I've had my 540 (e39) for 5 + years it goes bloody well spent less than $1500 on it in that time apart from tyres battery oil changes... get a bad one and you can have lots of issues.

These measurements are of a m62 B44 block (4.4lt) and are approximate (in inches)
Width across the V 28
Length of block including front of sump that sticks out further than the block 27
Height from sump to top of V 26 (this doesnt include the inlet manifold that protrudes the V as it doesn't have one fitted)
I could do a more detailed measure and include pics if that helps Its currently surrounded with usual garage junk so hence the approximate warning
You could say its virtually a 28" cube.
Hope this helps,
Compare, it seems similar size to me a touch wider but a huge weight saving.

Buy a complete 740 for $1500 ish auto box diff and every other bits thjat you need and some cash back for the parts you could sell on.
And they are good for 400k +
Mine sounds nice.
Very enjoyable V8 and has no hassle getting up on the red line if you care to keep the foot down.

I had thought of the excavator slew just the cost and depth puts me off. I'm not sure the idea of wheels not touching works that well. From what i understand the efficiency would be down to friction drawn by the bearing /kg over load a bearing and it becomes a negative. I think the weight of the car will make it drag more at each end and the sides will have minimal load anyway.
Keep the ideas coming, My mind is fizzing trying to get this right before i build it.

There is 3 issues with the dolly/skate idea
The wife is the main issue. I could get the car turned around she would not and I'd get the couch
The dollies would allow the shed in easy build area but take 10 min to park or remove.
Use of the above is not controlled and with bugger all space I see car and house meeting.
4th issue is build shed and try sell house with a garage you can't drive too seems a negative. Needs to be sorted if I sell the house.
As for above I've decided a 40mm bearing as a wheel dyna bolted to concrete not turntable as this will eliminate shit getting under castor's. Also steel on steel reduces friction. Hub bolted to concrete to centralize
I believe I can make the whole thing no more than 65mm off the ground so an above ground build seems probable.

Yeah pretty much the plan. I was quoted $25k for one . I'd like to think I can do it for $1500-2500. I 'm happy to push it around. but I think I'll make allowance for drive. We have a lot of the required stuff at work I'll see what I can pillage. I hadn't though of a trailer hub thats a easy fix.

I have 2 very sweet workshops at my disposal. We make mobile shelving systems. And the father inlaw is an aircraft engineer. has a hanger sized shop and plenty of gear. I'd be interested in a rotary sheds set up provided it was not too much work to make it work. I find its almost easier at times to build from new than remodel.
Was thinking I could steal a merry go round.
I'd be keen to have a look next time I come through. Which is likely Wednesday week. or a day earlier.

Wanganui based. Have no shed yet. Have shed at other property that I'd like to sell at some point.
It is simple and the concrete no hassle as I want it on an angle meaning I will build most of it above ground.
My thought is I can keep it about 75mm high max. No plan to make big holes.

So I have a hassle that unless I spend mega $$$ excavating the section I can't fit a garage, So I have decided a carousel so I can turn around a car in a 6m radius allowing a garage at the back of the house.
I am thinking if I put it on a slight slope the engine weight will cause it to point down hill,eg the direction of exit.
Has anyone here had any experience building one , Or maybe needs one .could be cheaper to build two at a time.
something like these
Thought and ideas appreciated

When I was about 10 my old man had an argument with state after being a customer all his adult life. I remember him getting of a heated ph exchange and blasting out the drive in the cortina and coming home proudly holding policies from a new insurer.
The fact that state will not return a car they took to asses means you can go to the police and file the car stolen. The assessment has been complete they do need to return the car. Next stop get it reported stolen. (make sure you file as take for assessment refusing to return.)
Yes you should go to their office and talk to them first but you may need to decline their offer formally. This will mean they will need to pursue the driver yourself.
be mindful that it will cost you.
Also when you meet them take a few references of vehicle prices, The purchase price you paid with receipts of the work you've done.
Add the value remaining on the rego and they may see the sense and up their price.
Have you talked to your insurance company ????? They should help you out. at least with the channels best to take.
Now thinking of this makes me hopping mad. Feel like knee capping the f#$$&**

Remember that as long as you own the car YOU can de reg it before they take ownership. Claim the point SOLD de reg not safe for use. Until they own it they are not entitled to have it have it returned as they took it for assessing and assessing is now complete. It is possible to make their life miserable. The costs of processing are theirs not yours.

I too have missed his thread for reasons of stupidity. My dream of going to the eastern block has been re-ignited except the spoils have changed. I now won't need a divorce first

Have a rodeo with the same engine at work. It sucks gas downfaster than my V8 bimmer. I took it empty from wanganui to auckland and got over top of bombays and had to refuel. I how ever like the engine and the sound is nice. I've always though this would be the ultimate repower for a bellet.
