  1. Son has a 1971 HC Viva that he’s thinking of possibly getting a bigger engine transplanted, currently running 1159 which runs really well as is, he’s just playing around with the idea lol

He likes the idea of staying Oldskool as much as possible body wise and loves the attention it already receives, but wants some grunt behind her. He’s mentioned he’d love to put a 308 in her, but my thoughts were more something more like Datsun or Torana (no desire for anything Ford or late model related haha).

What recommendations on engine and running gear would you or your followers suggest?

  2. Hey, I know this is an old post, but how did you get on with your Viva conversion?

  3. Any recommendations on where to take 1971 Vauxhall Viva, running 1159 Engine in or around South Auckland area to work on a couple of issues needed to get WOF as quickly as possible.

Recently, attempted to fix Exhaust Manifold Leak but have sadly failed and is still leaking, at the same time the Mechanical Fuel Pump decided to give up.
Luckily, we got a new one and have fitted it, but unsure if we primed it properly (or didn’t fit it correctly) as can’t keep it running.

Also, it was suggested we replace Inline Fuel Filter, which we went and purchased.
Have looked and not sure if it actually has one or not lol.
If it doesn’t, should we fit it and if so where would be best place?

Please be nice, I’m just a mum helping my oldest son with his first Classic Car hahahaha

  4. Hey peeps,

thanks for all the replies. I managed to get a new one, Although, it’s different to the sealed unit that was on it, but I’ve been assured it’s the right one and at least it can be easily repaired.
    I’m sure it’ll be fine.

    cheers

  5. Hoping someone here can help.

Urgently in need of a fuel pump for our old girl, running a 1159cc engine.
The one we have on her is a Sealed unit as shown in pic However, unsure if it’s actually the right one or not as it’s a little different to what is available.

    Cheers

  6. Would like to thank everyone for their responses, I had a guy from FB Group “Vauxhall Trading Post NZ” answer my plea and came over today. It was fantastic, he turned up in an Old Vauxhall Victor Wagon, and is keen to share Knowledge and hands on experience with my son and help him on his journey through owning an old Classic.
Was just what I hoped to find lol.

But, again thanks you guys for all your advice and willingness to spare a little time to help keep the Old School Vehicles alive

  7. Is there anyone here in the South Auckland area that can spare some time………

After a recent WOF check on my sons 1971 Vauxhall Viva, one of the issues it failed on was a couple of Indicator bulbs (Left Rear & Right Front). We went to change them but front one seems to work most times and rear bulb looks perfectly fine but not working.
So thinking it’s an electrical fault not bulbs.

Needing it sorted before WOF re-check in couple weeks.
Old cars are pretty basic but my vehicle knowledge is more towards the motor side of things rather than electrics lol.

Would really like all wiring and switches behind dash checked out and possibly might need to replace some relays.

We don’t mind paying for it to be sorted, as long as it’s affordable. Ideally I’d like someone knowledgeable on Old School Wiring Systems with a little spare time that could share there wisdom and help teach my son, neither of us mind helping out to get it sorted.

    Thanks in advance
