  1. On another note, about aa checks, if the potential buyer buys the aa check, they will refuse to give the seller a copy, even WITH permission of the 'buyer'

Ive had two inspections done on cars I was interested in, one from AA and one from some Audi expert in Chch that I cant remember now. Both times I paid and they gave the report to the seller.

When I was selling my E30 BMW the prospective buyer arranged for me to take it through Page European and they refused to show me the report. I had a large argument with them and swore Id never go back (and I never have). A report they wont provide to the seller becomes useless as the buyer can claim theres all kinds of things wrong with it and the seller doesn't necessarily know whether theyre completely made up.

This is what I think of when old school turbos are mentioned:

  2. Here is the 18RG out of the Green one I posted on the last page

Don't quote me on it but there was a reason we swapped the whole motor rather than the head, can't remember what that was though.

This was an injected motor my flatmate at the time ran on Solex's. No major issues doing that. One thing to watch for is some motors dont have a lobe to run a mechanical fuel pump so if theres a blanking plate its there for a reason.

  3. One thing that I have never seen anything so cool in my life is this thing tells you when you are cruising. How does it know I am now doing this!

Since noone seems to have answered this. Its just a vacuum gauge. Not many cars have them because theres not alot of point, basically just a boost gauge that doesnt have the boost part

  4. I think you will find the SIV criteria is that its registered to the first owner...hence why Autokiwi wont put it on the road.....it would lose it SIV once ownership is transferred.

There has been some debate about that recently on another forum I'm on. Centred around this car:

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-ca ... 025555.htm

It apparently was registered as an SIV so shouldn't be able to be sold. It appears the current owners plan is for him to deregister it then the new owner would have to comply it as an SIV the same as if they'd just imported it. Certainly not the way the SIV rules were designed for but not sure whether the rules would prevent it...

  5. If it was an easy road i'm sure the seller wouldn't be selling it '6k too cheap'

Basically the issue is even if an RX7 can get through as an SIV (which I have no idea on) SIV means you have to keep the vehicle for several years. Hence the seller cant register it as an SIV then sell it. If you plan to keep the car for years anyway and can be bothered with the hassle its a good way to save some money.

Though I'm not convinced its 6k too cheap anyway. FDs arnt as expensive as they used to be, especially series 6 with faded red paint.

  6. Surprised theres no Minis in here

    1981 Mini 1275GT in 1999 when I was 16

Small amount of rust in the A pillar and drivers door which was quickly cut out. Then motor was smoking and kept dropping onto 3 cylinders so rebuilt with extractors, twins SUs, hot cam etc. Went well except the stock tyres were far too narrow for the power and back then 12" mags were rather expensive.

  7. Then, the plan is to convert to a V6 or V8 of some description. The buick aluminum V8 is pretty popular from what I've heard, but I have seen one example that took a M series from a supra, and that looks way more fun :D

I'm sure its been done but I wouldn't think an M series would make a lot of sense. The factory had to make all kinds of suspension changes to fit the C series in and even then it needed the bonnet bulge (which looks tougher anyway). No idea how big an M series is compared to a C but Id stick with a 4 cylinder or a V or some description.

  8. I got 7 punctures on my roadbike in about 4 months (including 3 in 3 days) at one point. I replaced the tyres with ones designed to be more puncture resistant and have now been about a year without having anymore problems.

Theyre probably marginally heavier than a standard tyre but not that you can tell without measuring.

Not really an option unless you have 700C wheels though.
