  1. Is it normal to primer the entire car when painting? I've always been under the assumption this was the case as a uniform base was needed before colour was applied, but when I mentioned this to a friend of mine who works at a panel shop he laughed it off.

After doing some searching it apparently is standard to only primer over repairs needing filler, and just sand back the rest. Is this the proper method or just the cheap and easy method for shops doing insurance jobs?

  2. I was looking at the trademe auction on the weekend, was actually thinking of getting it. Probably best you beat me to it, I've got enough WIP's as it is haha.

Love the black interior. Was does it need done to get running?

  3. The car was a sitter for 3 years so I'm not surprised it's jammed wide open, and when I flushed the system there was only water in it, no coolent.

have you got a trolley jack handle.??

stick that on it and give it a tap downwards...

Don't know if I've have room for that (or a block of wood that Simon mentioned) but thinking along those lines using an old long ratchet extension with a hammer. Coming out one way or the other lol.

  4. Mines doing the complete opposite, it's way undercooling. The gauge will sit and stay on cold with the exception of when the car is running but not moving (eg traffic). It use to sit around 1/4 but since removing the AC radiator and thus freeing up more airflow for the main radiator the gauge hardly moves now. I believe everything else in the cooling system is fine as if I leave the car idling for long enough the gauge will get to ~1/2 and the fan will kick in.

What model is your pulsar BTW?

  5. ca16de, FWD arrangement - hence f all room. That bottom hose in the photo is the power steering, might have to pull that to free up some space. Behind that is the strut tower - lack of room is my limiting factor. The prick who put it in did it wrong, jiggle valve should be on the top, instead it's at 9'oclock. With it turned 90 degrees I would have had some good purchase to bash on.

Hopefully the weather is going to be okay-ish tomorrow so will give it another crack...

  6. I'm looking for advice to remove a thermostat thats stuck/jammed in. I've got the housing off but I can't get the thermo out. And (thank you Nissan) it's in a very inaccessible spot so prying it out is difficult. Any tips? This car is my beater so rough as guts methods welcome.

  7. In the same way that Rob mentioned how the skaters got dedicated places for them to go, I would just like somewhere for people to park up on a Friday and Saturday night where we can socialise and check out others cars etc. Back in the "good old days" clubs would have park ups on Moorhouse Ave and it was great. The new angled parking space on Deans Ave I think would be a great place, there are no business' nearby for their owners to be worried about and there's plenty of space. I - along with any non-FTP muppets I'm sure - wouldn't mind if there was a police presence there to keep people on good behaviour and to enforce a friendly alcohol free zone, as most of the problems in the 'cruising' scene come back to drinking. As long as people are sober then there are generally no issues.

I personally can't see a solution to the skids other than using the (already existing) law against them unfortunately. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, I don't think building them a skid pad would be any good as they like the illegal aspect and would just do skids on the road outside the pad for a laugh.

  8. Then the cop should just say "i hate rotarys" and proceed to bang his girlfriend. That'll piss him off

that channel just shows you the kinda fucktards that these laws are made for. one thing to do it at night, but in the middle of the fucking day, CMON !!!

Thats the thing, the new bylaw does nothing to prevent this. If Bob was actually concerned about protecting police officers and the general public then he should be targeting the actions of these people. But he isn't, instead he's telling law abiding citizens who just want to drive their wof'd / reg'd / cert'd / exhaust within noise limits pride and joy to bend over and take another fine. The people at the skids don't affect much of the general public, unlike people doing laps. As "everyone" i.e. talkback radio callers and letters to the editor writers know, those scumbag boyracers need to be cleaned up, so Bob introduces new pointless law and gets media attention. Just so happens that talkback radio callers and letters to the editor writers are also the type of people that bother to vote in local elections. Win win for Sideshow Bob.

Also which videos contain skids during the day? Haven't watched all of them but from the thumbnails they appear to be just at night?

  9. Sorry but that sounds Bullshit - I struggle to believe that Police turn up at an illegal skidfest and tell people to go on their way and slap them on the wrist with a wet bus-ticket..

If it was the case that would be the best case ever of a GC cop

They don't even get a slap with a wet bus ticket, they get nothing. See the crimchurchcity youtube link Zeb posted as proof, this happens every Friday and Saturday night. If the cars where getting impounded they couldn't keep it up. And it isn't a case of a GC cop, more a "I don't want to get out of my car and get bottled by 50-100 drunk fucktards" cop. Theres not much one cop car can do in such situations, as the poor officer found out last year. So they just flash their lights and wait until everyone buggers off to the next location. The only attempt at stopping the skids is if they can get to them first and camp out to ward people away.

Hence my point, flat-peaked matte back rb det cefs on cutties drivers doing skids and bottling cops get nothing. Parking up or just driving around now will get you fined. Yet Bob Parker trys to pass off the new law as if it is to protect the police.

Don't try understand the minds or motives of people prepared to abuse police officers. Especially when dulled by the influence of alcohol. Pack mentality>rational thought process

My interpretation of it is the general dickhead hatred for authority figures when people are young and stupid. The people at the skids are usually high schoolers (or high school dropouts) who have gone from 'Fuck the Principal' to 'Fuck the Police.' Lame but true.
