Why put in all the effort for an old 2.3L slug when you can put in a 253 v8 slug?
Removed front crossmember to get rid of mounts
Had to shift house, it loves getting out and about. People look at it as if to say "what the fuck is that ugly...???"

Update:
Purchased some door skins, floor pans and rear windscreen panels from Australia.
Chopped the firewall (instantly regretted it but what's done is done!
Also bought two 2.3L slant engines, one good and one shagged for parts- slapped one together for trial fit
I want to keep it oldschool and 4cylinder, but I change my mind on a weekly basis
On the hunt for viva parts, could be onto a couple down south
Cheers for looking

Its sat this way for over 15 years. When I was a broke arsed 16 year old I sanded the whole thing back to bare metal and covered it with green rust kill primer.
I've messed about with different coloured spray cans over the years eventually covering it with black zinc paint.
Any opinions on colour? Original was poo brown, it had 5 different shades when I got it!
The rust kill primer saved its life it hasn't rusted any more at all! Even when it sat under a tree covered up for 12 months!
Started stripping it again getting ready for paint, covering back up with black zinc, the panel guys will do the primer
I cut the floor out too when I was 16 to stop the spread with just an angle grinder. Floor section was robbed from a HC two door
I parted out but never welded in

Yeah I want to try to keep the whole commy driveline to keep the right diff ratio etc for the 5speed, and the V6 brakes etc for cert.
IRS sounds like a challenge! Will post some pictures when I have both diffs out side by side to compare!
Did the 1800 magnum diff bolt straight into the HB?
-
No I don't know Shane, as we use Hornby radiators at work. I'll go have a chat with him at some stage. I have had a supercharged VX commy and I still regret selling it
Not too sure on rear axle yet, would be good to use the VR commodore diff, as I have a whole car but will need extensive mods.
Can you recommend anything?
Love your HB by the way, has been my motivation of late. Bugger about the crash though!
-
No I'm based in CHCH but thanks for the offer!
Anyone out there have any spare 1800 viva front suspension with disc brakes they want to sell? Or similar that will fit?
Got puny drums on the front at the moment!
-
thegreatestben Yeah they do drive nicer but 3k plus for a second hand engine? That you have to spend a grand on chains etc then 10+ hours.... i'll stick to the 3.8 for now!
When I get sick of that maybe a 304??
-
Rare spares are bloody expensive, even trade price is horrendous. Trouble is no 6cyl torana stuff fits the front of it, so Vauxhall it is? Cool viva by the way!
Whats the BF problem?
-
The newer 3.6 are shit in my opinion, replaced many stretched timing chains at my time working for Holden. Not many manuals about either I'd put a 4cyl back in it if there was a decent gm unit......

Hi All
This is my LC Torana / Hb viva hybrid, it was my first car at the age of 15 and I rolled, bowled and arseholed it until I blew up the 1256 viva engine it had to pieces.
Since then I Have taken it everywhere with me except for a few years stored in a tractor shed with the rats and birds!
I've had it for 17 years now and after buying a bloody house I sold all my toys except the Torana, so now its time to get stuck in!
I've been trolling the site for years, but never posted so be gentle with me!!! Any help, tips or abuse is always welcome!!
The plan is.......
-Fix rust in windscreens from dodgy 80s patch repairs
-Fix floors because of leaking windscreens
-buy new door skins from oz
-buy chassis strengthening kit from oz
-Find a shitload of bits missing from th 30 odd times I've shifted it
-Find a viva 1800 magnum from somewhere for front suspension/ brakes
-Chop narrow and mod the VR rear end to fit
-Chop the shit out of the firewall/ tunnel
-Fit a VR commy 3.8 V6 and 5speed and diff I just bought (holden/Vauxhall 4cylinders are shit and of the rocking horse type)
-Do some skids
I'm halfway through chopping the loom out of the VR as I write this taking a break from the coloured spaghetti!!
Here's some pictures I found when I moved her back to Timaz way for a year, cheers for looking. Steve

So the panelbeater laughed his arse off at my firewall mods then did this.
Looks so much better than the shitty left over heater shelf.
Steering has been a total head fuck but I think I have it sussed.
The new firewall is around 120mm back, should make it easy enough to service the engine etc
should be enough room for a couple of pedals in there somewhere haha
Everywhere I look stuff needs to be modified but hey-its all part of the fun
