  1. Hey thanks for that, just a few days too late for me as I already bought one, I got a 3.5 ratio out of a 90's XLT Courier, the B1600 housing wasn't notched quite right but that was no biggie and I had to swap the driveshaft flanges over but other than that it went in ok.

  2. Hey guys,

I have a 1981 B1600 with a 4.8 ratio diff in it and it needs to be changed, from what I understand you can fit Ford Courier, B2000 and B2600 heads into the housing but is there any particular year or model that I need to be looking for?

What I want ideally is a 4.1 lsd head

    Cheers

  3. Hey Pete, cheers yeah I heard that the video of my car was doing the rounds. Pretty cheeky that someone would find it and post it up there but that's the Internet for you, I turned up at work and was told about it yesterday. It is a really shit video but from looking at the comments people seem to like it.

As for the escort front end that is all useful stuff so thanks for that, I am surprised to hear about how the bottom arms sit as the mount point on the crossmember is higher than the anglia one so I guess that must be all in the position of the stub axle relative to the ball joint. I will hopefully get the crossmember in this week some time then will get a better look. I guess that was why you notched the chassis rails on yours right?

  4. So with my other car in the final stages of certification and finding that I don't have a lot to do on it I started thinking about getting another project, I mean I have to have something to tinker with right?

I was wanting to get a ute and was really keen on either a Datsun 1200 or early Mazda one and I looked at a couple of projects but the problem was that they are starting to get expensive even for something that needs a lot of work, plus to be honest the other car ended up costing me a fair bit so forking out more dollars for another project just wasn't really an option. This combined with my wife telling me that the other Anglia might as well be a motorbike given that it only has 2 seats and is loud and not the most pleasant of vehicles to cruise in or generally be in etc etc. got me thinking that a better choice would be something with more seats and more of a cruiser. So what I do have is a spare Anglia body and a buttload of parts both left over from the other build along with other parts that I have bought along the way just because they were cheap and I thought that they could be useful one day.

The good thing about the body shell is that it has live reg and while there are a few rust holes in it it is essentially pretty straight, I thought about selling it as the plates and tags would be worth something but as I have already started chopping it up to fit the rotary the shell probably isn't, but it is far to good to throw away so with that said the decision was made.
So what to do with a body shell that has already been chopped? Well the logical choice is to chop it more and fit something bigger in there.

So amongst the acquired parts I had this

    Rover%20V8%20and%20Gearbox_zpsem5ub8gd.j

3.9L Rover V8 out of a Discovery, pretty much complete except for the alternator and some parts out of the distributor – incidentally if anyone has any of these bits then hit me up as I need them!
And thanks to a helpful Oldschool member I also have this

    Auto%20Trans_zpsea5auhng.jpg

Auto trans from a SD1, maybe not so much of a performance trans but for what I want it should do the trick. The motor was auto so I also figure this will be the cheapest way to get it moving.

So here is the car and yes that is a big hole in the guard but I have already repaired the steel underneath it so it looks worse that it is

    Anglias_zps3cy23eoj.jpg

    And from the other side

    Bodyshell%201_zps5kxxjlw1.jpg

    Empty%20Engine%20Bay_zpszps40x06.jpg

Engine bay is empty but kind of small, still the grinder can fix that easy enough, that steering box is going to be an issue, luckily I have this

    Escort%20Suspension_zpsfqafscrs.jpg

Mk2 escort front suspension, I have read heaps about how this isn’t the best to use but I can’t see why not, I mean look at how close it is to fitting.

    Escort%20Crossmember%20In_zpsbs2bmtpy.jp

    Escort%20Crossmember%20Detail_zps4wtmgor

As I see it all I need to do is remake the mounts to sit the crossmember in the right position relative to the strut tops to ensure the castor is right then make some new sway bar mounts for the front, seems easy enough to me, looking at the front track dimensions between an escort and an Anglia they are only 89mm different so only 44.5mm per side which isn’t much really. This is also something that I have wanted to do for ages and even thought about scrapping the mk2 Cortina setup in the other car and going this way so should be interesting.

So that is the plan, first get the front suspension in (probably without springs for now) then get the motor and trans bolted up, drop it in the hole, cut and weld as required and see where it leads. I am also thinking of doing a 4 link in the rear (also something I was thinking of for the other car) to get it sitting nice and low but that will come later.

Oh yeah and I got a set of these really cheap so they will more than likely go on it.

  5. Ha ha no unfortunately neither Gavin or Barry can do it as they can't do some of the mods on the car so i have been talking to Marty Jones who comes down to Nelson from Palmeston North and hopefully he can sort it for me. Otherwise I will have to take it to Christchurch.

Either way I will get it sorted

  6. Hey Kelvin, yep getting really close now. Spoke with the certifier last week and will start the process in the next week or so. The bump steer test is one of the first things happening so will know shortly if they are are all good.

  7. Hey guys, I am having some issues with my wiper motor wiring, it was working before I changed the engine and now it isn't. I am guessing it is something really simple that I am overlooking.....

Anyway there are 5 wires coming out of the motor, 2 greens that were connected to +12v a white and black one that goes to a switch and then to earth and then there is a red one and a black one that I don't know were ever connected. So my thinking is that the red could be a 2nd speed and the black an earth but so far I haven't had any luck making it go.

So the problem is I don't know if the motor has died or if it is just a wiring issue (I am thinking wiring is the most likely).

Any ideas? Or is there someone with an anglia who could look at the wiring and see if the red and black wires are supposed to be connected to anything?

    Cheers

    Matt

  8. Yeah it's a pretty good feeling now that it's running especially after talking so long to get to this point. Pretty glad I stuck with it as there were a few times that I thought about selling it. Anyway the next step is to get it on the road but my motivation is pretty high now to get it done

  9. Ha ha nah I didn't drive it, it was hemorrhaging oil and none of the gauges were working so I managed enough restraint to push it back in the garage and wait till i get those things sorted. I will put up a video of I can figure out how rotate it, stupid phone keeps rotating it to the side.

    Sounds pretty good though
