  1. Spotted what I think to be that same Skyline outside the Britomart Country Club tonight.

And holy crap my pants moment. Met the most amazingly down-to-earth guy tonight, owner of a BMW 2002 TII, in as original and perfect as they come.

    Pics to come.

  2. Couldn't tell from across the road, but a MINT red R30 or R31, including what looked to be original rims on Hobson St allday today.

    Might have been orions one.

No chance, would have been slobbering all over it if it were. Was an R31 4door saloon.

  3. Not sure about the fuel pump, but for batts, I just buy a decent juicey new one. Those starter motors on the older cars need a bit of umph to get them going.

You say the fuel light is on, is the needle down low too I take it?

    Not a tanker sender issue?

Edit: is that car the one in your sig? if it is, keep it and get crackin'! no idea what sort of car it is, but it looks mean :)

Best tip I was given when I started playing with old cars is this; Make a list of stuff that needs to be done, and break it down to the smallest component. Even if it's just something like "Polish dail surrounds" etc. That way even if you're busy or having a crap day you can do it and feel like you've achieved something.

Feeling like it's going nowhere is what makes most people give up.

I started such a list and posted it up somewhere in the house, after CXGPWR that absolute beauty had a look about the car at his workplace. That sunshine last friday was the inspiration I needed to get out there and finally touch it. Literally was going nowhere it first died at a gas station, and mates who live 5min away hadnt shown up after 40minutes, but luckily a complete stranger had a battery jumper [not just leads, but the whole shabang] in his camry and saved me. Cheers mate.

the car's been sitting with a 90% full tank of 95 [the expensive stuff :( ] since i parked it.

    Its probably 91 by now.

Buy a new Varta/Exide and never look back. But get one from a shop with decent turnover. Not one from the servo thats been sitting 10 years. Id rather pay a little more and get something new thats likely to last another 5 years than jew out on a slightly cheaper one.

will definitely do, and next time i leave it over summer will definitely disconnect & store the battery better. Is buying from ripco or supercunts auto off-the-shelf a bad idea? Or a proper battery place like Marshalls or Brouder?

Jewing wins most days, but definitely not after this lesson.

My brother's old S130 had a charging problem too, I believe it's alternator related though can't recall exactly what, probably just the VR which should be internal in the S130.

Should be no more than a couple of hundred bucks to get fixed at a place or even less if you get another alt/do it yourself.

thanks, that'll be the first thing to get some well-needed attention :D most zx alternators seem to have been salvaged for swaps to earlier zeds, so finding one might be hard. Read through the interwebs that most people don't place faith in rebuilt alternators and have just gone for brand new replacements :(
