  1. Pretty blown away by the great input in here !

I've posted for years on a guitar forum and that's where I heard about this place.

I know what my I'm talking about with guitars, and have helped a lot of folks out with builds, restoring and advice there but I'm a complete noob with cars so I appreciate all the input and I understand how great these places are for sharing info. So thanks again!

  2. Thanks for the great advice everyone.

To be fair, for the most part all I do is drive her 1-2 km to the gallery/shops/pub in Tutukaka and very occasionally 10-12 km to the beach. In that respect it's not a huugggee issue how it handles. But it's also not a 'non issue'. For the most part I just don't like the look of her lowered. She's so original from the wheel arches up that I just would like to see how she may have looked coming off the factory floor.

I fully intend to keep the widener rims etc and may of course go back to that in time :)

if there was an 'inbeteen' option I might do that tho. :)

Mate had a hr wagon on factory width rim and tires and it went really well, also looked the part. Was a great cruiser and wasnt lowered as such but with six people in it after a long trip it did sag a bit.

@Fuckedifiknow is the mate and the old owner of the front hr wagon.

Depends what your end result is but he might comment on what set up he had.

    Good luck with the hunt.

    Thanks mate

    Wow that looks the ticket.

Yeh, I've got 4 rims now, two are allready blasted and sprayed and the other two are being done as we speak. The local guy who painted the doors has paint left over to throw on the rims so I figure I'll give it a go and take it back to stock. It'll at least be a fun project for beach hop. I play in a band and we do beach hop each year, was hoping to load the boys up in the Holden blues Brothers style and drive round with a loud hailer.... In it's present set up I don't think we'd get very far (our drummer is enormous)...

    Thanks again!

  4. Hmmm all good advice ....

    Sigh ..

    Righto, back to square one...

So I'm still not that keen on the lowered look, but I can live with wide tyres.

If I stick with the current rims, but get rid of the lowering kit, I guess it's back to a higher wall Tyre that will suit those rims.  What's the best bet there ?

I think I got a HR hubcap in my shed actually. I'm your local rep. I'll assist you in any way I can

Great! thanks so much for that. im sure ill need some help!

You guys reckon 185/70 will be an ok tyre for a 4.5" rim? or too wide?

Hey dude welcome. Rusty sills is a great name extremely appropriate for this site. Haha.

Your wags is also real sweet.

    Thanks for the warm welcome.

Yep, seems appropriate when you live by the sea and drive a 67 HR .....

Awesome looking wagon, we need more early Holden wagons here.

Are you sure those wheels are only 6 inches wide, they have a really deep dish on them. The closest to the original sized tire is 185/70/13. HR's standard wheels look a bit lost because Holden widened the Body with the HD/HR over the earlier Models but kept the same track.

Is your reason for raising the car to get a decent ride or do you have some other issues, tires rubbing, lack of ground clearance?

I have a couple of standard EJ Holden wheels that I believe are the same off set as the HR wheels.

    Thanks mate

Yeh I have always had a soft spot for these old wagons.

The reason for going back to stock height is probably all of those listed. Mostly I like the idea of her looking a little more stock and not so 'mean'. I know that won't make sense to a lot of folks but I love the retro look. And yeh, I mainly drive her down the road to the gallery (to drop off paintings I do ...which are weird retro surf tiki art things ) the local pub of to the beach for a surf. To roads out here aren't great and there are a fair few speed bumps. As she is she scrapes a bit, with no one in the back. Put a few surfie mates or some kids in the back and it's scrape city !

    Welcome to OS.

    Sweet looking wagon!

How wide are your wheels? You might be limited on sizes you can use due to the width of the wheels, if you want to keep it legal

Yeh I think they are 6" so Im looking into changing them so I can run something closer to the traditional wheel and keep things legal!

205/60x13 or 175/70x13 are about the same diameter. Google for tyre size comparison calculator should find one of the tools where you can compare different options.

Some tyre places do suspension, check their websites or phone around.

    Thanks mate

I'll check out a few options this morning

    Cheers

  10. Appologies if this is a double post, tried posting from my phone.

Currently my 67 HR special is running wider low profile tyres and has been lowered with new front coils and 2" blocks.

    The current tyres are 215/50R13

What would be a suitable tyre to go back to a more traditional profile that will give me a reasonable ride.

Also, will a standard tyre place sort out the coils and block etc or should I hit up a suspension place. Any once know a reputable place in whangarei?

    Thanks in advance!
