  1. pffft, with the gearbox, it'll be fine standard...... back in the day they only put straight cut gears in, and that was just to get the extra 4hp that they drag out....

I know a few race guys that use fully standard gearboxes, they have no problems, just dont be a homo and try and do burnouts everywhere-any car that does that ends up fucking their box, on minis, just make sure you do regular as servicing (i used to change my oil every 3000km) and if you're gonna work it at all then get a decent oil cooler, since the engine and gearbox share the same oil it makes it alot harder to keep the oil in good cond and cool temps

putting a kent in it would be a step backwards, after spending all that money, you'd wind up with the same horsepower as a 1275 engine, and it'd be even harder to work on

    holla

  2. bore and stroke a 1275 out to 1440, deck 80 thou off the pistons, build a custom turbs manifold and run a t25/t28 hybrid

straight cut 6 speed gearbox from aussie, mad disc brakes, blah blah blaH

    AWESOME

or work a 1275, bore it to about 1380 or something, twin 1.5" SU carbs, mad cams

    tits as!!

  3. for the money, get ahold of a set of twin carbs or something..... i'd hit a ramflow, just make sure you heatsheild it from the exhaust, it gets really hot back there.....

I used to run no filter at all on a downdraft weber, (couldn't close the bonnet with a k&n without cutting a hole in there) ended up scorching the paint on the underside of the bonnet, used to backfire a bit when it was cold (choke wasnt set right, used to flood) make sure it's all tuned and a foam filter will be sweet.... gettin cold air to it would be a good idea if at all possible.

if it's only a 998cc, it may have a 1.25" SU carb on it, a 1.5" form a slightly later model 998, or from a 1098cc (with correct neddle and piston spring) is a good upgrade from that.... post a pic of your carb if you don't know which you have and I should be able to tell

  4. get a set of long branch extractors, run a straight through 1=7/8" exhaust, chuck a set of twin carbs on thur,do plugs, points, leads, oil&filter get it tuned by somebody that knows how to deal with su carburettors... that'll make it way less asthmatic, get some topend etc... next get some decent shocks, and some wide 10" rims, with 165s if you havent already.... you'll be surprised how good it'll go after that, minis are so cool :D

  5. checked ballast resistor? on the start circuit it supplies the coil with a full 12v,ballast resistor reduces it to five on a seperate circuit when running... my bet is that it's fucked....

  6. I used to run a 500CCA battery thatfitted tight in the battery box of my mini, running 4x50w headunit, extra gauges, 100watt driving lights blah blah blah...... making sure the batery terminals are very clean and tight and have good contact is imperative, given the lucas "dim, flicker and off" style electrics, and the length of the positive lead...... i never had any probs with mine, as long as the alternator is sweet.... if yo're running a generator still, ditch that for an alt...

  7. Minis are quite common for wearing out the little coupling thing that joins the gear linkage to the gearbox selector.... they flog out and makes it a prick to get into gear sometimes.....

speedo cable often leans up against the exhaust manifold, the heat causes them to grab inside the outer casing and break....

theres a few mini specialists up aucks way which will have heaps of bits....

  8. I would recut the hoels in the panel they've made bolow the back seat to put ur 6x9s,thats what i used to have

6' splits/components make a higher quality sound, make some spacers up and put them in the parcel tray

  9. If ur gunna be doin more off-roading than on-roading, then go for the range rover. Otherwise ya cant go wrong wit a toyota. Range Rovers r good off road but r shit on road!! They r one of the best OFF road vehicles, but dont have a very good on road reputation!!

uhh, ok, gna disregard that post - have you ever even driven both of these types of vehicles? pretty sure it'd be more likely round the other way.....

  10. hahaha,

dont think the rover would be the best offroad.......

i'm swaying toward toyota right now..... fuel bill and off road capabilty being the strong points toward toyota, still love the look of the rover tho, even tho landcruisers look mint still, hmmmmmmm, closer inspections necessary i think

  11. hmm, s3 landrover never appealed to me...

the fact that 30 years on from their original, which worked well, they still couldnt get them to be tame on the road....

I'd much rather a landcruiser to a land rover, i could go on all day why land rovers aren't good 4wds, whereas a RANGE rover can be summed up at face value as to what it can and cant do..... if you get what i mean haha

  12. So yeah,

Lookin at buying a 4wd, don't seem to be able to decide between a couple i'm lookin at....

    1st, 1973 RANGE ROVER! V8,

One of the few non-jap vehicles I like: big, high, torquey, 2door, ooozzes awesome.....

2nd, mid '80s TOYOTA LANDCRUISER, short-mid wheelbase, pto winch, diesel 3.4 blah blah blah...

    can't decide.

On the one hand theres the obvious economy difference, which isn't really a necessity with it being a second vehicle.....but then again i wouldn't wana break the bank jus goin to taupo in the fucker or anythin. Both are awesome, with the cruiser being a little more off road capable, in saying that, the rangey wouldnt be completely inept at this....

On the other hand, the cruiser isnt quite as "pimp" i guess you could say, open exhausts + tints + huge wheels and shit would be tits as, but again, it would be on the landcruiser too.....

    hmm, what do ya reckon?

  13. Nah man, 1600s have bigger valves. but you could get the 1300 and put the 1600 valves in it. i think the 1300 head is higher comp too but im not too sure on that one.

1300 head doesn't have combustion chambers, i.e: it's completely flat, therefore higher compression.... flows less though, and will be wayyyyy to much compression on a 1600 with 1300 pistons, and crap anyway
