Yeah they're really just as good as any commercial offering I reckon - just that if you pay some outfit to do you a Link they handle all the grunt work like configuring the damn thing to work with your engine's specific angle-sensor setup etc.
Way back in the day I was quoted $4500 for NZEFI in Christchurch to do me a Link (G3, I think) for a 4A-GTE.. base price of the ECU was like 2k and the rest was all the extras required to actually make it work with the motor. Fine if you're a rich cunt I guess but as far as I could see there wasn't much the G3 offered that the MS2 couldn't do.
Other sweet thing is you can buy the MS2, get it all working and then later on upgrade to an MS3 just by dropping the newer processor in. In fact I think you can even go from the MS1 -> MS3 by doing that..

Damn, I swear they must've come down in price because I'm sure that you used to pay a premium for the small form factor. Diyautotune reckons the Microsquirt injector driver isn't up to running low-impedance injectors unless the engine is a twin, so that is probably the biggest disadvantage (for me at least, I have low-impedance injectors).
Personally I'd still go for the MS2/3 for the additional flexibility if the only reason for choosing the Microsquirt is that you don't like the look DB37

The Microsquirt has less outputs and is a bit less flexible/customisable than a regular MS2 or MS3, they're really more for motorcycles or other installations where space is at a premium.
From memory they're OK to run a 4 cyl but any more than that and you're going to be making some compromises in your design/control due to the lack of outputs. They're also more expensive than an MS2 IIRC.
Don't hate the DB37, DSub connectors have been used in space - pretty sure they'll be fine on your car.

just gonna chip in with another epic score - the facelift hardtop is easily the sweetest of all the X60s, and a twincam to boot!
btw where did you get the bands for the longchamps? i've got a mate who has a set that could do with some wider ones.
-
fucking desperate to get this back
will pay decent cash for its return.
-
its a rear boot badge looks like this:
it was flogged off my te71 sprinter in the sumner area sometime between saturday 22nd and monday the 24th.
if anyone sees one of these getting round on some shit-ass dx then it's likely mine.
there is a REWARD for the return of the badge - no questions asked if that helps get it back to me.

Anyone know of one of these kicking around? I tried to buy a knock-off from ebay but the guy selling them is a fucking idiot yank who says he'll send things and then doesn't (sigh).
Toyota (unsurprisingly) can't find SST 09248-27010 in their catalog..
It's mentioned in the 18R-G "green book" so I figure there must've been a few of these SST's in NZ Toyota Dealerships back in the day... maybe someone has managed to salvage one and wouldn't be averse to making a few bucks selling copies?
I know I can just position notches in the cams so they are facing upwards, but it'd be nice to have the proper tool (or a copy) to do it.. Surely a few other people on here roll 2T-G/18R-G engines and would be interested in this as well.

sweet facelift te71 corolla hardtop.

like i said previously, being polite goes a long way. unfortunately the officer sometimes has already made up his/her mind about you before you open your mouth.
i've had far more reasonable cops than bad ones. doesn't make up for bad ones though.
-
kyteler is another another lucky chap...
just because you feel you have never experienced police discrimination based on the car you drive doesn't mean it doesn't occur.
i've never been raped by a police officer, doesn't mean it hasn't happened to someone else.
yes the the job of the police is tough, yes they should be commended for mopping up society's messes.
all the good they do doesn't cancel out the bad - i believe in giving credit when it is due, but i also believe in personal responsibility and see no reason why the actions of police officers shouldn't be subjected to scrutiny like everyone else.
the inability of the NZPD to accept and learn from criticism is what prevents them from being a truly excellent police force instead of just a good one.
-
the ol' crywank eh?
anyway, some facts:
#1 old cars rule
#2 thieves are fucks.
#3 and while its very nice that in this case they are doing a good job, the cops aren't always a force for good.
-
nope, but chances are like most weirdos on the internet he's not as bad in real life.
we have been involved in internet scraps previously over boyracer legislation and police discrimination against "boyracers" - a group which for some cops can include anyone under 30 in a car thats older than 10 years.
basically i find him taking offence to the suggestion that police aren't always entirely fair when it comes to dealing with "young" people in cars pretty retarded.
the cops do a great job, and we'd be fucked without them. but it doesn't mean that they don't sometimes screw up and make bad calls. to say the police don't treat segments of society differently from others flies in the face of both my personal experience and historical record.
-
you're always wrong and I'm always right.. LOL
all good dude.
i understand that its easier for you to retain your narrow world view when you're not forced to defend your position
-
I've owned old cars for a long time and I have NEVER been discriminated against by a cop because of it.
looks like someone else decided to use this as an excuse to get on a soapbox too...
if this is truly the case that you've never been unfairly detained or bothered by the police during your years of old car ownership then you are indeed a lucky chap.
most cops are gc's. treat them politely and they'll return the favour.
the few that don't give the rest a bad name... i'm talking the ones who keep me waiting 25mins (i timed it) on the side of the road when my car is reg'd and wof'd and my licence is legit.
the ones who try to green sticker my 1979 car for not having high stop-light.
the dipshits who ignore a ute with a dangerously unsecured load while they fine me $30 for doing 106kmph in a 100kmph zone. i'm not saying the speeding fine wasn't warrented - but realistically which is more of a danger to other motorists?
its great you've "grown up" and decided that the police are awesome guys, but unfortunately reality ain't ever black and white and to claim that police don't treat people differently based on their "profiling" is a pretty bold claim.

My RT94 Corona Hardtop, guys on JNC reckon these things are somewhat rare. I know there's still a good amount of them over here in various conditions
Did you buy some RT132 doors off me the other week?

the local repair cert guy came around to my place a while back to check out an old de-reg'd ae70 ht i have.. he had a good look over it, told me it was sweet as (doors had a bit of rust but nothing in the chassis that i/he could see) and then went to leave without even asking for money. i had to force a $10 note into the guy's hand.
your local guy might not be quite so friendly, but i'd imagine they wouldnt charge all that much to just give their opinion on the car.
-
man elite did a sweet job on my works.. like pretty much mirror finish on the alloy.
i had them done in pairs so i could keep driving around but each time there was only a week turnaround. only cost $50 a wheel to polish and paint.
sucks other people seem to be getting a raw deal from them, makes me wonder if i should go back...
-
I got a bushing made up from them maybe about a year ago.. They'd moved to southwark st, between manchester and madras, up by the polytech end.

My friend had no major dramas getting NZEFI in Christchurch to use TunerStudio. I think they were initially a little cagey over the phone, but when he turned up and they realised he knew what he was doing and wasn't just some dreaming dropkick it was all sweet.
