In love with my new wheels! Car sits nice and low and doesnt look jacked up or like a dub edition car like rx7s tend too on big rims
-
Does it space out the pulley or the pump?
Did you not get one with your set?
Spaces out the pully and didnt get one with my set as got my set cheap but souced one from a freind who didnt need it on there rotary so belts all lined up nice as now
-
Does anyone have a water pump spacer (comes with gillys when you buy a set) lying around to sell me cheap?
-
Not a criticism as I totally believe it's your car and do whatever pleases you.
But I'm not digging the gilmores, that's not a tasteful modification to such a tidy, original car.
I think you should leave the engine bay as it left the factory, that's the hardest thing to find about older cars these days...
I admit I almost feel bad about fitting the glimers but Im not planning on getting rid of this car and personally I like them - I do have all the original pullys thou as if I ever do sell it I will put it back to full original (I even have the origianl spark plug leads)
-
ok its definately aftermarket then
but hoooooooold on. you've removed the factory fan set up and now you have no fan to draw air through the radiator??.. or am I missing something?
Mounting fan infront of radiator so its not visable engine side looking at thermo fan setups at the mo as also planning on getting a nicer radiator and a front mount oil cooler
-
No mounting points for seatbelts just the sweet standy clarion speakers

Lovely little car mate, on the topic of Nationals I'll be going into planning mode for the 4&R Nationals in Auckland in the next couple of months and this is potentially one car I'd like to have on display along with a certain other Series 3 RX7 on here...
Could be interested as a few poeple have mentioned it could be nice to see a stock un modded one there and I have always enjoyed going to the nats as a spectator
-
Yeah I might just save the hassle and install some new lap belts before I take her through - I have the original Number plates for the car so will be keeping them in case I display it somewere like the nationals.
-
Are you supposed to install rear belts if your car never had them now?
Im wondering this as well, My car has the slots in the rear seats for the belts to go throu I havnt yet removed the seat to see if bolt holes are there for it - Might go look now.....
-
Looks really nice mate!
Peter, right? I remember you from high school! That was a few years ago now.
Yep thats me - who might you be Mr Sparkle your thread doesnt give away alot!
-
Nice score, good luck with it!
will be very interested to see how you get on with installing/certing the rear seatbelts. kinda wish I hadn't converted my Series 3 to two-seater, but at the end of the day it was the only route to getting it properly legal
I dont like the spoiler thou I think they are called spoilers for a reason, they spoil cars....If you don't want it, I'll happily take it off your hands...
I'm in the same boat with regards to modifications - minimal, tasteful, and easily reversible if required. I keep bumping into more and more people who prefer standard Rx-7s over heavily modified ones, and with good reason if you consider how rare they are becoming.
Yeah i looked at rear seat and there are no seatbelts installed and doesnt look like there ever has been.... Will let VTNZ tell me if I have to install lap belts or something, As for spoiler even if i remove it ill prob just use those rubber bung things so i could put it back on it is growing on me thou, but it is also ugly Lol

looks tidy as for 110,000 miles. fix whatever it is thats making the left rear wheel look funny and leave the rest alone. or else
you might want to strip the whole underside to inspect for rust, theres a series 2 on retro rides and it was all rusted around the trailing arm mounts, wheel well, floors etc.
The whole underneath has just been sandblasted and rust protected ready for inspection, I havnt noticed anything with left rear wheel either, Drives perfectly stright and no noises or creaks.... Will investagate further thou...
-
do tasteful mods and keep all standard bits in a safe place??what i would be doing if it was mine anyway
I def will be keeping any mods easily put back to standard
-
awesome car man, are you planning to do any modifications once you sort the rust out?
Im real 50/50 on this - Id love to lower it a bit and maybe put some nice wheels etc on it Bridgeport etc BUT I think that a car is only original once! So Im going to TRY my best to just tidy it more and more and keep it original - I dont like the spoiler thou I think they are called spoilers for a reason, they spoil cars.... But again its orig.... what to do!!!
-
Looks great man, looked at buying it myself How bad is the rust? The guy selling it seemed very sketchy about it.
Its actually not too bad, None at all in panels its just on the underside from them salting the roads in england 2 spots on underside near trailing arms and one spot near the steering knuckle on passenger side (which I think is the worst one) will post pics up of before and after once I choose a suitable repairer

On the ground ready to clean up loom and get ready to dummy mount into car once gbox is sussed
-
Going 4agze now
-
So after alot of thought about what I want from the car (which is daily driver that can drive to a race track/motorsport event, thrash it and then drive home again) have decided to do the 4agze supercharged conversion. Have owned alot of rotarys over the years but never managed to hook 5th gear burnouts with ease like my last 4agze starlet
So brought this with a worn clutch (no biggie replace with heavy duty) and slightly buggered 1st gear (not gonna use fwd gbox so sweet as!)
Which has this in full stock standy form
So ill label all the plugs pull the engine and the full loom and sell/scrap the rest of the car for funds towards t50 gbox - Already have a 14psi boost pully for it so should be ace in the light starlet, Now to pull it all out!
-
Your dedication to convert to a us type 2 seater is inspiring - Great to see youf dedicated to keeping it orig as possible, reminds me of my rx7 i left in oz hard to find a stock unmoded rx7 in NZ! keep up the good work!
-
Oh sweet, you got it! Let me know if you need a hand finding any bits man. There was a hilux diff set up for a starlet for sale a while ago... Wonder if anyone ended up buying it. Either that or an F series would be strong enough for either engine.
No matter what engine i get im keen to get hilux lsd setup - Im cheap thou ill almost wait until one pops up on trades rather than paying out heaps getting it done myself
-
Ha have you got the MAZLYF number plate now? also cool starlet
I DID have that plate but sold it when I went to ozzy seen a few cool plates on trades but want to get the running gear first - then the mags sorted
-
Sweet N13 A-framing action.
The sentra was in struggle town up some of the hills especially out of Piha but the 1.3 Litre pulled the light starlet sweet as!
-
Must have been in it for the noise.
The bottom has fallen out of the rotary market so a fair few "fresh rebuild bought for a project" motors going cheaper than they should.
I think NZ has HIGH mazda tax it seems if its rotary Nzers want the world for it - In ozzy Rotarys and old mazdas are just that, another old car and as such ya can get them alot cheaper (man i miss ozzy ) But your right the rotary market is settleing down and becoming alot more reasonable
Petes Rx7 series 3

There would be no point putting up a build thread if i didnt intend to modify in some way to suit what im after from the car - All mods I have done can be reversed anytime to put it back to full original - There will be no camo near this car but maybe getting 13bt 300hp upgrade
