  1. Well, update. Wreck car is now in pieces. Motor came out today, along with gearbox and several other bits and pieces.

Bought a new stereo for my red car, along with a venetian blind and some chrome splash guards. Blind was cheap - another Zephyr owner I know paid $1500 for his one!!

Pics of them installed tomorrow hopefully. But TM pix......

  2. Yeah they are staunch little cars,

I brought mine for a rear disk brake conversion on my Strada, the Uno apparently had a 'blown engine'. Found it had just shredded teeth off the cam belt, so I put a new one on and it went sweet. Not bad for $200.

I upped the boost to 1 bar and put a filter & exhaust on mine.

When the boost came on you could get it skidding in 3rd gear in the rain, good times.

Why did I sell that car? :(

I keep thinking the same thing. I loved my one - esp in the traffic. Went like stink.

Glad I sold it though - the guy who bought it off end ran a main a week later

  3. Does anybody know how much they went for?

    Specifically the Strada 130tc.

    Uno Turbos go hard.

    Amen.

I had one, then sold it and my mate ran the main in it lol.

So he gave it back - I just gotta find a new motor for it.

Probably cost just as much to get new bearings and do a crank grind - although i suspect it'll be fucked.

  4. Yamaha and Onkyo are a couple of other good brands.

I've got a Yamaha, 9 channel thing plus zone 2 (gives me effectively 11 channels plus sub lol)

Paid $800 from harvey norman for it, 50% on special.

    Good future proofing 8)

  5. Couple of things.

    A) The mesh visor doesn't really suit the car. Really needs a proper steel one.

    B) Extending or shortening visors is a cunt. A total utter bastard of a thing. I've seen it done with steel ones and they never ever look quite right, so I'm not sure how you would manage with a mesh one.

My suggestion would be look for something thats closer fit and steel.

Steel = too heavy + wind resistence. I've allready got the drag from the drivers side oversized monsoon slowing me down enough... once it's over 60 it starts pulling to the right!! Just jokes.

Proper steel ones I've seen have a gap just by the windscreen to prevent too much air getting caught up in it.

My one rattles a bit actually in really bad cross winds cause the centre brackets that clip onto the gutter haven't got the bottom bolted piece, so it flexes enough to rattle

  6. Pops have wooden floors (i think) :)

Just like prefects, and signle sheet of steel. Nowhere to reinforce nothing. Regardless, I reckon it would wreck the originality of the car.

Not to mention it had a vinyl roof section that hadn't been steel filled like most are when rodded. No doubt you COULD fit them BUT it would of cost more than the car. I made the personal choice and took the personal risk, and any passenger were well aware there were no belts. Life is full risks, you simply need to weigh the cost/benefit for yourself.

    Callum

Yeah, I forgot about that little detail lol.

Mines had a piece of steel riveted into place there as well. Would make a good sunroof actually

Contemplating selling it though :( Too many cars. Any interest to you?

  7. ^ speaking the truth, nowhere to mount seatbelts/possibly front lapbelts (trafficators in the way for dirtly big 3 point bolt bolt on b pillar)

If you want safety belts in any car they can be fitted with the right engineering. I used to work for a LVV/Compliance company and the ingenious methods of fitting seatbelts to cars was incredible.

In the case of the ford pop(if its like the old consul i had), you'd probably reinforce the inner roof pressing at the top of the B-pillar and put a dropper off that to the level where the belt would normally be bolted. inertia on the floor/sill at the base of the B-pillar up through the dropper across chest to the buckle and then across hips to the floor.

The real question is.. what is the price (for safety) are you willing to put on yourself or any occupant that happens to be in that vehicle when it has an accident.

As for the how many in a non belt car - I think it's pretty much what you can fit without people sitting on each other. I've had 8 in the zephyr (bit tight but none the less), went through a checkpoint. Cop checked the two front seat outer passengers (factory belts) and sent us on our way.

  9. Heres a cool trick....

Mount a head unit somewhere where you wont see it and run somw wires up to the sun visor and mount the face plate on the sun visor... easily hidden and easily accessed...

Problem being it's only low voltage wiring and you get too much voltage drop so majority of the time it won't work :(

  10. thanks guys. Yeah surely GM would have known how shit and unreliable these cars would have been - they could have at least put towing eyes on it :P

    My magnum had towing eyes....

had it towed on more than one occasion lol. Drivers side up under the valance - stupid place though - it bent the valance up good cause it was too high on the car.
