  1. I'm just kind of over it, circumstances for mat the moment make it hard for me to keep both. The car is now outside and has been for a few days and it's killing me watching it rain. I've got a car cover but I have to daily it and I hate doing that. Right now, I'm just ready to sell up.

I've got way too much life going on atm.

If a car person buys your car they will fix the diff. It's what car people do.

If some wannabe hipster tryhards want you to fix the diff for them, tell them to fuck off. Otherwise, in two months time they will be ringing you asking you to rebuild the motor and repaint the car and every other little thing that goes wrong with it.

I think you probably dodged a bullet here. Wait to a escort fan comes along and buys it for what it is.

Yea man thanks for that. Had another guy turn up he's rebuilt a MK3 cortina and he definitely knows what he's talking about as he's gone straight in to look at all the hot spots escorts have rust troubles with. Here's hopeful.

  3. Well they didn't take it! Flew up from Nelson and I advised in my listing and to them multiple times that I can hear a very low whine from the diff. I had axels out, I checked bearings (replaced 6 months ago) and I figured it might be a diff bearing - maybe pinion. They took it to get an inspection with the local Ford dealership - they raised this issue, bearing is stuffed and may need replacing soon and they quoted about $900! What the hell. That's insane. They got cold feet and decided not to buy it at the risk of driving it back down the North Island and it crapping out. I said you'll make it to Nelson, don't worry, just don't lock the wheels up and leave a skid mark down the Auckland motorway!

Then I hear from a mate that the guys dogged me about my car!

  4. It's a nice little car. I mean, if you wanted it to be show room you'd have to peel it back and restore. But she's cracking warrants, she goes good and she looks the part for a good time cruiser.

I'm gonna list for 9 and a half. If I don't have any good bites, I'll lower it down accordingly.

Thanks for the help guys. Hopefully a non idiot just buys the car because he wants one, regardless of what he plans to do with it.

So many idiots out there lol. Facebook is a terrible way to waste a lot of time.

  5. I've had a couple of really young guys come and look at the car. I kind of felt like, they had expected it to be a show car in the most mint condition possible. Like it was a brand new car. I felt like they questioned me on the oddest of sounds, like the odd nut and bolt rattling, or my alternator bracket vibrating a bit (explained to them needed tightening, but the way they took it was as if the engine was gonna blow up and out of the hood).

I find it really hard to sell old cars.. people have really different expectations.

  6. The prices I see on TradeMe at the moment for some cars is out the gate. I wanna be realistic, I wanna be ethical and I wanna make sure I'm not cutting myself short for a quick sale. ( I wanna buy a motorbike and also pay off a credit card I haven't been paying much attention too :( )

  7. Hey guys how are we all doing.

I need some help coming up with a realistic price for my car. I'm going to put it up on the trademe in about two weeks. I'm just doing some tweaking and some touch ups to really help wrap it up.

So my question is, what's a good price to set it at?

    What it is:

    - 1976 Escort 4 door

    - 1300 crossflow, extractors, electronic dizzy, ported head and engine was rebuilt 2 years ago

    - Painted in gunmetal grey. Paint is nice and it really looks great but it's not perfect, it has imperfections. Tiny rust bubbles appearing at bottom of drivers door. Otherwise rust is very good, nothing in heater bowl, boot, frames or anywhere that I've picked up on or the WOF man or mechanic has.

    - Car has 13x7 hotwires with 175x50 tyres A539 Yokes with a 2 inch drop front and rear.

    - Interior or very nice, all in black with old recaro buckets.

    - Also comes with a running 1600 crossflow motor

The car is very good, it runs and has passed every wof I've put it up against. It's not perfect but it's pretty good by 40 year old standards. I paid $5500 for it 4 years ago. I've spent a bit and 1600 crossflows are worth a bit too. What do you think is a fair price based on escorts these days?

  8. My mate worked at a gas station said it was a fucking shit hole job and he'd never recommend it to anyone.

He would get abused all the time on the forecourt for asking people not to smoke, for obvious reasons.

He got punched once and always got stepped on by drunk muppets.

And I know another guy that worked at Mobil in Whangarei and if they had a guy do a runner on gas it would come out of HIS paycheck.

Fuck that give the guys a rest, just working a low ass minimum wage job to get shit on by everyone else who's leaving home at 5pm after a shit day at work.

  9. quite often even if you do get an agreed value, the company will depreciate the car annually.  So double check your policy each year to make sure this hasn't happend.

Cos everyone knows all our cars are APPRECIATING ASSETS!!!! lol

This is also true. Insurance systems annually depreciate cars or else they'll forever be a high value which shouldn't be the case.

In the case of older cars, review your insurance at renewal every year and make sure you're happy with the value.

  10. Yep you can agree whatever value you wish - but check your policy wording, you might pay a premium on a 10k car but in most cases with mainstream insurers they'll only pay out market. So you end up wasting money.

Typically a proper specialist car insurer will request pictures of the vehicle in question, and if over a certain value then a professional valuation will be a requirement.

    This guy is right.

Some companies will agree to the SUM INSURED but only pay out the market value UP TO the sum insured.

What you're after is a company that do agreed value. But if your values don't match theirs, they're going to require a valuation.
