  1. Just to save you going back through the previous posts ;)

Handling wise, the car is AMAZING.

    ...

I took these same roads about 18 months ago in the GTi6, and I questioned the need to have a Lotus, the Peugeot being nearly as fast and nearly as much fun... While I stand by those comments, the Lotus is just on an entirely new level aurally... it raises the bar substantially.

    ...

Given my initial impressions on the road, I'm very much looking forward to testing at the track as it promises to be nothing short of awesome.

  2. much of NZ debt is private though. hence all the finance company collapses - people mortgaged beyond their means, $1 down finance on 22" spinners etc.

Teh government is in debt but not thaaaaat much, nothing like greece and spain.

not sure if that makes it any better or not. also we are saved by high commodity prices/trading with australia/parts of asia that have money to spend.

Ireland didnt have much govt debt until recently when their banking sector collapsed, Spain still has a large portion of its debt privately (though not for much longer).

Govt debt is probably more critical than private debt but neither can be ignored.

  3. The biggest reason for ACC being so huge is the change to it being fully funded.

Essentially in the past ACC levies had to cover outgoings for that year, if someone got a life long injury their future costs were made out of future levies. Now it has to be fully funded so when someone gets a life long injury there has to be enough in the fund to cover 40 years of 80% of their income etc.

That would be fine if itd been done like that from the start but to get there now (well actually a few years ago) requires paying a huge amount more to cover the amount that was underfunded for 30 odd years. ACC makes billions of dollars of profit each year and will need to continue to do so until its fully funded (2019 from memory). Once it reaches that point it can start breaking even instead of profiting and levies will be able to drop substantially (though I bet the then government chooses to keep them the same/increase them).

  4. I bought the motor second hand. When it arrived it looked like this

My guess is Mainfreight hit it with a forklift. But they refused to stand behind it.

It looked like it smashed the rocker cover and glanced off the cam tower without doing any other damage. But after driving it about 1,000ks it dropped onto three cylinders. Must have put a stress fracture at the base of the cam tower so when that broke there was nothing holding the cam at the end and it flailed around and broke level with the closest whole tower.

I dont have a picture of it online but it resulted in a somewhat bent valve.
