  1. Running way to rich.

Couple of things could be the issue.

New air filters have modified the air flow to the point that the main jets need adjustment. (most likely)

Low oil level in the carbs.

I do realize that sounds real odd but both type of carbs used on T 2000's and 2500's use a oil filled damper that runs down the middle of the carb.

If you unscrew the big nut on top of the carb you will find a piston like thing on the end of it.

The tube it fits into should have visable oil in it.

Red X or Singer 3 in 1 oil will do the job.

That system is refered to as a "dash pot" if you want to google it.

If CD type carb the rubber diaphragm my have a pin hole in it.

You've played with the main jet seat adjustment. Big nut under the carb can be turned by hand if SU style carb.

There's many how to tune guides out there for these cabs out there, none of them are easy and if you're a British side draft virgin I would recommend you get someone to show you how.

  2. The XA, XB and XC V8 with C4 powered Falcon with the column shift use a linkage that runs across the front of the trans pan to sort this problem.

Getting hard to find now but they are out there.

Before someone tells me such a thing doesn't exist, they do, I've owned a V8 Falcon with a bench seat and column shift.

    Flip it

  3. Re. Rebody questions.

    This may help.

Brother has been racing cars for years and has "reshelled" 3 now.

As morkster says it's all about the paper work.

As long as the new shell is legit and not stolen or writen of all is good.

I don't think this would carry the same weight with the collector side of the market but it is common practice with competition cars.

  4.  I've seen the Suzuki SJ 410, SJ413 and Jimny ones used.

Don't know how good they are though but with the amount of them used in the 4x4 scene I would think there are aftermarket lockers and ramp type centers that would be far cheaper than the T series Toyota.

  6. Give these guys a try first, managed to get a tappet cover gasket from them after months of looking over seas with no joy, they had it on the shelve and a LOT cheaper than I had expected.

  7. Are the poly-vee pulleys pretty standard on nissans?

Yes on most post 85 models, a couple of the older engines still in use at the time like the 1200 (A12?) and commercials hung on to the V belts for a while after that date.

Or are they all sorts of different offsets and diameters?

    1. Diameters? Yes to suit Crank pully size and top RPM of engine. You can get an alternator spinning to fast, you basicly burn them out.

    2. Offsets? Not as many as you would think. Tend to get that sorted with the mounting and or spacers on the input shaft.

A jump to the newer belts is a good idea more and more the only place you can get V belts is an engineering supply outfit. Just like tubes in tires they are becoming something of a specialty item for vintage, classic and specialised uses.

  8. If you remove the dome it WILL reduce the thickness of the crown of the pistion making it more prone to overheating in the middle.

The reduced skirt will only cause problems with a OEM pistion unless you are very carefull, even stock you see cracked skirts from time to time and they will need to be adjusted for weight once machined.

I would also think under piston cooling is a great idea.

It really sounds like a set of Forged pistons is what you need, mods to a OEM piston are only going to reduce thier life span further.

  9. If it's clicks it's not the elastic band it's mechanical drag in the gears.

One of the gears has likley got some grit in it or the drive rollers have stuck together.

Get in there and have a gentle poke with with a small blade screw driver to see which one is causing the problem, once you know it may be simple as blowing it out with some air and re greasing the loaded points (shafts and gears).

While you're in there use a cotton bud and some cleaning solution to clean the pinch rollers and pick up head. (isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol that the car painters use)

  10. The printed curcit sheet will have dirty connection pads.

At the point where the contact for the bulb holder sits against the circut sheet there is a section of the copper track that has no sealer on it.

Use some very fine sandpaper or a steelo pad to clean that small bit of the track then put a smear of grease to stop it reoxidsing again, refit bulbs and test.

This is very common and was something we saw a great deal when servicing the BMC's. Was happening on cars as new as 5 years old if in a damp inviroment.

    Good luck.

  11. 86280

    AMPLIFIER ASSY, STEREO COMPONENT 86280-19015   1 $3,653.61 86120 RECEIVER ASSY, RADIO     1       1   86120-39015 AM/FM MULTIPLEX (4 SPEAKERS), W/CASSETTE STEREO 1 $3,345.58

This is an example of what toyodiy can provide and it's cost. CRINGE. These are for of all things the 4 channel stereo for the AE82 JDM Corolla GT 4 Door.

  12. Is there a round output on the back? Like an old mic or speaker plug. 20mm or so with 10 ish pins? Sorry it's been a while and the memory isn't what it was, so many drugs and not enough time.

I noticed the 70 series wiring diagram in the back ground, I know the 70 did have a 4 channel double din head unit but the 80's had them to, you may be working from the wrong bible.

I can tell you now technics will not be able to help with a wiring diagram, they built these under licence for Toyota and not for the general market so the only place you will get one is from Toyota.

If I was you I would go see them and ask if they can check the part number on it and see what model it's from, if it needs the pre amp and if possable a wiring diagram.

They might be resistant to start with as the info will most likely be on micro fiche.

One of the guys here on OldSchool is a parts guy at Toyota but I can't remember his handle.

http://www.toyodiy.com/ may shed some light in this department to as you can do a part number search.

  13. Shit, haven't seen one of those for many years.

I can remember when these came out. proper "Suround Sound" stereos like this where top of the line.

From memory there was a small pre amp that plugs into the back and has it's own set of wires from the loom as well and without it it's just a nice way to fill the hole.

They where an option and a spendy one at that, I have a suspicion the loom was unique to the double din head unit.

I could be wrong but it's the only thing I can think of other than the head unit it's self being faulty.

There may be a work around to get the head unit to go without it if you could get a electronics tech to check it out.

  14. Mate! Please don't do the Chev in a Ford thing it's just WRONG.

Yes the Alloy 5.7 crate or Commi engine is a great engine but in a Sierra Saphire. HELL NO!!!!!!!!! YOU WILL BURN IN THE NINE LEVELS OF FORD HELL!!!!!!! and every True Blue Oval fan will hate on you so bad you will wish you where there.............

Now if we can get serious and not take the piss. I think there was a 4WD version of the Saphire that actualy ran a V6 and I it was also a NZ new vechile around the same time as they stopped building the TX5I Telstar and started doing the Turbo Falcons. Ford NZ was looking for a mid sized performance four door. As it turned out nether was great in the sales department but it does mean that out there somewhere is a RWD format gearbow for a Serria that suits Ford/ Mazda Quad Cam V6 it will be spendy but I think the end result would be well worth it especialy when it comes time to sell the car.

Good luck with the project and please if you must go with a US spec engine use the Supercharged Thunderbird V6 and Auto? (may be a Mustang T5 that suits out there to)

  15. I doubt volume is an issue.

Got a pair of 12 volt truck horns in my Rolla, the gauranted at 105 db type.

Gets the inspector and every one else in the workshop every time.

People get out of my way real quick. Imao every time...........

When if comes to Air Horns I've had them as well in the past and as long as they are constant tone they are fine.

You can have musical one as well but they have to be on a curcit all of thier own and can't be used as a "warning device".

I think everyone is telling you the same things.

  16. I have two such examples.

Old lady in Edgecumbe driving a 86 Crown with the 1G-GE, 24 valves of Toyota goodness.

Even older guy here in Waitara has an 75 Toyota Highace truck which I know he's been driving since I was at Waitara High in 1981, yes I'm that old.

Give it a few more years and my Corolla and I will be listed here for all the world to smile at, or laugh at.

  17. If you can remember the party you missed the best bit.

We had a wrecker open here in Waitara a few months back,

    .

Dropped in a few times, they always had what I was after but wanted moon beams for the parts.

In one case (an oil pump for a 4A) he wanted more than I could get a new one for.

They didn't stay open for long, I wonder why?
