  1. Have you tried going through an insurance broker ?

Have them do the ground work for you.....I did that with my KE25....didnt even have to lift my arse off my seat to do it either

  2. mint, gonna be so much better than pukey...

dunno ow long it will last tho, road races in nz seem to have bad luck

A major hurdle to hosting Australia's V8 Supercars in Hamilton has been cleared with the granting of resource consent for the annual street race from 2008 to 2014.

One would hope for that and a little bit more :wink:8)

  3. yea im after a diff too.... probably not gona be keen to send to welly or gisborne though are you?

freight would be a kick in the pants from where RT is...I have a dioff for mine lined up for $600, it just happens that the rest of the Capri has been thrown in free 8)

  4. Dont know off the top of my head.....but I am heading to Taranaki this weekend (my Capri is up there) and as I have just rebuilt the front struts on her they are still out, so I can take measurements if you like

  5. whats the best way of removing the underseal? its some nasty lumpy shit. Im thinking i'll remove mine and redo it all as well. doesnt really needed to be painted over as blakcs fine for the wheel wells as far as im concerned.

I used a couple of methods on the Capri, sandblasting while very effective is also very messy in a confined area but the results speak for themselves with this method.

Angle grinder with wirebrush type head not as good as the sandblasting and takes a bit more time and the results are pretty good.

Electric Drill with wire head, mainly used' for the hard to get spots and just as effective as the angle grinder

As for the wire brush, well lets just say you might be there for sometime using that method'

  6. Gonna be heavy. Or are you talking about the fisoline shit n crap.

weights not a "big" issue with the Capri as its the tow vechile and at the end of the day I'm probably removing more than what I am putting on 8)

  7. Hell yes

Do it once and do it right 8)

I dont see the point in spend top $4's on a good paint job if its only going to last a short period of time due to rust somewhere.

As they say a house is only as strong as the foundations it's built on :wink:8)

  8. I know exactly what ya mean

Doing exactly the same on the rebuild of the Capri, remove 35 yrs worth of road cr@p and underseal, rust convertor, prime and then new underseal 8)

And like yourself there aint noway I want the Capri starting to rust once all this work is done

  9. from toymods

    "W57's came in RA60's, RA65's

    W58's came in RA65's (some), MA61's, JZA80's (behind the 2JZ-GE)

    - Pre-82 (or thereabouts) most larger RWD Toyota cars came with a W40 (4-speed) or W50 (5-speed). Smaller cars came with a T50 5-speed (some Celicas and Corollas) or a K-series box (most Corollas).

    - Post-82 the steel-case W40/50 was replaced with the alloy-case W5x boxes. Generally speaking the 4-cylinder cars came with a W55/57, while the sixes came with W58's.

    - Post-92 or so saw the introduction of the second generation W58, which has updated internals including double-row synchros on 2nd and 3rd."

Either way, the steel case Celica W50 is a totally different box to the Alloy supra W55/57/58/59

I don't know for a fact that the 57/58 came in turbocharged models but it would make sense as they are the strongest and have the longest spread of ratios ideally setup for larger engines and turbochargers.

Also a handy page to give all the specs for those boxes can be found here http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/loats/technical/ma61/gearboxes.html

Took me a while to find a decent W58 with alloy bellhousing as well, but very much worth the wait.

Good luck with the box RT

  10. Drive train is all starting to piece together now 8) Supra box & bellhousing were picked up in the weekend and a replacement diff has been found.

Next on the list to do is finish the prep work on the inner guards, prime, paint and apply a very small amount of underseal. Front struts & diff can then go back in which will allow measurements to be taken for alloys, all this is planed for the next trip to Taranaki in a fortnight 8)

Ohhh and project #2 is a KE25, currently with a bluetop 4AGE but that will soon change  details on that latter :P

  11. another one from wgtn here.

currently have two projects on the go, 1970 MK1 Capri & a KE25, both in my mates workshop in Rahotu (Taranaki).

The coast road up that way is a nice drive, the only thing ya have to watch out for is the milk tankers :lol:

  12. man that looks like its going to be one mean capri, pretty nicce rims too. where are you getting your electronic dizzy from?

    welcome to the site too

Yeah rims are going to cost me an arm and two legs but they are what i want to set her off so it has to be done 8)

The Dizzy is a Toyota one  already have it so it'll be dropped in when the block is slapped back in the bay 8)

Thanks for the welcome 8) looks like there is a good amount of knowledge to be tapped in to here 8)

  13. Bit of history - I brought her off a really good mate of mine who owned her for the last 10 years, in that time shes been used as a daily drive up until about 3 years ago where she ended up sitting at his mothers place in paraparaumu exposed to the weather etc, shortly after that all the rust was removed and repaired on the exterior, then she went to Taranaki with him where he didnt have the time to finish what he started. Rather then see some young 17 yr old get their hands on her, put an 8 in it & wrap it around a lamp post I decided to purchase her myself and give her the much loved TLC the old girl deserves.

    The Start

    Progress So Far

Front struts totally rebuilt, new KYB shocks, new King springs & new DBA vented & slotted front disc rotors (no point in going fast if ya cant stop), struts have been sand blasted & re-sprayed black to match the rest of her. Calipers are currently being over hauled & should be back on in the next 6 weeks or so. A semi large hole has been cut out of the drivers side foot well where some rust was found, currently fabricating the replacement for this & should be in pretty soon.

Re-built front shocks (G/box in pic was going to be used but have decided to go with a Supra box)

    DSC00671.JPG

Both the left & right side front inner guards have been sandblasted back to bare metal & rust treated in preparation for being painted black.

Diff was removed & dis-assembled, discovered that the pinion gear is cracked so am in the process of sourcing a replacement, will be going with a Hilux 2WD LSD

Existing Diff with a few extra shiney bits

    DSC00517.JPG

Original 4spd box will be replaced with a 5spd supra box for added toughness and reliability.

In terms of the engine itself the only real change there will be the replacement of the old points dizzy with an electronic one, rocker covers & mounts have been sandblasted & painted, still have the air filter housing & cover to do.

So as you can see its getting a lot of TLC, once the mechanicals etc have been sorted it'll be time to start on the body itself, which as a result of a lot of hard work over a weekend before my mate took her to Taranaki, should go pretty smoothly, she'll be rubbed back, primed & painted in black with the original chrome going back on.

In terms of the interior there’s not much to be done there, a bit of a touch up here and there along with new Kenwood audio, alarm with a internal screamer in the cabin and replacement of the original front seats with a set of after market reclineables, purley for the fact that i want something a with bit more shoulder & head support for longer trips etc & and possible manfield days latter on down the track.

Once back on the road she will be sitting a new set of ROH 17" alloys, which will be done as a special run for me in aussie as I found out that the alloy I want is no longer brought into New Zealand

Once all is done she will hopefully look like this

Forgot to mention, she's the Fist V6 MK1 Capri to land on our shores 8) even have the original paperwork from day one when she was registered 8)
