I also have a set of Dunlop LP923 5.5" steels I bought a few months ago that wil give me an alternate wheel choice once I do them up:

I sold the Midget in early 2009 - must be getting old, it doesn't seem that long ago.
It goes well on the flatsides. Doesn't pull very well below about 2000 revs but I think thats more down to the cam than the carbs. Having not driven another GT6 I don't have anything to compare it to. It seems an odd choice so I'm not sure why the previous owner put them on.
Mk1 and Mk2 look pretty similar other than the height of the bumpers. The main difference being the Mk1 rear suspension is much more like a Herald and inspired all the photos like this one:
The Mk2 has quite different suspension and has much less dramatic camber changes.
I meant I preferred the 60s styling of the Mk2 compared to the 70s of the Mk3. Are there even any Mk1s in New Zealand? I've never seen one.

So after 6 years of not owning an oldschool car I thought it was time I did something about that. I decided at the end of last year I'd try to buy a GT6. However, I wanted a Mk2 as I preferred the more 60s styling, the problem being these are stupidly rare. But luckily I managed to be the first to offer money for the one that briefly appeared on Trademe last weekend. I picked it up from Whakatane/Rotorua/Tauranga (its a long story) yesterday. Drive back went well other than the speedo doesn't work and the headlights are dangerously bad for the last two hours in the dark,
Its a 1970 and has had quite a lot of money spent on mechanicals recently. It needs the interior redone and theres a small amount of rust in both rear guards and the drivers door. Given I bought it site unseen I was pleasantly surprised.
Its reasonably standard though has a few upgrades like brand new Mikuni flatsides, electronic ignition, hotter cam, GAZ adjustable shocks etc. Goes well though it is rather loud at 100ks despite having overdrive.

If you look closely in this photo you'll see a piece of wood holding the tailgate up. Its supposed to be held up by a torsion bar by the hinges but like most this isnt working anymore and they're no longer available. So it has gas struts except these are just as broken.
It has the factory option rear seat. These are like hens teeth apparently and having now experienced it I can see why noone chose them. Single worst rear seat ever, theres no leg room, no shoulder room let alone head room and you have to climb over the back of the front seats as they dont go forward enough to go around them.
Here is the rust in the rear guards. As you can see drivers side is the worst of the two though the passengers is worse than this photo makes it look.
Plans are to do not much to it in the short term as my mortgage is looking a bit sick but medium term plans are to continue tidying it up.

Could be tempted. Will decide closer to time.

I'm out. Have a vet appointment.

Is the wheelbase (for lack of knowing a better term) as short as it looks? The distance between the seat tube and the headset looks tiny.

When I used to live in Miramar I always went here

I'd like to know more about how it was owned by a group of people and why they were selling it in the first place. Most of the times I have sold a car if it instantly got restored I would have still wanted to sell it as thats not the reason it was for sale. Wouldn't it have been better to restore one that wasn't being sold?

Just thought I would offer in case anyone wants a ride as I will have a spare seat in my Lotus.
Plan is to leave Wellington early (4-5am ish) Friday morning (Waitangi day) and return after it finishes on Sunday so probably get back early hours of Monday morning.

Will try to come along.

You've got PM

I have one you can borrow. I've never used it to make sure it works but no reason it shouldn't.
I'm in Karori or I could take it to work with me in the CBD.

Triumph GT6?
Has a similar rear side window to a GT6 but everything else is different. Not sure what it is though.

KK I just ran your numbers through a spreadsheet assuming a $2.20 fuel cost and you
- accumulate a 6c per/l for 6 $40 fill ups then spend $50 with a 36c discount; or
- use the 6c each $40 fill up then spend what you need to on the 7th trip with a 6c discount to end up buying the same amount of fuel as the total amount from option one.
The results are:
- Option 1 costs $332
- Option 2 costs $340.45
So by doing your method you save $8.45 per 2 month period.
However, if you filled up 50l each time you would only need to fill up 3.2 times saving you more than 3 fill ups. Because of the extra driving youll probably cost yourself a few dollars in extra driving (of the non fun kind) detouring to and idling at the petrol station.
Personally sounds like more hassle than its worth to save you the price of a single coffee...but if your happy to do that it obviously saves you some money.

I don't understand how that Z28 is so slow. It certainly didn't deserve to win the Sybill Lupp memorial by half a lap...strange handicapping.

Still has a transverse leaf. These photos should show you more than I can misdescribe:
Mk1:
Mk2:
Note theres no shocks in the mk2 pic as they moved the upper mounting point from the chassis to the tub
