  1. "Who killed the electric car", not a bad doco, and does make you wonder if we could be further advanced in the electric car route if they didn't do what they did (in the movie).

is that a movie or a documentary? i have heard of of it i'm sure. is it an interesting watch?

Would be interested too. Where to get?

I've got a copy, wanted to watch it, so bought it off amazon for $10 or something a couple years ago.

  2. Yeah the stainless rear trims need a different window seal to fit to, they actually clip over a special design rubber trim, won't work on the inlay type 808 rubber trim.

The rubbers are quit rare, only came out on the first of the 808 wagons 73's or the RX3 wagons in the states / savannas in japan. the heat in the states has destroyed all most of the rubbers over there.

I got some of the trims from the states for my old wagon, then was price raped to get the rubbers for them off a dude in NZ.

Have found a few sets over the years since, put one set in my wagon, but pretty sure i have at least one other set sitting there too. Will let ya know!

  3. Heard you got a Savanna GR badge, nice Score!

I might have some rubbers for your quarter glass, and a rear stainless trim with rubber if you're interested.

They will all be in storage, but clearing out a heap of stuff out this summer, pretty sure there is some in there.

  4. Yeh it was well screwed by bad prep and too much bog aye.

It sucks cos they're getting really hard to find in good nick.

Your car really does look identical, my flatmate saw the pics and asked if it was mine!

What made you wanna move on from it?

Owned if for about 5 years, just got a bit over it and wanted a change, starting getting interested in Mazda rotaries.

That celica owed me about 15k back then scary...!

The 18RG was getting tired, and I couldn't find parts back in the 90's! was runing twin side draft 45 webbers that were totally out of tune, drank more gas than any rotary i've ever owned and was still slow.. lol

That white RA28 belonged to a mate of mine, he got it stock standard, fitted an 18RG out of wrecked RA23 GT we found, complete with standard twin solex's.

lowered it on the 15's other than that was stock. Good to hear its still in one piece!

Would possibly own one again if it was a tidy car to start with.

Toyota absolutely suck to find parts for, there parts dept do nothing to help out owners of old cars, they just aren't interested.

Mazda on the other hand, you can get anything you want with a done of replica parts available. Which you need if you are actually going to drive the thing!

  5. Wasn't saying you were butching it, just saying to see it butchered from the state I saw it in back in 1996... ish? (just to be clear) probably used the wrong words. :)

Was a minta back in the day!

I like some of the Jap spec rat look cars, the everything chrome plated blingy autosalon shit i'm not into at all.

  6. When i owned my RA23 back in the 90's your one was rolling around the same time.

People kept saying they had seem me somewhere.. your car looked almost identical to mine, just had 15" wheels (mine had 16")

Finally spotted it in the late 90's and talked to the owner at the time..

    This is my old one..

Kinda sad to see that car butchered, always had a soft spot for the old celicas.. but oh well only a car.

A mate is right into these aswell, this place below has just about everything you would ever need.

  7. Yeah the sKiD kIdZ seem to like the electric water pumps, stop cavitation and the water flowing at the same rate when they are bouncing off 13,000 rpm in second gear...

They seem to fail quite a bit though, not sure you can beat the reliability of a mechanical pump.

  8. on the topic of finished vs unfinished, i roll with the same thoughts as andrew. I start a million things at once and dont really finish anything. I think for me i have so much fun dreaming up new and more complicated ways to do things that it seems a shame to finally do it, settling on just one idea which is usually not the way i wanted to anyway do it due to lack of time and or money.

Think the saying is "It is better to shoot for the stars and miss, than aim at the gutter and hit it." or something like that.

Yeah i used to be like that, now just give up on putting the 26b PP turbo bla bla ahead of time, as i know in reality that isn't going to happen right now, and I hate waiting.

I kind of see my car finished before i even start it, try to stay focused on one small task rather than being overwelmed by the 12000 parts i've got to sand, or paint strip, better to just focus on the one door/guard whatever you're doing.

Think this car shit is a total waste of life sometimes. This is definitely the last car i'm ever building, very over spending 100's of hours of spare time choking on paint dust.

I'd rather just go to the beach for a surf or go snowboarding. :D

  9. 12a front is on.

Was going to resto it as an 808, but couldn't help but sit the 12a front on.. after that it was all over, badges, trim other bits... couldn't help myself.

Still has the 808 interior in it, but got all the RX3 interior sitting in storage, might put it in to.

Andrew you have finished heaps of cars, you just need to keep one you have finished! or finish one of the ones you have kept.. :)

  10. Yes keen as for some hockey stick mirrors, just finding it really hard to find any!

GR badge is near on impossible to find, so probably no :(

Lol, yes with P Plate people might think its the orange one with a repaint.. oh well. Has all hard to find parts off the orange wagon including the nose cone.. haha.

  11. up till 2am drilling holes in freshly painted panels and making mounting clips.

Then slaping on woodgrain.. painfull job... :?

    trim1.jpg

    trim2i.jpg

    trim3.jpg

    trim4.jpg

Now time to start aligning all the panels properly and geting the glass and other crap in there.

  12. Hope your not going to put that RX3 front on it. If you do you will have to put modgies on it with window bombings. :D Be different Aaron, keep it 808.

Other than that, nice work. Although thats always expected of you as seen by your other projects.

I'm racing you to finish your Cosmo, though i think you should convert it to a 121 just to be different :D

There is heaps of 808 wagons around, so not to fused sticking some RX3 trims and panels on it, have all the 808 bits here could swap it around week to week just for fun.

  13. Finally getting some panels on, just need a spare 100 hours to finish polishing trims/glass and everything else, aligning the panels and then should be back in one piece for the first time in years.. lol

    fronturu.jpg

    backxt.jpg

Decided I might just convert it to RX3, was thinking of leaving it looking like a standard 808, but quite like all the blingy RX3 trims..

Need to mark out drill some holes and fit the RX3 tail gate chrome and the factory wood grain for the back, so should end up looking like my old wagon.

    back2v.jpg

What it will look like with the RX3 spec tail gate.

    rx3wagon.jpg

  14. sweet to see progress on this thing man

did you keep the woodgrain trim off your old wagon or did you manage to find a couple?

Yeah scored another RX3 wagon tail gate from the US, just need to polish the trims up and stick on the wood grain, managed to find another roll of it, full day job pain in arse! not looking forward to it.

good to see you dragged the 808 out and started to bring it to life once again. any idea what motor your going to put in it?? keeping with the 808 square front or going 12a??

Kelvin i believe those steel rims are 808

No idea on motor at the moment, sold the 13bt setup I had for it years ago.. was going to resto it back as a stock 808 wagon then switch it all over to RX3 when I do the engine maybe, atleast I wouldn't have to push it everywhere haha, stock motor is still sitting around... thought I'd paint the 12a front to match at the same time.

Yep 808 rims, off my old wagon they were pretty strait rims, so kept them :)
