  1. Well that was fun... sealed all the carb up plumbed in some pressurised air and it shat itself...

Then I got angry and went for a blat in the GTR and that shat itself...

So now I've rebuilt the carb in the corona and I'll have to look after it for a while so I can get around...

    Fuckin' cars.

I have put in an MSD electronic ignition system which has made an incredible difference to the running.

  2. I've just finished sealing all the holes up on the carb to see what would happen... now it doesn't even idle...

    Its not reading lean

just dies as soon as I engage the charger.

will keep running If I keep my foot on the gas but it runs in vacuum. Only comes on pressure when I let off the accelerator and then dies.

alloy box should be here on friday hopefully that helps...

  3. Bad ass rotary drivers!

hence why you wont find oldschool sticker on car

Ruben's keen to check out your seven if you're about on friday?

  4. I'm liking this crazy box idea...

I guess i'll need a seal around the throttle actuator? Which will be the first thing to go if it does start spitting explosive mix out.

as long as I get it on video making a big mess that would be ok...

Pipework would be easier not having to get onto the top of the carb...

I'm not sure whether the float will collapse though?

I guess i'll just make a box and find out...

I have mainly seen blow through on SU carbs.

Old V8 Fords etc. could be had with blow through using Paxton Superchargers and Ford brand Holley 94s.

One other option is to lower your compressor speed by changing pulleys until the carb can manager it. Lowering the float bowl setting MIGHT help too.

I know nothing about what you are trying to achieve - I am just guessing.

I think i'm in over my head here...

What is the SU carb? ( please excuse my ignorance!)

I'm running about 6PSI into it. and I'm basically just trying to see if I can get a little more power out of the old girl...

I've got the charger plumbed straight into the top of the carb ( no intercooler at this stage) and I've just pulled it to bit's and tried to seal up any obvious leaks...

I really have very little knowledge of carbs in general but i'm guessing that making this actually work is going to be alot harder than just sealing all the gaps and hoping for the best?

  6. So I've plumbed an sc14 super-charger into the factory 6r engine in my corona.

Worked out the bugs and basically ended up with a consistant flow of compressed air blowing all the fuel out of any hole it can find in the carb.

    Ha oops.

People keep talking about 'blow through"carbs, but when I push them further they don't really seem to know what they're on about.

Basically what I want to know is can I make the setup run with the original carb or do I "need" a special one?

What's the difference between 'Blow Through" and "Draw Through"?

  7. Got the super charger all mounted properly and running today after some issues with the pulley last week.

Seems to be giving me about 10PSI but ther's oil flying everywhere and the seals on the carb can't handle the pressure so I basically only succeeded in blowing the fuel out of the carb on onto the manifold...

Did some good skids in the driveway first though. Ha

Can't seem to get it keep the pressure up either so I'll have to look into that and hopefully be able to drive it by the weekend...

  8. Apparently there's a cruise in ChCh tonight.

Westpac trust 10PM I've been told.

    Anyoune else hear about it?

It's supposed to be quite big in aid of friday the thirteenth and the good weather...

It'd be good to see a decent "oldschool" turnout.

  9. Thank's for the comments guys, Avatar thingy is gone... Didn't expect it to come out that big it was the smallest shot of my car that I have.

Anyways I chose the SC14 mainly because I got one cheap and partly because I understand they give better airflow, seeing as I don't intend to run it constantly I figure It should let enough air through the pipework to keep the carb happy when it's not engaged... I hope. HaHa.

  10. This is me and the missus' rt84 corona project.

We've had it about 6 weeks now and It's kept us fairly busy.

    It's got a 6R 1707cc 4cyl in it with a w40 box

I've done 2" blocks in the rear

shortened struts and springs in the front

16' rims with some new GT Radials

pioneer headunit, jvc front splits, 6 x 9's and a pioneer 12' sub with sony amps

    Battery moved to the boot

    Fusion alarm with remote locking

Shaved badges, front door locks, mirrors, aerial, rear door handles and boot lock.

    Sportline steering wheel

Defi style air/fuel, water temp and oil pressure gauges

Autometer 5' Tacho (in facia) and boost gauge

Re spray in Raven Black with accents in gloss silver

    electric radiator fan

    frontmounted inter cooler

Toyota SC14 supercharger with custom pulley arrangement

pipework is being made up to suit this week so I'll need to work on getting the belt to stay on properly...

Please let me know what you all think of it so far... //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/21817-73-ronas-1973-rt84/?hl=rt84
