-finish spray paint for $60 and its actually good stuff though I still reckon you get what you pay for, if you buy cheap stuff dont moan if its not the best quality.

I got a 4G63 Sigma but unsure bout the DASH part. Spose there would be a sticker on the motor to say its a DASH engine?
-
Half-price new paint is a sweet deal alrite. Sorry cant help with all your questions but I was also wondering how many litres do you need to paint a med-large car (I know roughly how many spray cans it takes lol).
-
Would he do call outs so I dont have to tow my Sigma all the way to Belfast?
-
Ah ha, have seen that angle box around town, hard to miss those squared flares lol. What are you running in it?
-
Having the same issue with the EX I bought. It was factory 1200 4g11 but previous owner had fitted 1600 4g32 and not fitted a 4g32 crossmember so engine mount on passenger side doesnt line up. Im still waiting for someone on here to hook me up with a 4g32 crossmember.

Name: DEREK (Narsh)
Location: ChCh
Cars you own: '70 VG Valiant, '77 Hillman Avenger, '87 L200 3.8V6
Mods to them (can be brief or detailed): VG has 245 manual 3spd, mostly standard except for extractors and lowering/mags. Avenger is pretty standard except for the Turbos and L200 has a commodore motor/trans.

How you found out about oldschool:Met an OS member than did Internet search
Anything else you want to add: Grew up in the early '70s so love those cars the most, remember lots of falcons, holdens, valiants, vauxhalls, zephyrs etc. Have owned more old school cars than I can remember, (if only we knew then how much they'd be worth now eh). Im no boy racer/hoon, just into my old cars and into motorbikes too. -
You could try my old workplace(not sure if Im allowed to name them) but theyre at 650 Halswell Junction road, but not for much longer as theyre shifting site soon. They do sandblasting & powdercoating for reasonable price, though having said that we employees never had to pay for that kind of work, they were good like that.

not a vid sorry but some info on understanding oil grades and so on
Motor Oil Viscosity Grades:
http://www.driverste....co.uk/oils.htm
Halfway down this page they explain the additives in motor oil:
http://www.upmpg.com.../oil_bottle.htm
something I didint know about motor oil:"Phosphorus is the key component for valve train protection in an engine................. Next to lead, it's the second most destructive substance to shove through a catalytic converter. The US government mandated a 150,000 mile lifetime on catalytic converters and the quickest way to do that was to drop phosphorus levels and bugger the valvetrain problem. Literally".
