Are you suggesting the repairs are not up to standard?

    No idea about that.

The point is more like this....

A car is advertised for sale.

People question if it was damaged in the past.

The seller rather than saying it wasn't and simply offering past ownership proof has the questions about the damage deleted?

Is that the way you would act if you were the seller and had nothing to hide from bidders???

    Who cares?

You would care if you bought the car and discovered afterwards that the seller withheld, denied and had deleted from the questions information about it's past that drastically effect it's value!!  It's dishonest at best, fraud at worst.

My last "question" on the auction this morning pointing out that the information about the previous damage and ownership had been deleted from the questions by trademe without the seller offering any proof that it was in fact not correct.... has ALSO been deleted.... I smell a really big smelly rat.

If the seller says it NOT the car that was crashed then he should to prove it.... but he can't, so he just tries to hide the truth.  We (various people in the questions) proved it WAS and that evidence was deleted.

It's not at all fair to the person who buys it.

  3. I think I am starting to get my head around the cert process a little.   I have bought and read and re read the CCM and read a bunch of the regulations online.

One question that is not specifically answered in the book....

I have a convertible MX5 from 1990. I have turned it into a Speedster, fully open car with body mods and an Alfa Romeo 3.0 V6.

I am looking at cutting the screen off the car at the bottom of the A pillars.  Then cutting a screen frame from an identical donor car including a lot of the body with it so I have overlap of parts where the screen bottom of the donor parts meets the body.  Then refitting the full screen and screen frame at more of an angle.... by cutting away material until it all fits and welding it back together with extra bracing to the welded area.  Same screen.   Other than doing the work in a workman like fashion and documenting the work and maybe even getting the cert chap to pop to the shed to take a look when needed to see how it's going to go back together.... what else do I need to consider??

The seat will be lowered so head to screen distance will be safe....

    Thanks.

  4. So they allow it for the rear... I think I have a good case for the front being less of a safetly issue.... ?

"A direction-indicator fitted to the rear of a low volume vehicle may be either: (a) an individual item of lighting equipment; or (b) incorporated within the rearward-facing position-lamp and stop-lamp circuits, so that when in operation, the directionindicator illuminates or cancels, as necessary, the rearwardfacing position-lamp and stop-lamp. NOTE: A direction-indicator incorporated within the rearward-facing position-lamp is the standard system that has been used in the American automobile industry for over 50 years."

1 and 3 are probably in here: https://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/rules/vehicle-lighting-2004/

    2. My Starlet hasn't had any side mirrors for years. Hasn't been mentioned in two certs and numerous WOFs. It's kind of annoying not having one when changing lanes.

I just re read that page and it does not mention the minimum height for reflectors, I only read that in the CCM.  As I read it it does not exclude suing the front indicator lamps at the front as position lamps as either can be amber... but I am still unsure

Thanks for the side mirror info.

  6. I have a couple of bunny cert questions.... I have bought a copy of the Car Constructors Manual which I am currently reading and I am trying to get me head around some of the details as they relate to my build.  The car I am building is a 1990 MX5, with body mods smoothing out the body and getting rid of lots of body lines, lowered a small amount on coil overs, fully open Speedster with a 3.0, 12 valve Alfa Romeo V6 driving the rear wheels through a MX5 .

    1. Is there any leeway with the minimum height for rear reflectors on a car?   I read in a couple of places that 250mm off the ground was a min, but I would like to go lower....

    2. With a fully open car (Speedster with not even a soft top) with a good central mirror do I still need a side mirror on the drivers side?

    3. I have headlights (pop up) and one pair of front indicator lights.  Can those indicator lights double as park/position lights?  Normal indicators when the lights are off. Both on when position lights are needed then changing to one side off and one side flashing when indicating??
