  1. Yeah, 1 of these but in full FRP, not carbon sadly.

    and a pair of these:

    They'll match the boot-lid I already have.

I also managed to get this over via EMS so it arrived ages ago.

Not sure what PBT was on about with it's other P.North lark though, sounds more like they fucked up because my stuff was only ever destined to sit in Dorkland until I could figure out getting it down. Luckily I have a contact with TNL though.

Youll be stoked when you get them man! can believe how light they are compared to the factory panels aswell! i was tempted by the carbon fibre panels but theyre not cheap.

I noticed restored were doing frp bits of trim now aswell, i would have got some bumpers and hood vents if they were available when i ordered my bonnets and guards

  2. Yeah, your guards were wrapped up with mine, got guards, bonnet and a few other bits and pieces.

Mine are still in Dorkland, will be enroute when possible. Pretty excited.

Aha i see i wondered what they were on about when pbt called me haha.

are they datsun panels? im sure you you wont be disapointed when they arrive!

  3. Yeah man stupid iPhone and shit light, I'm sorting out the exhaust at the moment so the car is jacked up on axel stands but as soon as that's finished then I'll drop it back down and roll it outside and get some decent photos. the panels are sitting in the house so they done get knocked or damaged in the shed.

Did you get some restored panels too? I got a call from Pbt asking if I was getting some stuff from restored sent to palmy or Hamilton as well as Nelson, can't remember which place it was now haha

  4. hahah, sweet.

You're happy with the recommendation of getting restored.jp gear though, I take it?

Cheers for putting me onto Ewan at stacked man, real stoked with the new panels will only need minor panel work before paint!

Just posted some photos in the build thread!

This is looking amazing man. What a nice body.

Cheers man, its getting there slowly still looks like a bit of a heap but paint should sort that out, these cars are pretty and have some awesome lines!

    Cheers

    Matt

  5. So here are some photos of the restored.jp frp panels as requested by Kyteler who was also a real good sort for putting me onto Ewan at stacked.

Pretty happy with the build quality only a couple of minor imperfections and a small amount of damage on the the front drivers side corner of the bonnet which is to be expected when shipping something of this size from japan to nelson.

Anyway photos!! (taken the night i got the panels so will get some better photos in the day light).

  6. Long time no update, ive still been working on the car here and there, lost motivation for a bit while i was waiting on parts, got shit loads of photos so ill have to look through them to find the ones that look like ive achieved something haha..

Anyway tank filler needed sorting, i bought a flexi fuel hose, filler neck and roll over valve from the uk, got here in under a week. then worked out the angles.

16976380241_5ce614e734_k.jpgIMG_2291 by matt postle, on Flickr

got a 90 degree stainless bend along with a bit of 6mm stainless plate and cnc'd it to suit the old fuel filler.

16977231605_d7bae7e649_k.jpgIMG_2349 by matt postle, on Flickr

took the photo before it was bolted down as i still had to drill the hole in the tank for the toll over valve. Also baught some an fittings for the tank, block off caps along with an an10-an6 fitting so i can run braided hose to the fuel pump. The fuel level sender was also reading backwards to it was saying empty when it should have been reading full and vice versa, i switch the wiring between positive and earth but didnt make a difference so in the end i rotated the sender 180 degrees then bend the bit of stainless wire that hold the float and that worked a treat.

Next up i noticed that the diff head had bugger all cleance with the tunnel at the back where the rear seat is fitted (about 20mm) so i cut a hole..

16789828140_080b575c63_k.jpgIMG_2309 by matt postle, on Flickr

then realised i probably would pass cert with a hole where the back seat should be so i bent up a bit of steel, was a bit of a mission as i only had a vice, angle grinder and hammer..

    bent it up to fit..

16357153433_560b796b64_k.jpgIMG_2357 by matt postle, on Flickr

spot welded it into position then borrowed an oxy acetyline torch to warm it up and gammer it around the contours of the existing floor pane/tunnel

etch primed and under sealed.. good as new! well nearly, its not pretty but the seat and diff head/drive shaft will hide most of it..

ive also spent alot of time checking out the wiring etc, had to rewire the tail lights from scratch to suit the pre facelift flat tail lights, i also had a real mission trying to find the plug for the reverse lights.. checked all the plugs and wiring under the dash etc, ended up hooking a battery unto the reverse light wiring at the tail lights and tried to trace it with a volt metre, it turned out the plug was in the engine bay hidden right under the brake booster where the engine loom comes out the firewall.. anyway my tail light wiring came up sweet!

Ill have to upload some more photos and get onto some more updates tomorrow.

    Cheers

  7. I know a lot of the guys that run the mot drags and are in nzdra, they own their own car orientated businesses and do everything by the the book in terms of building their cars/hot rods etc that have had to redo a lot of stuff that's all been done to a high standard because the certifier either isn't familar with the car or the way something's been done (more that one way to skin a cat). Also heard that they can be hard to deal with if the car isn't to their liking in terms of make and model etc. thats just what I've heard from a few older guys that have dealt with both certifiers.

Not trying to bad mouth anyone that's purely word of mouth but it's from a lot of older guys who build hot/rat rods and V8s etc and have dealt with both certifiers in the past.

I've only dealt with Barry so maybe a bit biased but he's definitely a top bloke and more than happy to help, supply info on how to do the build and come to you to view the car and go over any issues before you fork out for the cert test

  8. Nice build man, ive seen another anglia getting round nelson thats been resprayed in a new ford blue  same wheels and thought it might have been yours when i saw your build thread.

Id recommend Barry Dowler in mot for cert, hes really good and really helpful and he'll come to you before cert and go over the car just to make sure theres nothing blatantly obvious that it will fail cert on, ive heard a couple of mixed reviews for the certifier in richmond.. but in saying that i havnt dealt with him myself, just had mates who have.

    cheers

    Matt

    Matt

  10. yep that master will be fine.

    what clips are you after?

Sweet cheers for the info man! Might just buy one of those wildwood adjustable brake bias valves off trademe.

All sorted for clips now I think, they're just the ones that hold the chrome trim around the frot and rear windows, got 40 of the for half price but might still need to get some rubber trim that goes around the the doors/side windows.

    Cheers

    Matt

  11. Oh yeah. Topliss. Classy! I know tony the pom who works part time there. I think my old boss gordon dacombe is friends with the topliss family. I bet there are many nice machines there. Very bloody handy !!!!

Yeah man, not going to lie its pretty handy when i do get the chance to go in there, i worked there in the arvos after school, every school holidays and for a couple of years full time so they know me in there well enough. makes me wish id done an apprenticeship while i was there haha

  12. Hey Matt- loving how this is going.

For your brake question- Disc calipers take more fluid movement from the master so you usually need a larger diameter master to go from rear drums to discs. Otherwise you will end up with excessive if not slightly soft feeling pedal travel. If you can select a master cylinder bore size off a car that has discs all round then do that. Is your dad a machinist? Another option would be to bore out current cylinder. It might only need a couple of mm to work- so long as the casting is thick enough to allow.

On those window clips- did you try scotts old rubber in OZ? He normally has them and a lot cheaper. Check him out for other bits you might need.

Are you in Nelson or Blenheim. Id love to check this car out.  After seeing a sweet as satin black one lowered in Wales, UK I have always liked these. That engine too - is such a cool classic twink shape.

    Alex.

Cheers Alex, might have to check out scotts rubber ive got genuine toyota weather seals but still after a few bits and pieces and got the clips for a discounted price as i placed a big order.

Im in Nelson, car is located out wakefield ways but will be bringing it in to town to get glass put in, wheel alignments etc over the next few weeks/months youre more than welcome to come check it out.

Im running a pajero M/C which seems to be a fairly common upgrade for ta22s in aus. never converted drum to disc and would rather get it right first time round instead of having the brakes fail while test driving it haha.

My old man is the foreman of the cnc shop at Topliss Engineering and i worked there for a number of years so its pretty handy.

    Cheers

    Matt
