^ Agreed.
Also, as I've just found out recently, certs are a piece of piss if you aren't an absolute rough bastard.
-
I got told that if your car hasn't been for a WOF for a certain amount of time (can't remember how long) then they will do a WOF style check over the entire car while doing your cert. I'm not sure if this is a yarn or not but I wasn't really worried as you have to go for a WOF eventually anyway.

I knew a guy at uni in Waikato who had a corolla like this. Not sure of the rego though but would be interesting to know if it was the same one.

My bet is that its just giving the cert guys some teeth to stop the rediculous stretch that some people are running and trying to get certified.
Are there really that many people running silly stretch on the streets? I wouldn't really know as I don't see it with taupo being small, only what I see people posting on forums but most of them aren't being silly about it. I guess auckland/hamilton/chch with lots of boyracers maybe there are alot of people being stupid?
I agree, I don't think I've seen any cars running insane stretch on the road, and I'm in Hamilton fairly often... Maybe I'm just not in the right place at the right time

Fair enough, although couldn't you have taken the colour from a place on the car that doesn't see the sun? Like the inside of the petrol filler flap or something?
Congrats on getting a colour sorted though, it can be quite a hard decision.
-
This is probably a retarded question but....why not paint it the original red colour? (or as close as you can get from a colour chart)
Would suit the car to have an 80's colour on it.
Along the lines of what Mikuni said, cars like this usually look better with simple, clean paint jobs.

Having seen this in the flesh I can definitely say that it is pretty goddamn tidy
these are such sweet/ugly/awesome cars+1

Also, not meaning to discourage you but it is worth considering whether you want your job to be exactly the same as your hobby/passion. It does depend on yourself, but people can get disillusioned when something that was done for enjoyment just becomes "work".
+1 to this as well.
Haven't done any "car" courses (although got a Mech Eng degree at uni) and have learnt everything I know about cars just from working on them. If you just get started doing stuff to cars it doesn't take long to get the hang of most things.
I'm pretty glad that my actual job has nothing to do with cars so I still feel like working on them a little bit when I get home.
Then again, since I've never been on a car-type course I guess I'm a little biased
