  1. The car is a Datsun 160j sss so a 1.6 sohc non cross flow 8 valve with upped compression big cam twin carbs etc only about 70kw at the wheels but boy does it pull and I know a bit about this sort of thing as I am an apprentice mechanic but I'm lacking time at the moment till I qualify

  2. Fliboi I have seen your videos and it looks and sounds amazing! Hah I'm just wondering is it going to be difficult like yours was to install? In terms of the amount of sort of pissing around you had to do modding the pcb to get it to do what you wanted or is it pretty straight forward?

  3. Just wondering does anyone have any ideas for how and what to make a heat shield from for between my carbs and exhaust on my Datsun? Because at the drag day I actually stalled after my runs twice at the end of the day due to heat and it would t start until the fuel has reliquified in the carbs and lines

  4. i done/doing exactly what your after with a megasquirt, which is overkill. but what ever route you go i can strongly advise against using the points to trigger the ecu.

i did get my car running pretty well with the points trigger with a bunch of help from fellow OSers but its just very unaccurate and i even had trouble getting it back running after a minor adjustment, so im not converting to tradition hall sensor and trigger wheel with subaru wasted spark ignition,

but also, the benefits from changing to computer controlled 3d ignition curve were day and night so definitely pursue it if youve got some other supporting modifications

I think my engine would benefit from it but its seeming like alot of money to spend when the msd i am running uses points just to trigger and its been rock solid i just dont know my advance curve with weights etc nd feel power could possibly be gained here but maybe for the cost it isnt worth it, iv been quoted 650 for a megasquirt and loom which is cheap i know but costly for the gain?

Ive seen the accuspark stealth blackbox and wonder if i could make this work but unsure as it says to work with hall sensor which i dont run

  5. Im just wondering if anyone can help me i wouldnt mind getting some sort of ecu that will let me have computer control over my ignition curve currently i still run dizzy but with an msd cdi so points are trigger only, i know i can use something like a link to do this and if i chose way later on to do fuel injection then i have the option but i just am really looking for something to domignition only so i can map it on the computer.

    Any help would be apprecisted!

  6. So at my work we have started a little while ago replacing these air bags all the vin numbers are on a list and we cross that against the car then if it needs it the inflator is replaced the airbag itself is fine just the inflator gets replaced takes probably about 30 mins and done.

Fairly easy for us and customers but we havent actually been having the massive influx of cars i was expecting.

  7. I work for a toyota dealership so i can keep you up to date on this, there are 26000 nz vehicles affected but import numbers are unknown at this time, until toyota nz sends out letters to customers and service bulletins to us we cant do anything, there are zero reported cases of anything happening so far on any nz new vehicles, we have had recalls like this before it doesnt necessarily mean if your airbag goes something will happen it is just a precautionary measure, customers will be notified, you bring the car in, we check and replace if need be, oncecthe ball gets rolling they should be rather a quick and painless task to do. Will keep you up to date if i hear anything new.

  8. Update! Went to a track day a few months back and absolutely hated driving this thing around because of the seats, i desperately needed some new ones, i did a little research on what would fit pretty easily without mods that would need certing, found measurements etc decided on fishnet recaros from an isuzu bighorn, picked them up from the wreckers for 250, pretty dirty but in pretty good condition really, cleaned them up at work with shampoo and a wet vac and with very minor ahd mainly unseeable mods they are in and soo comfy.

  9. Ok so one guess was done haha but never the less it was 140 hp, altho im sad to say it wasnt that much it made a very reasonable 87 hp at the wheels not bad i dare say, id estimate that to be around 125 hp at the engine which is not bad for an 8v sohc non crossflow motor, what you guys think? Please let me know also in passing if anyone knows or has any ideas on what my wierd dyno graphs cud b caused by please let me know also, left hand sheet is good run right two are fucked up and unsure why, good fuel pressure, flow, spark everything cheers.

  10. Ok so the whole time i have had thenbuilt engine in i have been tuning using a innovate lm2 wideband o2 sensor and a book called how to build and power tune weber and dellorto carbs, i have a pretty good knowledge of what to do now and have rebuilt carbs and have about 3 spare sets laying around, i have tuned it as best as i can get with the tools and jets and venturis i have available to me, it runs very well and i am very pleased with how it runs, the power on cam is amazing and the torque is great for a little ennigne like this, anyone wana take a gues at dyno power? Kw? Hp? At wheels or engine just curious as to what people think and ill reveal in the next few days.

  11. So next was a few things i needed to do, the cut front spring made for some shitty handling sometimes so had to remedy that with custom made springs and shortened shocks, also jut coz the idea of points bugged me and the electronic ignition module i bought wudnt seem to work no matter what we did i opted for an msd cdi unit which is really cool and gives me a setable rev limiter which i like, then like a year laer i got the adapter to make my tacho go as i had been without one for so long.

  13. Next big change was for the 2013 datsun car club nationals in christchurch, panel and paint was the name of the game, 3 months out the car was checked over and booked in, 2 months out the car was in for wrk and after 8 of the worst weeks ever without my car she was done paneled then painted in fords chilli orange, the bumpers were to be chromed but sum pissing around happened and everythng that was chrome was painted in the silver from the door handles of mitsubishi outlanders (good place to get a colour eh?) it cost me a mint but it was worth every penny.

  14. So with these datsun engines the power is truly all in the head, what i wanted was a fast street car that sounded aggressive but wasnt super hard to drive round town at low speeds, what i ended up with was this, a peanut head as we call them skimmed 40 thou, 2 mm oversized valves from a 2 litre engine, a stage 3 cam grind from franklin cams and double valve springs to suit, i didnt want to go into porting at this stage as i wanted room to grow later on.
