  1. Well i now have DET Block, that has no pistons or rods, and the crank lost a bearing which ate away at the crank someone did the bearings and put the wrong sized bearing in or something. This crap shouldn't be through out the block should it? It's all sitting in the sump etc but I'm guessing the oil filter should have stopped this getting in the engine and the shavings shouldn't have got anywhere near the journals etc?

It has a new water pump on it, done less that 30,000 ks.

So i could get a 2nd hand crank, rods, and pistons, new rings and bearings and get this rebuilt?

I also have the Sump, Front cover, Both solid mounts for the engine mounts, i just need to get the rubber mounts.

I have also brought, a Intake, both ends complete with Throttle body and idle sensor.

A 20De Head, with no cams, but valves and springs, that have done 140,000ks with cam cover and caps.

Exhaust manifold from a GtiR, and dump pipe.

And i picked up a Sr20DET gearbox on trademe this weekend for $200 which can crunch when selecting 2nd, so maybe just a new syncro.

This gear is just for mocking up and getting the body ready for the real thing, but could it be worth looking at doing a cheap build as i have so much already?

    What are your thoughts?

So far it has cost $471

  3. Depends on what your doing with it really.

If i had my time again, id get a front-cut. Trying to find stupid bits is terrible.

I am going to be Repowering the Dolomite with it.

I have Run Japaneses Spares in auk, and i can get a front cut for $4500 Incl GST

who is the importer? there are some good ones on t/m and some bad ones

i would be asking what is the warranty with said engine?

most place's are good and offer a start up warranty ( cause hey at the end of teh day thats all they can really offer ) i know some have 5000k warranty too

i got my engine off auto part distributors, they do advertise on tm abit, but my one was done on the par via word of mouth

but yea front cuts seam to be the best bang for buck sometimes

  4. Just a quick question about coils.

I just replaced my so called 12volt coil in the car along with all the other ignition bits.

I brought a Bosch GT40R off trade me, so i had to get a ballast resistor to run with it.

So anyways with the old coil in but all the other new ignition parts it would drive and rev sweet but if i lost traction and over revved it

it would then ping under load.

Now with the new coil with nothing else changed you can do what ever you want and it never pings, would it have made that bigger of a difference not having the ballast resistor to keep the running voltage at 12Volts on the old coil?

    Cheers Stew

  5. Itl be so mean if he does.

Motor and box went in last night, found a engine mount as my one was completely gone, it then turned out to be the wrong side.

But then we found you can change the rubber and they are the same so that was sort of lucky.

Picked up my radiator today after some new modifications, got some new fuel filters, some coolant.

Should be up and running tonight :)
