  1. Yea some companies will drop your agreed value because if they didn't the value would stay the same for years and years, even if the car was losing it's value due to deterioration.

Your policy gets renewed every year and they send you a document saying "do you agree to the new sum insured" and if you don't you just ring up and say "hey mate, my car is still good condition and great and is worth just as much as it was last year" and they'll put it back where it was.

  2. Threw a new thermo in it this morning and also sanded off the tempt gauge sensor as when I rebuilt it I painted over it, thought it might give me an issue so I sanded it back.

The old thermo was an 88 degree one which I actually was surprised - that's quite high isn't it? I put an 82 in it and it seems to have done the trick.. SO FAR.

  3. Delayed til tomorrow to get this checked.

But drove to work today and it did the overheating thing again for about a minute. Got out, bottom hose was warm as bot the top hose was kinda cold.

I'm going along the lines of needing a radiator clean and new thermo.

  4. Yea it runs an overflow. I had it pressure tested not long ago and everything was a-ok.

I'll see what this guy says and let you guys know, but thanks for the advice and tips. It's such a relief and a help haha.

  5. My mechanic is the man, so I trust him. I hit him up and he said "You never told me it was overheating, get it checked immediately etc" but I'm sure I told him, lol.

I got another family friend who owns a radiator specialist shop in town checking it tomorrow, thank fuk. It's random as though, it lifts and then drops. But I am SURE I can smell coolant - which is dodgey, but I can't -see- any coolant anywhere.

  6. Sup guys,

Man.. again, stumped. And I know jack all about cars.

About 3 months ago my escort got rebuilt professionally. And now my temp gauge fluctuates from time to time. It reads hot, then comes down and settles where it should be after about 5 minutes most times I drive it. But only once or twice over the duration of hours.

I can sometimes get a mean whiff of coolant - and I check it when it's cold and usually it's level and where it should be.

I run it this morning, turned it off and I put my ear to the top of the radiator and I could hear a slow hiss.

I really don't wanna do damage to the engine.

    New radiator hoses, clips etc.

Anyone ever had a similar issue?

I'm thinking I'm gonna get the radiator cleaned and get them replace the therma and also a new gasket and radiator cap.

Le sigh. Hahahaha. Hope it's not expensive!

  7. Cruising down a 50k and a Subi legacy zoomed passed me at full speed, didn't know what was going on. Then all of a sudden like 10 police zoomed passed me. I followed them down into the crappy part of Whangarei and watched the legacy just cruising the laps at about 20km with all his cuzzies out on the road cheering him on.

I was driving a legacy too.

  8. Bugger mate. I just did a bit of research. Being covered at third party or third party fire and theft your vehicle is only insured for it's market value. They would have to do a pre accident valuation by an INDEPENDENT valuer to assess the cost of your vehicle's replacement.

So, even if it's insured for 3K under TPFT you still only get market value payout.

Honestly guys. One thing to learn. PAY FOR AGREED VALUE COMPREHENSIVE COVER TO AVOID ALL HEADACHES.

  9. He got hit by someone else Indiana. If they have insurance their insurance company will pay out as it was their customer at fault. No insurance, third party insurance, comprehensive insurance - regardless of what you have, if the other party is at fault their liability has to cover you but it's subject to their conditions etc.

I think the reason your motorbike wasn't paid out is because the actual person at fault breached his insurance conditions which made it null'n'void. Thus, they refund him all of his yearly premium and cancel his insurance as of the day he took it out, revoking all cover. So he essentially had no insurance when he hit your motorbike.

    Sad stuff.

  10. If he was uninsured, State would pay you out $3500 max as long as you could obtain his details, name, plate etc.

Yep I'd ring State Insurance and get a certificate of currency off of them. Get it emailed to you. They do an agreed value so they have agreed this is what the car is worth if it was stolen and not recovered. Their insurance company should comply and pay that amount out. Should being the key word.

    Good look dude!

  11. I don't think my brother is deluding himself about how much his car was actually worth. He just took issue with the fact it was repairable but the insurer wanted to write it off because they considered all shitty old 1980s Lasers to be the same.

Once I stepped in with the documentation and got directed to an assessor who knew what a turbocharger was, and was willing to actually take a closer look at the overall condition of the car, lo and behold, the compensation sum was revised upwards slightly and the car wasn't written off but repaired instead (not to a super high standard of course, but adequately enough).

    True that.

I guess it comes down to a couple of things really. Is the repair costs exceed the cost of the payable amount. If the vehicle has been structurally damaged to a point of no return.
