  1. If he needs any bits - gimme a yell, I got more Zephyr/Zodiac parts than I know what to do with.

Is it just a point of welding up the rear doors?

A good conversion will have the B-pillar moved backwards, new steel paneling to replace what was once a door and a section added into the front doors to elongate them to fit the increased size. The other option, if the style of car came in a 2door, is to use the doors off to save having to elongate your own doors.

I only know of one where conversion done with longer doors etc. Long time in the making. Not even the factory convertibles had longer doors.

I will pass that on about the spares. He also has a MK1 convertible!!!

But yeah the B pillar was moved back and the door were made longer, took him ages to make up the window winder thingie in the door. I will see if I can get any pictures of the build up etc.

Theres a Mk1 convert on TM at the moment (whether its listed or not I cant remember) for 5K, needs heaps of work though. I prefer mk2s personally. Friend of mine has 2 mk2 convertibles, I have 4 mk2 sedans here in the driveway 8)

Fully keen to see build pics.

  2. Those rims are nice - there is something about black steelies gives me the warm fuzzies/semi

I guess you don't know anyone driving to chch in the near future?

Thing is I know a chap north of chch who has a big paddock full of fiats and lancias - and I know there will be a few sets of that style - much closer than akl. Guess i'd need the check the offset too...

    How much?

Make an offer I spose - plus shipping. They not doing anything here, they have Michelin tyres on them, only good for skids though.

124 is RWD, unos FWD - filled out the guards bloody good actually lol.

God I miss my uno - but I cant be assed spending a couple grand on fixing the motor :( It went so well.

  3. Still got the uno muzzie?

    Yes and no.

I actually sold it to my mate for cash plus my prefect. He then fried the number 2 main the following week. He said I can have it back for free, so its currently on hold in his garage lol

  4. The paint isn't so bad - I think I would only paint it if I had to get in there and fix some rust - having owned Fiats before I am reluctant to start anything as epic as this.

Any pics of the rims Muzzie?

Yeah man........ see here :) Straight out my Uno Turbo project thread, so theres a couple more pics in there too. Theres also 2/3/4 (cant remember) chrome trim rings as well that fit them.

Nup, its a full on cut and shut.

    It's not a Zephyr either, it's a Zodiac.

I know of at least one more in NZ, and another over in Aussie.

Straight 6 is probably just it's standard 2553cc cast iron boat anchor. No revs, but torquey as.

  6. Wells, a heap has happened in the past couple months.

Another two Zephyrs add to the collection. One bought is partially restored and partially put back together by previous owner, have intentions of fix and possibly keep. Has an overdrive which I'm stealing for my red one.

And the other was a freebie from someone who tracked down our car club. This basket case has been sitting by the ocean for 15 years, and as you can see, is falling apart. A half assed wash made it look heaps better. Don't have pics of it washed though. This is it when I got it home, on my awesome trailer.

Spent today trying to get the motor running - previously the best I could manage was it turning over slowly. Replaced starter, and replaced leaky carb with a spare and it fired up with some tinkering. Running on 4 cylinders though :( Pulled the rocker cover off and was greeted with two stuck valves and this.....

    bentpushrods.jpg

Bugger - valves - 1, pushrods - 0. Managed to free up one of the valves but the other is stuck fast, so will require head removal to free it up. So it runs on 5 now. Proof of concept though, motor runs and runs well considering, so I have a spare now with some work :D

Also found an old 12ft side mount aerial for it, and a 3.5:1 complete diff which is lower ratio than current one. Sweeeeeeet
