But it looks like b the diameter could do with being 5mm larger? You would have to chamfer the rear outer edge to clear the radius in the barrel but at least it would look right and the heads would have meat to sit on
Correct, about 5-6mm would have done it, ill wait to hear back (hopefully tomorrow) and go from there. pretty keen to get it sorted asap so i can work out my ride height and fabricate new rear suspension towers its been up on axel stands for too long haha

Just looking at your wheels. If I was being paid $1500 to make custom rims, I would have rang you the minute I worked out that the centres wouldn't work with the rims. Personally I would be down there talking to the chap who worked on them and get him to explain to you how he though the rims would bolt up. I would start off nice about it up to the point where he tries to say it isn't his problem. Then I would be kicking off big styles.
But your first step is get in there and get him to "please explain" what he he thinks about them.
Hey mate, yeah I've emailed him just to point out the issue, I'm not trying to stir any shit or bad mouth the guy as apart from the obvious issue I'm really happy with how they came out.
Just thought id see if it was just me being fussy and I've missed something or how people would go about it or have any easy fixes
I think what might have happened is there's a generic size they use for the barrels and theyve been spun up then realised the centres aren't a generic size and machined them down.
I'm sure there will be a way around it

Really keen to get some peoples input and opinions on my wheel situation.. Should I Try and redrill the centre between the existing holes, machine down the nuts on one edge?
Cheers

So ive run into at issue with the new wheel barrels and please note before you read any further Im not trying to bad mouth anyone because other than this im really happy with the product, just one of those things that happen i guess..
Anyway i went to go and get the centre bolt holes drilled into the new lips/barrels only to realise that the outer edge of the centres have been machined down in order to fit inside the new barrels, this wouldnt be such a big deal but now the bolt holes have been left with under 1mm of sidewall.
IMG_1084 by postlematt, on Flickr
this now means that the nut and bolt hangs out past the edge of the centre.
IMG_1090 by postlematt, on Flickr
Which means i cant bolt in the centre, note that there should be about 130mm of dish with the centre located and bolted in..
IMG_1085 by postlematt, on Flickr
IMG_1091 by postlematt, on Flickr
There is always the option of redrilling the centres but having paid in the region of $1500 for these i think its probably a case of getting them remade? (without sounding like a fussy cunt).
Whats are peoples opinion/possible ideas on this? (please note existing barrels, centres and nuts & bolts were sent to the workshop).

Once again not trying to bad mouth anyone!
But If you know of an easy fix then I'm all ears.

Yeah i was thinking maybe a 225/45/r15, Spiderwebfx here on the forums was looking into getting some imported from the states, i don't might running a little bit of stretch on the 8.5's but definitely not after the amount a 195/45 gives, i know a 195/45 can be certed on an 8 so thats what ill run on the 7.75's up front as i already have a pair of those, and the front guards on the celica don't have any kind or arch or flare on them so a bit of stretch will be beneficial.

Trying to decide on what tyres to run on the rears 15x8.5 any suggestions? dont want to run a 195 45 r15 as thats what going on the front. thinking a 195 50 r15 or a 205 50 r15..
Does anyone have any pics of 15x8.5 rims with tyres?
any input would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

So I couldnt help myself..

Today was like my birthday and christmas combined..
After months of measuring and working out offsets, my wheels arrived
IMG_1051 by postlematt, on Flickr
I got the lip machined of the original rim and new outers made up for the front, and totally new inner and outer barrels for the rear.

Front are about 15x7.75 and rears are 15x8.5
Cant get onto the cnc mill to drill holes for the centres untill next week atleast so no photos of them on the car untill i can get that done..
I chose not to get them polished as they will be getting painted.

you would need to speak to someone who does compliance checks rather than just wof inspections.
Cheers mate, much appreciated!
Now i can get stuck in. I've got some 5mm thick rhs that ill use for the main town and then some 3mm plate that ill use to brace off the floor/inner wheel well/existing tower.

Im about to fabricate some new rear strut towers to fit coil overs in my ta22, ive heard you have to use a minimum of 4mm plate, is this correct, if not does anyone know what the minimum is?
im going to use part of the existing gas shock mount (car originally ran spring perch off diff and gad shock separate but the original gas shock mount/tower is too narrow to fit my coil over shock)
If anyone can clear this up it would be greatly appreciated.
cheers

Looking to make some new rear suspension towers for the rear coil overs now that the hilux diff is in, does anyone have some 150x150 rhs they'd be keen to sell? off cuts or the likes after 2x lengths about 250-300mm or one length 500-600mm i can cut down, steel flavour.
Cheers!

Also made up some 10mm spacers for the front camber tops, just a pic to show how they looked before they went in.

Installed..
IMG_0949 by postlematt, on Flickr
Also mocked up the rear filler panel garnish to check clearance with the rear bumper, just waiting to here back about a possible trade of a drop tank in exchange for my factory tyre well/floor pan otherwise ill just but a 40l fuel cell then i can sort the filler positioning.

So basically just trying to track down some steel rhs to make up some rear strut towers.

So got the shortened Hilux diff all welded up and back in the car, forgot to take pics when it was out but you get the idea..
IMG_0923 by postlematt, on Flickrthis is it sitting 20mm off the chassis in the arse end.
IMG_0911 by postlematt, on FlickrRolled it out of the garage to give it a dust off and give the garage a sweep and a tidy up.

This is the 6.5's with 25mm spacers on the back.
and this is a view from back/underside
IMG_0944 by postlematt, on Flickrand how it will look when the rear wheels are widened, when Gavin Bateman finally gets back to me.

Had a go at fitting the new tail lights over the weekend, centre garnish doesnt fit flush because of the hinges used, this will be sorted once ive bought another drop tank.
IMG_0882 by postlematt, on Flickr
IMG_0885 by postlematt, on FlickrIn the mean time i started cutting the diff link mounts off the ta22 diff to fit to the new shortened hilux housing. has to use a plasma cutter as i cound get the angle grinder in there
Mounts cut off
IMG_0888 by postlematt, on FlickrShould give some idea hilux housing is about 100mm norrower than the stock ta22 housing
IMG_0897 by postlematt, on Flickrlower mounts sit quite far outboard
IMG_0891 by postlematt, on FlickrHad to make a spacer up because of the step between the bears housing and axel housing
IMG_0907 by postlematt, on Flickr
IMG_0906 by postlematt, on FlickrI got the lower mounts properly welded on after test fitting then spot welded the top mounts and test fitted the diff again. i was getting some real shit welds checked the gas was on and feed was all good, it was at this point one the spot welds holding one of the top mounts failed and i then realised id run out of gas..
So no more welding untill i can get more gas which sucks, i would have had it in the car had it not been for that. should give me something to do next weekend though..

They were in Te Atatu it was just a couple of 225/50r15s that i was going to set aside and run on the rear rims of the ta22 when cert time rolls round still a while off id say
-
Did you get that pick up sorted?
Hey mate, nah i didnt in the end. no one bid on the auction though so ill see if it gets relisted.
Cheers

Love your work!!! I've been through a TA23 and a RA28 myself over the years. Actually fitted a set of flat lights to the 23 so there are some in the country.
Hole spacing is different from memory, but not to much. I remember having to slot holes, and obviously the centre garnishes mounting holes are heaps different.
Cheers
Matt
Cheers Matt, yeah theres a bit of difference with the lights but im going to have to modify the panel behind the centre garnish to take the fuel filler for the drop tank so there will be a bit of fabrication to be done but should be worth it, i know of a couple of ta22's with the flat lights but they were like that from factory or bought in from over seas, the plugs are different too.
I guess its the same with most old school cars you couldnt give the spare parts away a few years back now its nearly impossible to find parts haha.
Cheers

i know oil changers lower hutt have some mudzillas they need to get rid of , they also get a pretty sharp price on toyos, so hit them up
Cheers man, will look into it.
on another note, is there anyone in auckalnd who could pick up a pair of tyres from te atatu and drop them into a shipping depot?
Will provide payment so you can purchase some brews.
Cheers

So its the way the tooling is set up for 15" lips/barrels, and most people dont use the 12pt bolts they switch to a cap screw.
My centres must be slightly over sized from the generic 15" centres, going to call into black fasteners tomorrow and see what they have in the way of cap screws and nuts. it may be a case of having to drilling new holes with a different pcd between the existing holes.
Ill keep you updated on how this works out. fingers crossed the cap screws will do the trick but im not getting my hopes up, 0.95mm isnt a hell of a lot to work with.
Cheers
Matt
