  1. Finally popped her cherry, removed all three cats and old exhaust manifold, put some custom built extractor and a couple of resonators on it and has made such a difference!

Looking nullify the air pump and emissions stuff soon and then putting a decent filter on it. i will post picks soon.

Off to Highlands in Cromwell on the weekend to put her in the car show, is anyone else heading there?

  2. Have been thinking that I want to a couple of mods to my rx7 without dramatically changing the original components of the car, due to how tidy and original this Californian car is. I have been toying with doing something like this....

With a very conservative setup as to prevent damage to the engine. Using one of these kits...

What do people think and what are peoples experiences with low power NOS applications to stock street cars?

  3. Nice, i was wondering about removing (maybe replacing with a resonator) the cat from my 85 series 3 rx7, however this clears it up nicely :). Does anyone know if this will this keep the noise similar? or how much loader without a cat/res at all, just rear factory muffler?

  4. Hey dude, yes has been too long however have a garage and another mint project. Sad to hear the 510 is getting an sr! Would have gone a little more old school. That z18 was cool!

Next time I am in chch will definitely catch up with a few of the crew.

Plans for the rx7.... not sure but will be something different while keeping it kind of original?

  5. Yes has been too long, but finally have an empty garage and a really nice example of a Gen 1! Kyteler... you will be the first person i call into see when i eventually get it down to invers :)   And yes it might have had a plate like that not long ago Evan, but not anymore. SFOS was epic back in the day!

  6. Hey Everyone,

It has been several years but I finally have another car since selling my red Datsun 510. I have always wants a Gen 1 RX7 and finally 3 weeks ago I travelled to New Plymouth and drove a mint original one back to Dunners.

I will post pics below, however here are the specs:

    Generation 1, Series 3

    1985

    87000 miles

Left hand drive - US import, 2 seats only

    12a original engine

GS model with AC, Cruise control, tape deck, electric mirrors, automatic choke

    Color - Desert/New Trad

Has a genuine RX7 leather? nose cover

    Origninal everything :)

I am not planning to do too much to her for a start, just tidying and maybe a tweak or 2.

  7. what i was worried about was the fact that my sub is a 15inch and the step down to a 6.5's might miss some of the punchier bass?

was thinking that the 2 8 inch woofers would fill the gap, is this how it works?

  8. Hey guys

I am in the process of kitting out my 510 with a full stereo system and need some advice as to what speakers to go for?

At the moment i have a

-15inch sony sub, boxed in the boot with its own 2 channel amp.

    -i just bought a pioneer deh3750 head unit, 4x50w, preouts, mp3....etc.

I am thinking of going for a 3 part component set, 2x 8inch, 2x 4inch, and 2 tweeters with crossovers.........

I want the best overall sound i can get and i was thinking of putting the tweeters and midrange up front, with the 8 inch subs in the parcel tray.

What do you guys think, would this achieve what i am trying to get, or should i go down another path?

    Cheers H

  9. i would love a 160j as a daily driver, when the 510 gets to big and scary to drive every day.

i know where a 140j shell lives in this part of the country, dont know body condition but it will probally be rusty as.

what are the major exterior diferences between the 160 and 140j?????

Hey Paul u need to get that puppy ready for the SFOS next year

  10. Have you it going before or is this a fresh conversion/build or something...?

Is the oil feed factory or did you make one is what I'm trying to say. Often if you just make a tube and fitting as an oil feed it will be too big and pump too much oil in the turbo. Been there, done that. You have to fit a restrictor in the line. Carb jets are good. Like my T3 uses a 1.8mm restrictor.

But if you're running a factory setup then don't touch it.

Turbo smoke is distinguishly white normally. It won't foul your plugs or smoke/oil into your intake because it's coming out the back of the turbo exhaust housing and straight into your exhaust pipe.

No oil restrictor might be a good start, as i am just running an oil pipe into the turbo at the moment as the factory one was missing.

i am wondering weather the plugs were petrol fouled.

  11. thanks for the reply........restrictor to the oil feed????? there is an oil sender unit which i have attached the oil feed to.

the smoke is definately white grey, and there is no oil coming out of the filler cap.

so there could be oil fouling the plugs from the turbo yet no oil in the intake pipe??????

  12. If your turbo shits itself and starts blowing smoke out the exhaust, do you normally find oil in the intake pipe running into the engine(no intercooler)????????

Mine is smoking hard out, and the plugs are oil fouled, just recond the head with valve seals, acid clean and pressure test so no issue there. Dont think its the pistons as they looked fine when i had the head off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

  13. well is it possible to have an offspring off the oldschool club? such as revolution eg.just for escorts or so?

that is pretty much how the datsun.co.nz club started, bit more specific to our cars in terms of discussion. not to rip off oldschool. i think if u are going to branch off then make of car is the way to go, otherwise u are just starting an opposition and a huge bitch fight.

    good luck

  14. The only reason you need RWD is if you want to do burn outs & stuff,But give it time you will get over it. I did.

Havent done a burnout in 5yrs. Dont exactly miss it either.

I mean why waste Rubber  .

Understeer, is my reply. If u have Oversteer in a RWD atleast your front wheels(steering wheels) are pointing where u want!

Why do you think all your F1 cars are RWD.

.......just my opinion eh..........i drive a FWD as an everyday car and my toy/datto is RWD 8)

plus i dont do burnouts :!:
