I heard that they are a complete un bolt and bolt in affair :s
-
Hi there, looking at getting an LSD in my Hillman Hunter. Woohooo. Now I have heard from the previous owner that mark1 escort dif set-ups fit right in and he was planning on doing it before he sold it to me.
Now, I was wondering if a different diff housing would just bolt up? Or should I look for a Hilux diff shortened? I an no good at welding (haha) but these premade diffs look very very expensive...... Around $700 - 800 dollars. So if there is a possibility of another fitting then I would be stoked
-
Haha, yea Chaser
Maybe that's why he wanted to get rid of it? Ma mate just got some BC Golds stuck in, certed, but then took to WOF today, and the welds had completely failed and separated the wheel from the shock :s We took those photos of it last night.
If it's the guy across from pink bats, then it's def a GX81 Chaser
Do they do some work on cars? They had a few when we went there...
-
That's the house where me and my mate picked it up i think. Of an asian guy who lives there? Thats the house across the motorway from the pinkbats factory and they have that big grass circle place? One of the guys has a Lexus and the asian guy has an altezza?
-
OMG that is sooooo cute!
-
Nah man, further up in your log, where u said when the second turbo came on it was awesome? In the background on the right, chaser and on the right another white car on stands?
-
Hey Ryan, was looking through your build thread, and saw a pic of a GX81 Chaser in the back ground of one of the pictures?
Was it this one?
The one with the rediculously large exhaust?

I'll look into that, try and find one when the time comes. Dylan said he could mod what I have now which fits perfectly in there. it's not really the width but the height. It's about 8 inches high. But about 20 long.
And hellraizer, that intercooler looks sooo fugly. Because the cooler is at the front of the car, really visible, I kinda wanna keep it nice... :s
-
Yea, it's been mentioned before. We can't find an intercooler small enough with inlet and outlet same side, so we are going to mod the current VR4 one in there. That is most likely the first performance orientated upgrade along with intake/filter piping after the warrant.
-
Rad, Yea the guy there Dylan does alot of mobile installs and only just moved in too, so the sign went up on like Saturday. You work at the place that Mr Whippy goes in all the time or the place next to that? I was kinda sketchin that you be running out and chase me down the road for taking some sneaky photos
-
Haha, Working on my own car! We are next to the Asian workshop that does Warrants. At Car Tech security and installation. Spied you on Monday, but didn't have a camera on me, Haha. Didn't even notice the 2j was even there, had a double take when I was driving past on Monday.
-
I'll see how it goes filling up the radiator tomorrow as I had to run out before I had a chance. Kinda over spending money on this thing, just wanna get a warrant and go from making life easier/improving from there. hahaha. Good idea though.

Mmmmmmmmmm........
wut?
FOUND YOU!!!!!!

Okay, soooo maybe these pictures won't make up for previous pictureless updates but I did get some until the camera ran outa room
Sump was off so took some photos!
NO SUMP!
DIRTY great big sump put back on:
See the top pipe in blue? The temp gauge sender s on the side to clear the bonnet, how ever, you can turn it so it is vertical to fill up Meaning n o more bubbles up there YAY!!!
Was going to get in and take a video of it driving and to see if any more leaks appear, but ran outta time as I had to get to a band practice O well, next day is Thursday as Dylan isn't free tomorrow.
Yay, I want a warrant this weekend!!!!

Hey, Looking at my engine mounts in my hunter compared to one with a stock engine, it looks like it was relatively simple to stick in another 4 banger. The 2tgeu (same mounts as a 4age I think) mounts really nicely in.
-
Yay, another pictureless update, keep forgetting to take my camera and since my phone was stolen I can't even supply low quality goodness.
Anyway, today was a good day:
Wired up the water temp gauge properly, then took for a quick test spin after I had fixed a little oil leak (Thread tape ftw!) ANd IT DIDN't OVERHEAT! I am soo happy, No water overheating, everything worked, took it for a kane, and everything looks good, Charger is boosting BOV it blowing. YAY!
Get back and oil is leaking like a mofo! Argh..... Took out the intercooler, intake piping, radiator so I can attack the problems. Sump is off, cleaned and ready to go back after I take of the front cover and do the main front seal. Cam chain ftw, don't have to much about with marking shit and worry about timing.
So tomorrow I AM TAKING MY CAMERA! And will get sum pics, and get it back together with no leaks please and take for another spin. THen onto lights and warrent, found all the light plugs, so shouldn't be too long before she's legal

Leave a dehumidifier overnight in the car for a couple of nights, then your sweet for a week or two... Unless your car leaks.
-
Yea, I though of jacking the car up so the radiator was highest when filling, but now it's seems fine Gotta fix one little leak from the radiator bung with some thread tape and then take it for a drive and watch the water temp meter very closely. hahaha, atleast radiator and blower is working now.
-
So wait, did I fix it? Just checking haha as I might be taking it out for a drive now that the charger and radiator fan is hooked up. I also bled it so that it was full.
-
I understand what you are saying. But, That is the full point now. Once filled, screw in the water temp sensor. I don't understand as it is now the filling point? It is sealed at the radiator cap... If you saying there is always air in the system then how does it matter if the fill is the highest point? If it was flat, then the pipe of the block would be the highest... Even worse!
-
Pictureless update! YAY... I keep forgetting to take my camera out.....
Radiator fan is fixed and wired in.
Supercharger is now wired up, car runs alot nicer now, starts up first go etc etc. Sounded freakin mean. But then ran outta time... So fixing on the ground for the temp sender then take for a test drive to see how hot it gets. YAY, it's coming along.
-
Just fixed my fan, had no positive 12 volts and was a bit bent so it wouldn't turn. Fixed that and installed it. Works minta! Really didn't realise It stuck out that much air!!!
-
I stuck a bolt and nut on it, welded it on it, for the sensor of the new water gauge, also means I can fill it up from there, so yes, top pipe is now the new fill (or top up to be full) inlet. yay.
When I get out there next I'm checking the radiator fan/replacing it.

Great information there CaMpylobacter, So I shall invest in an electric fan. Haven't even taken the car up over 50km/h yet (Well maybe, no speedo). Just didn't realise they were so key to cooling. But now I think of it, it really is. Electric is king for me :0, CaMpylobacter, can you give a link to these rear engines bus fans? Did a quick search but found nothing helpful.
EDIT: Oh an no trolls, just curious. Also answered my next question of mechanical over electric haha.

Okay, so ran out of time a little bit on this as school holidays are over, so I cannot work on it anymore as final exams are coming up and they matter just a little bit more....
Took it for a warrant:
1. Loose front right wheel bearing
2. No lights what so ever.....
3. Ignition barrel not secure ( was down by the clutch)
So Dylan has had the go ahead to wire the bitch up with lighting and fix the oil leak that I screwed up doing :s... Was my first time and it didn't work...
Engine is alot cleaner now and all ignition stuff is mounted. Ignition barrel is wired up better and starter motor will be wired in soon.
Cheers, Tom
