  1. Picture-less update cause my stupid SD card reader in my comp died....most like every other piece in my computer slowly breaking

Well first things first bought a few new treats for herl ike a ramflo filter (turns out doesn't really fit...so might just get a sidedraft carb or something maybe a pair of twins or even try fit this dellorto carb unless anyone wants to buy that and the filter probably just huck em up on trademe) also a set of wheel nuts...turns out they are for steelies so they don't fit onto my wheels...even tho I actually only needed one wheel nut.

Horn still needs to be attached should only take an hour or something to figure how to mount the thing

Change its oil and filter (people don't want me to do it here due to the fact i'll probably spill it all over their nice driveway)

sand down my bogging jobs around the car and probably respray it at some time (anyone know how much it costs to get a mini resprayed?)

Finish welding and cutting the part of rust that are half attended too which will need to be driven up to the brothers and get him to do it there so he doesn't have to lug it all down here on his truck of doom

Find a carb or airfilter that actually works and fits...and tune it up and watch her roar

Also fill the gas tank...rather empty least it will be less messy to clean out the fuel filters and de-attach the tank and give it a paint

All I can think of at the moment apart from some crummy cosmetic stuff and then hopefully take her in for a WOF either pass or see the large amount of stuff that fails...

    Till next time muchahos

  2. Well it's been a stupidly long amount of time since i've done really anything to it did have a few pics but turns out my computer decided to wipe all traces of them so thats fun... but here is some pics of some bits i have done and much much more to come since yay a job that I get money to sink into this project!

    photo0120c.jpg

The old gasket which is now replaced and running much better

    photo0122i.jpg

Cleaned up the inside of the mini ready to sand and repaint the interior with anti rust paint also make it looks more snazzy

    photo0125w.jpg

The carpet that was in it...rather shabby seen carpets from autodec but they are straight haired fluffy carpet. Anyone know where to get the original loop carpet type from?

    photo0148q.jpg

Painted the inside up looks better but is now covered by the carpet and seat anyway...but does make it easier to work on when its not hidious

    photo0149m.jpg

Then i went and sanded out the rusty bubbled areas of the panels which is actually only the front wings sanded them down...noticed some imperfections so recovered it and starting to sand it smooth ready for a primer coat

    photo0152d.jpg

    photo0153n.jpg

But in other news all brakes are now on but rather ran into a problem...might need to rekit the master cylinder or something due to the fact when i went to bleed it nothing came out for awhile then one single drip came from one valve...leaving the brake pedal to have no resistance at all and feels like its not even attached to anything

-Still need to attach my horn and get it working

-Strip boot repaint it all with the rust paint and clean out the tank and fuel pump filter

-fix the choke in place as the whole dash piece comes out when you touch it

-secure the throttle cable as it jsut falls out for no reason

    - and possibly much much more...but soon as the brakes are working and my new ramflo filter comes this week i'll drive it to the brothers and finish welding the amounts of holes around it maybe see if he has some stands i can take the subframe out in the rear as its looking rather....unloved and rusty

Untill I find a camera that doesn't wipe my photos and have money to put into it next week I bid you adue

(also been looking at turbos....maybe to much right now focus on getting it actually road legal first perhaps)

  3. I have those new one ended spring ones and i put them the same as you have there but my drum cover won't fit on...it goes on a bit but gets stuck and doesn't line up with the wheel nut threads any ideas whats wrong? it has the same shaped shoes as it had the last time and the cylinders are the same size

Also not much has been happening with the car recently started up the otherday rather loud and dirty might need a new airfilter box since the otherone doesn't actually fit on....few areas of rust have been cut out and welded which will have some pics up on the build when i get around to taking them off my camera

  4. Yeah the shoe sits loose in the grooves as i thought it might be either the springs or the wrong holes but from your pictures i'm pretty sure i had them right even adjusting the brakes it came up sitting loose. If you put the new springs in would you be able to show me a position of where they fit in the holes?

    Cheers

  5. Whats the cost of the wheel nut or set of nuts and the adjuster peg? and postage due to the fact money has been soaked up quickly by the mini :P

Also anyone got a pic of the front drum brakes with the single ended springs for it? Can't seem to figure how they fit on they seem super loose even tho they are the right cylinders...

  6. Wondering if anyone who else has a Mini has a set of wheel nuts or a couple they have spare I really only need 1 and also an adjuster peg for the rear drum brakes i'm missing one of those also or if anyone knows where you can find one because everyone I seem to ask about them have no idea what it is because it looks like the inner of a door lock..

Muchly appreciated if anyone has these parts just leave a post on here

    Cheerssss

  7. Well after 3-4 days of trying to get the exhaust heads off to replace the gasket...and much much wriggling of the whole exhaust system it finally got replaced!

Runs like a beaut bit loud tho....might not be so legal

Really only needs a new airfilter join so it actually runs smooth and probably an actual carb manifold that fits instead of having to eye it up and screw it on

Also finally got my grease gun so many nipples are to be lubricated!

    few things still to fix:

    -Wheel cylinders for the front

-New brake shoes (optional but most likely a good idea)

    -New oil filter & oil

-Buy a single wheel nut....it was missing one :s

    -Tune the engine

    -Weld rest of sill on

    -Weld the battery box hole

-Weld the front holes up and remove dent above grill

    -Possibly get a new muffler

-Cut and replace front bumper panel so it doesn't look like swiss cheese

-Fix lights so they work properly including all indicators

-Clean up steering column wires so Horn actually works

-Bare metal the right wing/front right panel then rust primer bog and paint

-Get a pot of paint made so I can actually paint the car

-Few cosmetic bits here and there

and most likely more to come as it starts driving on the road (and possibly breaking down)

But yay first stage pretty much complete, after its road legal slowly restore her back to an original state and looking smooth

Also might try get a video of it running with its current exhaust just to see how it goes

  8. well currently spent maybe 3-4 hours trying to get these exhaust ends off the engine so i can replace the exhaust gasket...but they don't seem to budge at all like they nearly come off but the middle one comes so far out then hits the engine bay.... anyway around this that's easy?

  9. Well I checked the prices of new brake shoes today pretty cheap bout 35 for 2 pairs so thats sweet still no idea on cylinders for the front tho hopefully not to much...

Went and bought 4 new sparkplugs for her today.....which was a well invested amount on $28

looked at the points gap and timing pretty much did it by eye and changed a few leads around and wallah SHE LIVES!!!! bit smokey from the ehaust gasket as in....a lot due to oil burning so will throw the one i bought for it the other day hopefully solve the problem

Least now all i need is a few cosmetic touch ups and front brakes and shes hopefully on the road once again!!

  10. Ah thanks for the spring images so they are right then. The guy had most of the brakes taken apart and in a box so I had to kind of guess by bad images on how to put them together.

As with the brake shoes there is some pad on them but I'll probably end up replacing them as a pair of them is very worn Tori is coming around after work so I'll let him have a squizat how I've put them together

Also today going to try my crazy homejob dizzy fix to see if I can get it started but cheers for all the help guys keep it coming :D

  11. In that servicing guide it has the other shoe upside down so it has the gap at the top I just assumed that's how it fit giving it even distributions of the shoe it makes sense in the picture and made sense when I was putting it together since it fitted the holes etc that way

  12. Well todays effort was somewhat... not very advancing turned out to be more of a scout mission

First of all i soaked the dizzy in some warm water and washing powder to get rid of the massive amounts of scum

    photo0115hm.jpg

Came out looking pretty nice instead of covered in black grease and dirt

then outside to jack the car up (brother kindly gave me a hydrolic jack.....why I no have one before?!)

started cleaning out the drum brakes and actually putting them back together properly but to my amazement I only have

two of the actual springs I'm suppose to use but I have these for the front ones i'm not quite sure if they do the same job

because they have different shaped hooks so I guess I'll have to go hunt some down from somewhere

One on the left are the ones I need and I have 4 of the right ones

    photo0113af.jpg

    Top of rear drum

    photo0108j.jpg

    Bottom of rear drum

    photo0109b.jpg

Also stupidly hard to find a diagram to even look at but at least the service manual I got was a decent help

(also its pages were practically brand new looking then i realized as I had black greasy hands I smeared them on the page...)

Also noticed one of the rear drum covers were rubbing...then spied myself a massive side difference and dent which i perused to bang out

    Dented Side

    photo0110yi.jpg

    Non dented side

    photo0111u.jpg

Also I'm not quite sure if that gap is suppose to be that huge compared to the other side

The new red Powermax rotor to the old original

    photo0114f.jpg

Powermax one looks a bit....roughly made

But one thing that was found and had a homejob done on it was seeing that the points were sitting on the dizzy plate and possibly earthing to that and losing power

so from the old set of points the plastic was broken cut to be flat and drilled a bit bigger then screwed to bridge a gap between them....this will hopefully sort the problem....hopefully!

    photo0116w.jpg

More of a noticeable side gap near my fingers

So apart from that I now have 1 rear working brake/handbrake and a hopefully functional clean distributor.

Also on my adventures of being in the wheel well I spied some surface rust which might need to be treated.

Next few days will consist of budgeting how much new front cylinders are (if they even have the right sizes) new springs if the others don't seem to do anytype of good

fixing the numberplate lights which I spied today fiddling with parts as I went around the car and maybe cleaning up the lights since they seem a bit weak...possibly bad connections, wires are fried or bulbs had enough and become knackered
