  1. Are there any hardcore tuning gods on here? And by that I don't mean tuned half a dozen 1uzfe setups, I mean tuned 50 1000hp evos/1500hp skylines/supras, etc

Or just anyone with good theory or practical experience tuning injection timing on a variety of engines.

Staged injectors with large distance to the intake valves? Someone do the math for me?

Rotaries, how much timing do they like in different areas? NO idea...

Old hemi non quench engines that needed lots of advance, and then if you went 1 degree too far exploded? How far did they need to go?

You might want to inject aligned with intake opening or closing and build backwards or forwards from there, but how much would you want to change that timing over the full operating range of the engine?

How about siamese injection for austin/? A series engines, any knowledgeable people on that here? (same goes for buick straight 8 too)

For anything mild like my ute or less, or even more, just dumping fuel in whenever is more or less fine, but for extreme stuff, and esoteric niche stuff like the A series engine and injectors that are outside the throttle plates, etc, timing is important. Tell me what you need from a user perspective.

If you're interested in the gory details, here is the thread:

  2. For Slow'n'low, Cam, Ned, and any other geeks!

There were a number of issues, some subtle, some obvious, some 3 years old, some 3 hours old.

    1) That logic for "self set" was backwards, once reversed it had a nasty miss and then pulled to redline/the sky

    2) I found a corner case in the scheduler where if overall advance = 0 (inclusive of engine offset and timing and cylinder offset) then no output event would be scheduled (we weren't hitting this, though)

    3) The logic for self sched was wrong due to using a 2 bit mask to *TRY* check two conditions at the same time, I've split that into 4 or maybe in future 5 end points now instead of 2 before.

    4) Added a feature to add an extra scheduled event if swapping events out from under the decoder such that one would be missed, BUT, got the var in the setter condition wrong, completely wrong, and didn't notice till just a while ago, when I did fix this, it ran/runs MINT.

    5) Swapped order of register fiddling to match other code part (unlikely to have caused any affects, but consistent now)

The above took 48 hours, total, sleep, shower, etc. Now it's rock solid!

Tomorrow I might run a silver top 4age and/or a 1uzfe both on engine stands, if things go well.

If I haven't killed myself, the engine, the car, the circuit board, got arrested, whatever, and if it's on the 13th, I'll be back one last time just before I fly away to a bunch of freeems geeks and my beautiful girl :-)

    Fred.

  3. Great to meet some new faces this time :-)

Sorry for the 3800rpm rev limit and associated lack of burnouts.

Thanks for the burger, Chris! Most appreciated!

Someone said the next one is on the 13th? If that is true, I fly out two days later, so I may be able to attend that one too, I figured I'd miss it, though. Time will tell.

    Fred.

  4. I'll be there for sure, unless I get busted on the way OR BLOW UP THE ENGINE AGAIN.

Fixed :-( I'll still try to make it, but the ute won't be there, and there won't be a FreeEMS car there unless someone with a B6 or BP car wants to wire their engine up to a db37 with my pinout and let me tune it for them briefly. Any takers? Orion? Thought not. I'll bring the latest souvenir along for a laugh. This engine just didn't handle the torque/boost/power, unlike the last one, which I killed fair and square! This one would have died on MegaSquirt if not for the gapped down plugs which we opened up about 10 pulls through 3rd ago...

  5. The ute was sideways wildly a few times today, and no MegaSquirt was in sight. It's faster than on the MS bad/2.0 tune now, with NO tune. here is the no tune that its running on:

    Literally untuned! :-) And rapid!

I'll try to add a few more features and get the tune smoothed out a bit before the meet, but:

I'll be there for sure, unless I get busted on the way. If anyone wants to checkout what FreeEMS is like and can do, be there! :-)

    Fred.

  6. Depends on the input pattern it has. Most Toyota engines use a dual VR setup. To use that unmodified you would need to add a dual VR conditioner such as the one jbperf.com sells (Jean is a good guy). However you could cut a single tooth off of the 24 and get a 24-1 and run that for COP/Sequential or 24-2/12-1 by grinding two off and get wasted spark/semi sequential on the built in (by me) VR conditioner. I don't know what old toy motors use, though.

As for me doing it, I've got too much to do, sorry. As per the thread I can provide info on my mods and setup, but not much more. It's very easy, though.

The burger is for the "FreeEMS - that'll be ready in 5 years" comment - how is 2.5 months? :-)

As for the "right price" I do want my money out of it, it's worth good cash, and I need that cash to survive while I work on FreeEMS and prepare to either get a job or leave the country (or both). 400usd which is what, 500 or 600nzd? gets you the same thing, without customisations, from diyautotune. If you look on trademe you find v2.2 boards with ms1 cpus for 500ish. Be careful to compare apples with apples. The for sale thread is dead honest. I could have not mentioned the negative stuff without being dishonest. A lot of it is true of all MS units too, anyway.

MS2 has a lot better performance than MS1 and the V3.0 board is a lot higher quality than the 2.2 board also.

    Fred.

  7. Got some software issues ironed out tonight :-) Going 4wding till mid day sunday, will be trying to run ute on FreeEMS then. It should run better with a good EMS and some tuning :-) It'll be nice to see the back of the MegaSquirt in the knowledge that the new EMS can only ever get better and better :-) IE, I'll be there on FreeEMS this time, or I'll set off the night before and fucking walk.

  8. Got code running on mine today! :-) More mods and checking to do, but getting close to usable!

Black boards aren't too hard to trace traces on, only where the white silkscreen is on top of a border between trace/not is it hard. Granted it'd be easier if it wasn't this way, but it's still not too bad IMO. And I'm a noob, so...

phr34kr - anyone got a phone number for this man? land/cell/both? I've not heard anything from him recently, either that or my memory is completely shot.

    Fred.
