  3. Currently pricing up a engine upgrade kit.

Now would be the time to do it before I bother making custom piping etc..

The stock power of the engine is "100hp" 250nM

The small hardware and software upgrade would bring around 230hp and 500nM to the table.

just trying to do the numbers to see if I can make it stack up financially.

  4. Well since my last post, I took some time off to focus on the finer things in life... aka i was busy doing other shit to spend any time on this little nugget.

any who cracked back in to it the other day. this is the progression of progress since then...

    --------------

Assembled and installed the new sub frames, adjustable suspension, brakes etc to get the chassis rolling again...

    IMG_0047_zpsashajpq6.jpg

    IMG_0049_zpsbgr2odu4.jpg

Test Fitted the newly painted wheels ta-da she rolls again (big whoop i know) now my hoist is free again.

    IMG_0247_zpsodbv9pyq.jpg

Proceeded to test fit the new heart to make sure everything clears as it should, and to help visualize where everything will live..

    IMG_0309_zpsql0oeurt.jpg

sits in there nicely but unfortunately the engine cover will sit to proud to allow the bonnet to close, I CBF dropping the engine down (as the sump is low as fck any way)

Few changes here and there, what to do with the Oil cooler, intercooler options water to air vs air to air etc...

Have started merging the looms and tidying them up in a braided type cable conduit.

    IMG_0404_zpslhy0amjq.jpg

    IMG_0407_zpspqbofvbq.jpg

The engine came back out again obviously too, far easier to work with it out.. plus the bay is getting painted this week.

    IMG_0410_zps0d1w08ss.jpg

ECU will sit nicely in the Rain Tray here.

    IMG_0411_zpsfv7uj2oe.jpg

Also powered up the ECU and ripped the standard mapping off the car and have now flashed a 140hp base map and will work on adding in things like Launch control etc with the tuning software later.

Quite cool what you can edit out of these ECU's

Few more annoying little jobs ahead but its really not all that far away from key turn.

    - Installing the Pre supply pump and wiring.

    - installing shifter mechanisim

    - fabricating downpipe

    - sorting out cooling system etc

  5. Ahhh good stuff! The old diesel 1.6 is certainly no speed demon.

Damn those 1.9 tdis must be hugel tunable!

Is that mikes set up for sale?

Also on your firewall youve drilled the holes for the clutch master cylinder, what one are you using?

Currently doing a freinds 1.8t swap and doing the same thing.

Hes using a mk3 clutch pedal

Mike will sell his for the right price.. his motor is ridiculously low KM thou also.

like legitimately the car he pulled it out of only had 38,000km

from experience the MK3 pedal wont work all that well without a whole lot of fucking around. cutting and welding

    I have a Corrado/Passat Pedal box.

But I will look at making a simple custom setup as the Corrado pedal box is getting rarer/ and way to fucking expensive for a shitty 20 year old part.

a MK4 Clutch pedal might be a go as it is a Standalone unit,

the other setup that is good is the cable conversion hinge for the late gearboxes.. that way you can stick to the factory pedal box. but only real issue is that is pricey as f*ck also.

I have a whole lot of fucking around ahead to make custom engine mounting brackets. its not hard but just a fuck around to get 100% right.

  6. Bit more necessary but dumb shit today.

Mounting the Electronic throttle to the Pedal box.

The E-gas pedal and bracket to be.

Where the pedal needs to end up.

Bracket Mostly made and welded to the Pedal box.

Calipers are all done in Retina burning red!

    th_20150719_185740_zpszpoobjb1.jpg

Also started on making the Gearbox mount, when i say making I mean measured and cut the steel ready to draw and cut the template on to them.

  7. Dream build of mine! so damn sexy

Did you just have a 1.9tdi lieing about?

What are you doing with the old parts/injection ?

Old engine is sold, old engine was just a 1.6 non turbo (bit of a snail)

I bought a low milage Generation 4 Golf with a 1.9t PD engine in it. its only 100hp but will computer tune to 150, if i did a turbo and injectors it would easily make upward of 250, some and with more tickling 400hp. but will stick to 150 for now.

Thats the engine conversion i would love to do into my mk2

My mate has a 1.9 with a VNT turbo. and gearbox for sale

  8. Bit of Cleaning, and stripping down today.

    - Soaked the Engine bay with De-greaser and then pressure blasted to clean off 20+ Years of Grime and other shit.

Just a few little things after work today.

Started to weed thru the Sticky cluster fuck of Modern car loom, thankfully only about 1/10th of that will remain after I am done with it :)

    20150716_164151_zps8lkna2ii.jpg

Also degreased the replacement subframes and sprayed over with some engine enamel for a quick tidy up.

    20150716_165754_zpsqkezpf1f.jpg

Stripped the brakes off and dropped them in a tub of Phosphoric acid so that they can be painted tomorrow.

    20150716_165804_zpssw0h0tgu.jpg

    - Also ordered my Adjustable Coil-overs today

    - 22mm Master Cylinder.

    - New headlights.

    - New handbrake cables.

  10. Re shimmed and re assembled the transmission and did a few odd jobs on the donor engine today.

    1. Clocked around the turbo for Engine mount clearance.

The turbo itself is very small but it will do for now.

    th_20150711_153454_zpsrf3bzmnb.jpg th_20150711_153514_zps7ady8ixr.jpg

    2. installed the rear engine mount to suit the MK2 Platform

    3. Deleted EGR and started eliminating some of the unneeded functions (anti shudder valve etc)

Also yesterday I got my new Brake discs back from being Slotted

  11. Yes exactly, plan is to keep it diesel (like I said, 1.9tdi). The swallowtails are the very early ones, I think up to 76, and then they had small tail light non swallowtail. This is the difference:

    Swallowtail

    DSC_0004.jpg

    Non Swallowtail

    golf1_652.jpg

See how there is a curve under the lights whereas on the non swallowtail one there isn't? In my opinion the difference is so small that it's not worth specifically chasing a swallowtail, but cool if you have one. Mine is a 1980 so it isn't.

IMO the swallow tail is ukly AF
