  1. Newbie here.

Tried laying some 1K primer over the weekend.

At the start of each run I got very little material coming out which gave a sandpaper finish. But the further in it would thicken up so it was coming out of the gun nice and glossy.

Happened every time I filled the gun, didn't change the air pressure or gun settings throughout a run.

What am I doing wrong? Insufficiently mixed? Crappy gun?

    Pics for thread.

  2. The VIRM states that a horn must be easily operated from the driver’s seating position.

I assume this means it is okay to have a button in the dash as opposed to on the wheel.

I wish to relocate the horn to a button in the dash due to 1) never using it and 2) having consent problems with the contact ring in the hub.

    Thanks. :)

  3. Also my first concern with a WOF place wouldn't be "are they strict enough" it would be to build a relationship with someone who will do your WOF every time.

That way not only will you get consistentancy, you will get someone who will overtime build personal responsibility towards your safety, rather than some robot who just ticks boxes and pushes your car through as quickly as possible.

Also I wouldn't be too concerned about what WOF place looks best in your maint records. When buying a car I couldn't care less about who has been giving it WOFs, its present day condition is all that matters and can usually be easily ascertained with a thorough inspection.

    Just my 2 cents.

  4. Erics WOF. Been my WOF guy for the last 10 years and will be until he retires.

Eric is a car guy (has a 32 Ford), and his wife who does the admin has a T Bird so isn't afraid of old cars.

Total great guy to deal with, has no problems with me being under the car when it's on the hoist to have a good look over things myself.

Doesn't do repairs so no conflict of interest.

    $40.

Bonus is that he open from 6am so I always get mine done before work.

  5. I have relocated the battery to the boot.

The cable is quite large and thus the bend over the crossmember shows up through the carpet.

is it okay to cut a hole in the crossmember in order to route the cable through, or is this considered a structural change?

It already has several holes from the factory, just not in convenient places for me.

  6. Depends where is is? usually the best result is if you clear the whole panel. It is very dependant on the existing paint and how good your match is 10x10 is a pretty big seciton.

Thanks, I guess this is because the edge of the clearcoat will peel / flake over time?

Will do for now I guess.

  7. Going to do some minor touch ups over the summer break.

The existing paint is a base and seperate clear coat.

When doing the touch up areas (about 10cm x 10cm) will I have to do the entire panel, or will I be able to blend in?

I am worried that the new base will stand out in the blend area that will go over the exsiting clear coat.

  8. I signed up last night for a week and test streamed 20 minutes of darts through the telly on Hi-Def - picture is exceptional and sound is great. GOOD to GO!

Although I'm gutted that my telly can't stream sky through its browser because the telly doesn't support Flash and/or SKY doesn't stream in HTML5.

So I've got to run it through a laptop into the telly via the HDMI port. Have two laptops at the ready in case one gets too hot.

Okay this is good to know. Think I will do this too, hopefully it doesn't get overloaded come Sunday and crap out.

  9. Have a car that needs a boost leak test done.

If someone in Chch has an air compressor with a standard schrader valve adapter (to fill car tyres) that they are willing to bring to my place to hook up to my DIY boost leak tool (that is worthy of the fabrication fail thread) sometime on a weekend I would be happy to provide a box of their favourite beers.

    Thanks.

  10. No they draw far more than than clocks / radio. As above they will drain the battery in a week if the car is not driven (mine was close to ten times the normal current draw).

Thus they are only useful if the car gets driven every day or in a project car that has a trickle charger hooked up at all times.

Ths is why I took mine out as my 'daily' only gets driven when it's too wet to bike.

For a while I did have mine hooked up to a switch with a flashing LED in the dash, so if I parked the car in a dodgy area I could turn it on and get some use from it plus the LED gave the apperance of an alarm.

If I could find one with an internal battery with a weeks life and thus could be removed and charged each week I would buy one (possibly a cheap secondhand smartphone with GPS enabled?), otherwise they are too much of a hassle and I have reverted to other security measures.

BTW if someone is interested my GPS tracker is for sale on the cheap if they want to try one.

  11. Some of them were LSD, most aren't.

I don't think strength would be an issue, back in the day Liberos were quite popular for drag racing due to the solid rear end.

I have heared rumours about swapping in Evo 3 parts into the Libero diff too. You could give Jeremy at Evoparts a call, he may be of some help.

  12. Brought this old 10 speed for daily commuting duties and did a quick and easy resto.

If someone else has a 80's raleigh could they please take a photo of the front brake, I took mine apart and don't think its back together properly. You can see in the above photo that it swings out and thus the pads connect on the tyre.

Not fun as that jams the front wheel instantly and thus makes you look like a bit of a fool when pulling up to the lights next to the lycra warriors.
