  1. So it's been awhile since I've done really anything too it apart from poking holes in rust spots to see how far the screw driver goes in.

Had it somewhat running and now theres no spark which kinda sucked since we had to push it up onto a trailer and well its not as easy when you are on a slight hill and there are bolts hitting the trailer so the car wont go up. Not to worry some random off cut bits of wood popped it up a bit.

Of to go get painted by my mate at the panel beaters so that will be the next update. Kinda stole the colour scheme off a couple race variants and also a video I found on youtube who happens to live 3hrs north of here.

Next I'll probably convert it to an electronic distributor since its much much less of a hassle and also fix the brakes.... which... didn't really work too well

  2. Bit of an update I guess

Basically tuned the car by ear... timing pretty much bang on but the piston in the carb is getting a bit stuck probably just some scum in there.

Runs reasonably ok but think its getting a bit of a hotspot maybe from the stuck carby and giving it a bit of engine run on. Also sounds like a loud tractor ripping it up the street.

Start of august I've sussed it to hopefully get painted. Gave the brakes some love so now I can stop also flushed what looked like fermented milk build up in all the coolant system because the tap water over here is not the best.

Crawled under the car had a look around. Rust wise pretty dang good bit of a whammy in the fuel tank tho.

Still haven't organised any of the boxes of stuff got a few extra badges etc if anyone is after any couple minx ones in there too.

Took the disgusting wing mounts off and noticed they never learnt to measure twice drill once and its not central on the boot lid itself... lucky I have a spare boot if I want to just swap it over.

Uncle over here is the local mechanic so he came and had a look he secretly loves it and said he'll sus hopefully the stuff that goes over my head.

Also finally got the plates in my name after searching back 20 years and two deceased estates. Thought it couldn't be done.

Heres some pics of my mess for now. Will try sort out a throttle linkage so I can have atleast twin SUs on it

  3. Moved it into the shed the other night, loud as almighty neighbours definately wont appreciate that. Also the clutch feel super spongey and grinds a bit so it came with another brand new clutch. Next weeks job I guess also give the brakes some juice.

Luckily I moved it in tho think the boot leaks a smidge and one of the passengers window seals are scuffed. Think we had a months worth of rain in one day or something.

Another update when i move stuff around give it a tune and what not after I finish my swing. Perks of a week on week off

  4. So only a minor update on it today

Weather was all over the show and I still haven't moved it into the shed. Took me far to long to remove the coil since my arms aren't long enough to reach both side but a couple bricks came in handy so thats removed and then messaging my brother for tips and help and after adjusting the points. Its now idling well not smooth but hey it goes when I turn the key now and stays on.

Just before the sky turned black with thunder clouds and poured down.

So here is a picture of my ducks which basically resemble the paint work on the car having a blast. Also yes I need to mow the lawns

  5. Could be the go, I'll look into some electronic dizzys. At the moment its a bit rough, uncle over here is a wiz with carbys and old motors so hopefully he can have a look even if he doesn't help just a decent list would be good.

Couod start working on the other engine at the same time the guy I got it off said they were both recond and have only done 30-40,000 km each

  6. So another couple days of trying to get it running well... this time I actually got it started ran kinda rough as hell but it went. Untill i played with it more now I've gone backwards.

Looking at a decent starter and maybe do away with the points.

Also found out the guy I got it off didn't transfer the private plates 20 years ago so I've had to track down 2 deceased estates to see if I can keep the plates or just bite the bullet and get gross new ones

Also gave it a bit of a clean looked like someone was hotboxing in it the windows were like tar sticky and so were the seats which are original I'm assuming no rips or tears so win. Basically meaningless cosmetic tidying so i didn't feel like i needed to shower by just looking at it.

One of my mates is the local panel and paint guy so I've had him look at it. Without doing a showroom fancy job on it thats about maybe 5-6k if im lucky.

Also heres a hose someone put on.... basically filled with cheese

Also the original brochures and ownership stuff from when the dealer got the vehicle which is kind of cool

Heres an idea forgot who has this one but its similar to how I wanted to do one of my escorts. Like a turquoise teal with white.

  7. Also the sweet sweet number plate HUNTER HE

So where all things start... seeing what doesnt work and what parts I have

Bloke seems to think it was something to do with the dizzy and points so I have like 4 new ones to try out from his stockpile

Also about 6-7 stromburg carbys aswell as being able to install two so who knows we will see how things pan out

My partner doesn't want to keep the engine bay art either... she thinks her parents might not approve

  8. So its been awhile still in WA australia and sold both my escorts, bought a house with a good sized shed thats empty... thought you know what goes in here well.

    Junk.

So I ended up getting this 1970 Hillman Hunter Royal HE of this guy up in perth thats had it for 20 years collecting bits and pieces but got cancer and needed it to move on to someone who will do it up.

Its a matt black spray can jobber someones slapped a wing on it for god knows what reason. Came with all new doors, front end, bonnet, boot lid, engine, transmission, and boxes full of unused and used parts aswell as badges lots and lots of badges so if people need parts and dont mind it coming from over here might be able to help

So here it is in all its glory and the amazing bit of engine bay art

    Heres the discussion

Forgot how to post and dont have a computer to bare with me

  9. It's sort of off the road currently, has a bucketful of rust floating through all the fuel lines etc and carby.

Yeah for now, theres an sr20det near Perth for about 1200 but ehhhh

The brown 4 door yeah all original apart from the parts that wee broken and I've replaced, I'll try get some photos

up tonight on it or start a new build thread for it and try get it up to date

  10. Yeah I was sad to see it go and I sold it for way to cheap :( but the guy I soldit too was from Scotland and had about 6 of them already and he wanted to do it up for a track car, so I knew it was in ok hands haha. The chassis was a bit... iffy on it tho, did however get the seized engine going with a lumpy cam etc, started looking at the body but, too much work... especially for not having a proper shed or abundance of tools anymore.

Mmmm anything I would have to replace for mounting the newer engines? like change the engine bay at all to fit?

  11. Alrighty, I will update this discussion and spin it to another one for the new escort and try catch up the progress that I've done on it and see.

Anyone know of easy ways or other engines I could install like an sr20det into the 4door, yet its automatic, or anything else I would need to upgrade for it such as brakes, suspension, mounts etc etc would be muchly appreciated

  12. So it's been an extremely long time since I've updated this or been on since my computer kept deciding to break itself all the time losing every picture and record of the car,

I ended up selling this one but not before buying another 1976 Ford Escort mk 4 door but auto which has two owners, once I get around to sorting out a new thread and learning to do everything on here again I'll make a new thread and build,

Looking at changing the original 1600 kent into a sr20det or if anyone has any new ideas or better styled engines to fit etc or any tips on what I would need to upgrade aswell to fit the new engine would be handy, pretty sure the build discussion is still open for this not sure

    BUT I'M BACK!

  13. Well it has been awhile since ive posted some updates done a bit... Or nas felt like i have done a bit...

Bought some new fittings for the waterpump sorted the hose out cut to length found out the heatercore has a bit of a leak in it so ill braise that up hopefully no more leaks in it otherwise it will be sent to a radiator plus to actually get some love and attention.

Fibreglassed some of te flooring up where there has been rust holes, cut my thumb amazingly good on the air filter.... Chicks dig scars right?

Tried to scrape all the old deadening and floor scum off didnt want to budge so i sprayed it with some decent paint stripper and then used a gasket scraper to do my floor.... Thats right.... The entire floor. Only up to the rear seat at the moment.

also found an amazingly hectic piece of rust which will suck a lot of nads to try fix without taking the engine or dash off.

Started painting the floor etc bit sticky still as my jeans found out.... Couple more coats then onto fixing maybe three to four leaks mostly the rear quarter windows so ill get around to finding maybe a new front window if its not to bad.

Things ive bought include pretty much a whole new set of capets hence the leak fixing.... Since its like a lake in there at the moment with this rain.

New sparkpluggies just to get rid of all the stale fuel that pretty much has gone past its use by date by a fair whack.

Once all the painting of the interior is done and ive fixed the firewall cavity and leaks are done ill get around to tuning cleaning sussing any problems with the engine, brakes, suspension and bushings and also four not so good tyres.... Then just cosmetic crap to make her look pretty again :-)

    Here are some pics enjoy!

    20120702161942.jpg

    1341292662931.jpg

Actually just the stuff i scraped from the drivers floorpan... Bags rather big at the moment

    20120710111219.jpg

All the photos i have at the moment will do te rest of thw floor and boot with rust and deadening then suss these leaks hopefully

Then get my carpet soon, hopefully heater done.

All the interior needs is doorcards roof lining and some recond seats and shes done and dusted for now.

Next is all the terrible paint bubbles that plauge the most common areas then start it up run it down to the workshop do the electrics and undercarridge.

    Thats all folks

    For now

  14. Well havent been doing much... Did get some of the heater out then realised if i keep going the plastic vents will probably crumble

So i semi put it back in left the centre console out looks a lot better and like fifty time more space.

So first off heres a photo of my hose.

    20120625130221.jpg

One that fits and had the right length happens to be an old holden commo one

Also a bit lengthier piece incase i well... Screw up.

Had to fit a new bit onto the waterpump which was bigger so i had to take it off again to fit the new one on... Which ended up me

Seeing lots of blood smeared everywhere. Turns out fingers bleed a hell of a lot.

Probing around after i nad the grille off looks like either someone has tried to fix some crash damage with a poo fix or they havent at all

Also heres a dog who likes to sit right behind you so you trip every single time.

    20120625100139.jpg

    20120625100158.jpg

    20120625100144.jpg

Also heard snoring and went to investigate hes sprawled across the two front seats just making himself at home.

So ended up masking the grille up to paint it, didnt have any silver on me and couldnt be bothered walking back into town i thought id do the black first... Thinking about it now... Just made doing that a hell of a lot harder for myself.

Thinking of doing silver rings around the lights but not sure yet. Thoughts?

    20120625130159.jpg

    20120625142032.jpg

To be honest... Doesnt really seem like much changed... With the silver hopefully look better. Also the centre clips were chrome some stage... Silver paint them for now chromedip them later when i get enough stuff to be worth getting heaps done at one time.

Apart from painting, bleeding, hosing and pretty much sneezing, couging and snivelling not much has been done... Still waiting for my battery to take it down so it can be stripped apart properly and maybe a decent job of painting it etc

Probably repaint the silver bits tomorrow if its fine or cut the hose to proper length and fit that up. Hopefully the heater core doesnt leak!

Sussing carpets, head lining, door cards etc so maybe will look a bit better anywho. Also find new front seats or get them redone with matching door cards but in black.

    Cheers big ears

  15. Starting to dismantle the dash try get this heater running.... First mistake.... Upside down under dash and spiders fall on your face...

took the centre consol out kinda looks semi better with a lot more room! Probably go back in once i suss out new carpets etc etc

Back window still leaking maybe worse than before, will have to go buy some sealer to fil the gaps in the rubber for now or just redo the entire rubbers on it as the front has a small leak aswell

Been posting up for those wheels on various sites.... No one seems to know the name... So thats cool...

Also since there is no pictures yet this will have to suffice nothing like a cheeky wink at around 56seconds

  16. Well I went and sussed some paints and sandpapers out along with some hosing.

150 later and i got a nice wee pile of stuff to use.... To bad its forcast to be raining for the rest of the week...

    20120618113138.jpg

What else have i done... Oh fitted the new waterpump and had a fiddle with it hose didnt fit... But then saw the poo 30+year old clip and replaced it now it holds jt properly on tnere but might get a hose slimmer just to make it a bit easier

    20120616100324.jpg

    Oooo shineyyy

    20120617121952.jpg

Nice and snug... To bad the rest of the engine bay is covered in dirt etc

    20120618113816.jpg

Who doesnt like a bootfull of spares? Also got another wheel and the base of a back seat...in rough condition

Thought id try this fibreglass bog putty stuff instead of welding in some metal seems to be ok on the nonstructual stuff

Heres my poo first coat attempt on it coveres the small holes nicely bit of a hassle on decent sized holes tho have to put something down to have it sit across otherwise do small bits at a time, dunno if using something like a bit of pinned down gladwrap will screw it up in anyway. Will get sanded off when its hardened.

    20120618154758.jpg

Also anyone know what kind of wheels these are I know they are cheviot ones but I cant seem to find them anywhere

If anyone has a spare one in a 13 id be more than happy to purchase it as i only need one to complete my set...

Anywho have it a halfdone wipe down might need to take them in get resurfaced a little come up looking good hopefully even more so with my brakes painted instead of rusty... And bald flat tyres

    20120618153402.jpg

All for now hopefully take the tank out, sand the boot down and clean it up for a good spray. Same with the car floor strip it out on the next sunny day wirebrush the crap out of it.

In other news duct taped my ripped roof lining... Its looking somehow now more hobo then it did before

Any info on the wheels throw it into the discussion be awesome.

    Cheers

  17. But the whole car is bumpy like it has goosebumps i feel like someones done it on purpose. Anywho will be destroyed off and probably redone and some stage... Migt keep it red and black its grown on me.

Got some stuff to respray the grill and all the black trim, along with sound deadener spray and some underseal boot will hopefully be redone soon and then paint up and grind the poo welds on the towbar. Migt make it huge and put a singke spotlight on the back to blind following vehicles.

  18. Well apparently no one knows what type or the name of the rims I have. I know they are chevoits but the searches ive done come up saying they are rare blah blah anyone know where you can find these? Or if someone has a spare one they want to sell me would be o for awesome.

Also noticed the rubbish paintjob someone has done its somewhat orange peeling so it has bumps all over it, either that or its there to grip at the air.

Only way to fix this would be assuming a respray?

But yeah if anyone knows if some of these rims are around would be good

    Cheers
