At work we check belt tension by twisting the belt 90 degrees on the longest side, if it twists anymore than this then it's too loose. Hope that makes sense...

That one on its own on the back of the intake manifold is usually blocked off with a bolt but as far as i know the cordia turbo guys use it for a boost gauge.
-
Could be a blocked emulsion tube.
The old mirage did similar things due to me painting inside the air filter housing poorly ( heat and fuel vapour stripped it pretty good). I just swapped 2 ignition leads and started it up, the backfire through the carb cleared it out and was good for a few days.
so i'd suggest clean carb and run an airfilter

I think they're the guys that my work uses. got my vac advance rebuilt for my mitsi starion and it cost me $85 (dunno if we get discounted rate or not though as we don't get a lot rebuilt).

Pretty good little cars with a manual box. 02 sensors, temp sensor and coil packs can fail. The window cables/plastic pulleys can fail too but the regulators seem to be ok. Thats all i can think of atm.

Sweet, let me know how you get on.

Sorry for the late reply.
Yep thats all i did. Straight swap, timed and a coil. It's been running good and reliable for over a year averageing 150ks a week.
-
Hey, I have an 82 Mirage running the 4g11 motor with the 4g12 electronic dizzy, it works well. I changed the coil as well as i rebuilt the 4g11 while i was still using the 4g12 motor

Hey guys
Could anyone in Blenheim lend me an engine stand over the easter weekend?
-
Got the correct oil level?
The oil that came out, did it smell burnt?
The metal dust in the sump, was there clutch linings in there too?

$2000 is being safe, if the planet needs replacing then it can be around that amount. Aussie assembled falcons and valiants run a different bw35 as the planets are larger compared to the english bw35's so i'm told.

Sounds like it's gone into failsafe if it feels like taking off in 3rd gear. Being in failsafe its probably an electrical problem. If you know someone with a scan tool they could check for fault codes. May be solenoids.
-
commy autos go alright as long as they're serviced and have an external cooler fitted if towing.
-
If it's still got the auto ecu hooked up it may be putting it into failsafe (auto ecu) limiting the engine revs as both engine and transmission ecus talk to each other. as everyone else says damage limiting.

Sweet, good to hear.
There's another filter in the trans but you can't get to that one unless you overhaul it.
-
Hey, how'd you drain it?
Does it have the spin on filter on top of the trans?
Takes about 7.8L dry fill
-
Basically you hook the transserve machine up to the trans cooler lines, fill the machine with however many litres it takes and it will flush the old oil out, flush the cooler and torque converter at the same time. The level will have to be correct to start with though as it only replaces what you put in eg 6 litres in, 6 litres out.
Check the level with the engine running in P or N. The pump will fill the converter.
Dropping the pan (to replace filter etc) and depending on transmission size will only give you about 3- 3.5 litres out of 7,8,9 litre systems
Can you get a trans model code? if so i can find out at work how much oil it will take.

Tap and die for cleaning up threads?

Try these guys

Got one priced up for my 82 Mirage carb, Came with needle & seat, acc pump plunger & gaskets
and was $83.70+gst.
Haven't actually ordered it so no idea what they're like.

The Synchro hubs and some bearings from the 4 speed might swap too, you'd have to have a measure up
-
Try getting Synchros from a 4 speed box, i was told they were the same
