  1. Would like to keep it auto, cant decide weather to go turbo or stick with the trimatic, advantage with the turbos seem to be more aftermarket support but that require more to fit into the commy?

What state are the engines in?

Cheers very happy with it, last owner for about 15 years old guy said he had never had it over 80kms, which is probably why it stripped the timing gear on the way home doing 100km

Looks like all he has used it for is towing a garden trailer to the dump every now and than, with the usual dings and scratches that you can expect. But everything is very original nothing has been touched or tampered with

  2. Well i have finally found myself another "oldschool" car. A 1983 VH commodore sl/x. Only 2 owners since new even still has the factory radio! Current reg and wof but unfortunately it broke the timing gear on the drive home :(

Plans for it are, well obviously the mandatory v8 conversion, most likely a tickled 308 once i can find one. But in the short term i would like to get the old 202 going again just to keep the car on the road while i build up a 308 and source all the parts i need.

Started striping the engine down today to get the old cam out and turns out it probably needs a lot more work than i thought, water pump needs doing, radiator is buggered, all hoses are starting to get perished, gaskets are looking tired as well. So now i am in two minds weather i spend more money on the 202 or just park it up and use the money to go towards the v8??

  3. I'm after some held with a vh commodore I have just bought. It's a sl/x so factory 6. Wanted to put either a 253 or 308 in it. Done a search on the Aussie forums and there seems to be a difference of opinion on if the bolt strait in or need to change a couple of things.

Can you just use all the 6 cylinder box, k frame, drive shaft ect or do you need v8 stuff? What's the ultimate bolt in combo as far as diff, box ect to mate to a 308?

I'm guessing to go to a chev 350 you need to change quite a bit?

  4. So ive been having a think about how i want to do this project, i could either do the standard engine up big cam side drafts ect orrrr A ROTA :D

Ive always wanted one and it would be different, yes il have to buy some new baggy t-shirts and flat peak hats but i thought thats a small price to pay for all the biarches i will pull ;)

But seriously what do you think of a rota conversion for the old herald? Yay or Nay?

  5. Small update, picked up the two engines today, very happy with what i found, came with the factory 1300cc engine and a 1500cc out of a toledo or spitfire, so thats a good score. Also was talking to the old owner it has had factory vitesse two pot front brakes fitted so another good score :D

As you can see they both need some work

  6. Yeah its going to be some work, i think finding the parts i need is going to be the hardest, there seems to be a few sites over in the UK that still stock a few bits. Trying to tack down one that some one is wrecking would be handy but i think the odds of that are slim here in NZ.

Yeah thats the plan, basically i want it to look like that, probably keep the 1300 or maybe get a 1500 spitfire engine if i can find one, couple of webber side suckers, race cam and strait pipe should do the trick :D

  7. Cheers, i got it off trade me, guy out Darfield way has a paddock full of escorts, morris, ect ect and he is getting rid of some http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listings.aspx?member=1989790

Always loved the look of them, a few months back i seen one that looked very similar to the one with the widened steels in Hanmer and after that i had to have one :)

Came with two engines, picking them up this weekend as i couldn't lift them by myself and a spare box, both 1300cc. From what i can see body seems ok, but as you know you really cant tell until it is stripped back, i just need to free up some garage space asap.

  8. Hmmm where to start? Heaps to do, body id pretty solid apart from the bits ive taken photos of that i can see so far, interior is farked, just need to get my other car finished and out of the garage before i can start this, itching to get it stripped down and under way though :)

  9. Hey just a bit of advice with those signs you have around town, how come you dont have where it is and maybe cost of entry as not everyone knows where it will be. Always thought it was a bit strange driving past a big sign saying "Drag Racing, January 30th" Could be any where lol

  10. Its a 501 Elite i think, 1975.

Yes will start a project page for it, the old man is down in Ashburton and im in chch. He took the heads of last night and oh what a surprise the engine is brand new  Looks like has just had a full recon he thought it would be buggered. Only down side is both front and rear subframes are completly gone from rust. Will take some pictures and post them up when i get down there next
