Redrill the car? Easier to convert from 5x100 back to 4x100 but then i end up with lame ass small brakes.
-
Never found any before
First flat back 4x100 set thay is already the correct offset and centrebore.
That and i paid fuck all for these.. so

So I did a wee search before and saw there was a few posts re Wheel redrilling.
Long story short.
I have a set of 4x100 flat back wheels i want to redrill to 5x100
I understand there is no way round to redrill them with some consequential overlap occouring.. albiet slight.

I would sooner not fill and drill (weld) it unless it was absolutely necessary.
(Its bbs rs wheels) so the ugliness of multifit will not be apparent.
If there is no way to avoid welding up the exsisting bolt holes. Who is recommended around auckland who is capable of doing the task.

From experience I have had a few Ryobis (and i still do none of them have died) i even ran over one with a forklift problem is my staff kept stealing them to use on the boat while they are at sea.
they are pretty good band for buck you can have a working setup for under 400 bucks (The new ones have three speed/torque settings)
I have used Hitatchi which were smaller but seemed crazy grunty and i would have got if i had the spare cash..

Well after a super fun day at the OS Christmas Drags
It has become apparent unless I get some more Traction and Sort my tune out I ain't going to get down that Quarter any Faster than 13.7
So I am now looking for a slightly wider Pair of 15 inch front wheels to put on for Drag days (maybe track days too)
And have a little more smoothing out to do on my "Race tune" as Launch Control was not allowing any boost to build so car had no power untill late in Second Gear / Third.
and the Tune without launch control left me wheel spinning the whole way thru third with Tyres deflated to 20psi warm
To Contrast
13.756 @ 108mph with Crappy Launch Control Tune and tyres at 28psi cold
vs
13.743 @ 107mph with No LC on the Tune and Wheel spinning thru third with tyres at 20psi Warm
^^ Annoying huh!
The fact Its running 195/50R15 Road tyres probably doesn't help.
the 60ft Time leaves alot to be desired for too. never managing to get it any quicker than 2.45...
Other than that fricken love dailying the Car. I tend to down tune it to the less aggressive map other wise she becomes a hand full in the wet
--------------------------------------------------------------
On the plus side I have my cert plate fitted to the car now (Thanks Cletus) now I can get my Car insured

so most of the cert process is finished now..
a few weeks ago I attended Drag wars for my first try since the rejig of the engine.
first Run was a 14.3 @ 108mph
Second run was 13.7 @ 106.8mph
then the night was called off...

Changed all my engine mount bolts to Lock Washers.
Two more things to sort out on the check list and I am ready for the cert again...
Also on friday after work I fitted a Oil Temperature gauge and discovered the oil temp was barely getting over 75deg with the new cooler setup.
This is no good. Especially for a diesel. So went out and got a Thermostatic oil sandwich plate. This should help keep the oil at a more appropriate operating temp.
This is probably also why engine temps have stayed very low. Despite the water thermostat being in good order etc.

Decided to refit / reinstate the Rear Bias Valve back in to the mix, I didn't like the Fixed "Screw down" version I had before hand
and I had to sort out my lines on the rear axle.. they were pretty huckery and didn't like staying in their retaining clips.
Also got the rear wheel bearings a little tighter while I was attacking the rear.
Will have to yank engine back out this week to fit the Lock washers to the engine mounts. and sort out any other niggles while I'm there...
It hasn't been great not having a Hoist any more so I have had to revert to using some more Archaic Methods to lift the car off the ground
so here hoping to be all right and ready for the OS Drag day this year.. Missed last year

Well its been running, exceptionally well.
Datalogging has proven difficult. its proving a little difficult to find quiet places left in Auckland you can really bury your foot.
Started the ball rolling with the Cert Process too Cheers Clint!.
Few nigglys holding the car back but I smashed thru most the check list last night!
Its a pretty fun car to drive in the Dry.
in the wet it is nightmarish with the Race / Drag Tune flashed on.
The "Low" Map is far more suitable for the daily drive around the place!
Heat Sheilding & Latermodel Topmounts and Top hats that look better and aren't so "Gappy" haha

I made the Side exit exhaust which takes a few minutes to swap between one exhaust and the other. using a V band clamp.
also heat wrapped the lower section of the down pipe, to protect the CV Joint. and surrounding tunnel area.
Need to make some additional heat shielding to protect the Brake Hard lines from Turbo heat-soak.
Plus air shrouding.
Going to do some Data logging today... to get the tuning underway. I want it to all be ready for Night Speed Dragwars..

Made two exhaust setups yesterday.
Interchangable at the last V Band.
One with a Baffled Coby for when running the in "chill" mode
the other a open 2.5inch that side exits for track and drag rape.
Fixed the PCV crank case breather system. Going back to the 70s and just running a rubber hose to the ground.
Also installed a touch of Bmw for the power steering reservoir. Thanks U Pick
It just fit better then the vw options

Well good thing work was boring AF today, so i went and hid in the workshop for the last few hours and mocked up and Made the Turbo down pipe..
bought a new flexi joint. as the one on the first iteration of the TDI engine had started to collapse.
45 plus gst at Chase... a little steep but couldn't be bothered waiting a few days for a trade-me one to arrive.
Hopefully the inside and outside welding of the triangle flange keep the stainless flange attatched to the steel pipe.. :-/
The Downpipe itself doesn't look overly extravagant but its a tight space between the turbo and the drive shaft and to get the right bends to poke it thru the tunnel at a semi respectable angle.
Trying to get all this shit done before my hoist sells on trade me....

I know the pictures are looking the same and the changes looking minor but it is pulling together again.
(after all this is for my record too...)
Rangi'd up some Coolant pipes. (the clearance is tight between the filter and radiator....
Hell even the Expansion bottle return was a little on the tight side... but it clears the intercooler pipe
I tightened up all the intercooler pipes and got them sitting nice..
The Pre-Intercooled charge air pipe runs super close to the tensioner like last time....
Looking more complete
Chucked the front grille on to make sure it didnt foul with any of the Coolers.
Started making 2.5 inch down-pipe will try finish the downpipe during my lunch break today.

Well after a shitty few months got back on the project yesterday, Making brackets, oil lines, coolers etc.
Re Mounted the Fuel Filter so its out of the way
Oil Cooler Mounted in place
Map Sensor
Made some room for inter-cooler piping
Fuel Lines and Piping in place.
Cooler Lines Shortened to correct length and installed
It all fits pretty well just need to make some Air direction shrouding...
Just need to make the radiator hoses fit nicely now....

Still to go...
- mount fuel filter
- run fuel lines
- mount intercooler
- clamp piping down
- mount radiator
- plumb up coolong system
- find and mount suitable external oil cooler
- plumb up oil cooler
-
Finally got back on the tools for the first time in weeks. And still got fuck all done lmao
But mocked up intercooler/turbo inlet pipe... Then got the sections welded together to cut down on the amount of silicon joiners etc...
Unfortunately the turbo inlet and outlet both point the same direction...and have to squeeze between the cambelt cover and drivers side strut tower and under the brake master cylinder
After a little bit of pipe bending and swaging the ends it started looking better..
I canned the idea of wrinkle black piping for now too and stripped that all back off... And scouring brushed the pipes back to bare ally
Really hope to get this thing fired up soon and start tuning this...
I miss driving the horrid little beast...

Need to get the flanges faced off on monday as im worried about them sealing properly.
-
Well manifold Mk2 is complete...
Now just trying to work out how to brace the fucker off the block... bit hard now its so far away from original position.
Also started putting some heat sheilding around the place.
Installed a external oil cooler too. The factory water type heat exchanger was messy and took up heaps of room from between the front of the engine and the radiator.

Well looks like there is enough room to orient the trubo upward so manifold has been modified and turbo clocked around to fit a little better (in some ways)
Looks like it will be the go. Will do a final weldup this weekend and make a different mounting bracked for holding the turbo.. then hopefully then engine can then stay in more permanently
Just need to shift it a little more towards the port side and it should have ample clearance of the clutch master....

on the plus side it looks like there was way more room than i thought behind the engine so, I will get creative with the turbo positioning.. churr bro
