Tidying up little bits while we wait for Distributor and Ignition Components to come back. Fingers crossed they are here before Christmas so I can work on it over the holiday period.
Shortened the Dipstick, made a more rigid mount, and replaced the O-Ringed it.
Finally mounted the Intake for the last time with the gaskets. Didn't Anti Seize them which I'm now thinking I should have.
Replaced all the Hose Clamps on the motor with the same to make servicing easier in the future, still looking for a tidier way to do the fuel lines on the carbs but I think I have that sorted. It's pretty low priority at the moment so it'll come later.
Throttle cable has been run, P-Clipped and terminated. I had a mount built for it to allow me adjustment of the lateral position of the cable end. This lets me adjust the pedal feel if I ever need to by moving the position at which the cable is pulling the throttle shaft from. Also has cable tension adjustment.

Heads all back on, timing done, exhaust back on, wiring underway. Been tweaking some bits in the bay, re routing wiring to hide it below the manifold etc. Starting to tidy up really nice, waiting for distributor to come back then I'll mount the carbs permanently.
Hopefully at the tuner early December.

Head gasket was absolutely clogged, which explains the lack of water flow around the motor. I've known for a long time that the motor has been un happy and it looks like this was why. It would run un predictably hot, but on a infrared thermometer it was only 2 cylinders that were hot hot.
Cylinder bore is pretty clean, a little carbon deposit but nothing bad. In all honesty it'll go back together as is.

Small updates.
ARP Head Studs (actually 2JZ main studs but they work for the head on a 1gge too) showed up last week. Expecting the fuel pump and reg tomorrow.
"Spun by Hutty" are making my trumpets this weekend hopefully.
Carb tuner is pencilled in for later in the month and all the mechanical stuff is booked in to be done next week. (Head on, timing done, cams timed, head studs, manifolds, fuel system etc)
Ignition is the last item on the list, 1gge dizzys are rubbish and we are struggling to figure out what signal it produces (magnetic, hall effect or points). Might get the dizzy mocked onto a Oscilloscope to see what it produces. They are a weird dizzy so I guess we will find out.
Stay tuned

Dropped the flanges off Nick at MFS to weld up. I've had a few bits done through him before and the work is always top notch. Can't wait to see how this turns out!
Some other little bits being sorted out at the moment as well. Have a MLS head gasket coming in for it, doing a little work on the distributor and prepping up some other bits. Want the car going and tuned for summer!

Small update:
Carbs arrived! They took a while to get here thanks to old mate Covid but they are ready to go.
Head has been at Kennely Cams here in Christchurch for a couple weeks. Ended up commiting to some custom cams, a skim, some springs and a couple other wee bits too. Will post cam specs when I pick the head up!
Nick from MFS has been given the green light on the manifold. That’s hopefully 2-3 weeks away.
Starting to come together! Got a lot of bits still to sort out, ignition being the main one, but fuel and wiring will also need attention too.
Will post more pics when I get my good camera back!

Not much to report, Carbs are ordered, hopefully only a couple weeks away but you never know with shipping at the moment.
Been busy getting the manifold design closer and closer to be able to be CNCd. More on that later.
If anyone has recommendations on who to get the head checked, ported and rebuilt by locally, shoot those suggestions my way.

Spent much of the last week measuring and thinking about the manifold for the Carb Conversion. Think I have that sorted, so will try to get some more progress this week on getting one made. I have a spare 1ggte head that turned up this week which has been useful to just look over.
Had a manifold flange quickly drawn up so I could figure some small details out. This was for my original plan which was to use two 4age Weber manifolds (easy to buy) and have a conversion flange on the head. Am leaning away from this at the moment.
Also attached is the one picture that kicked off the carb idea.

Hi all,
Long time lurker. I brought this car out off Dunedin 2 and a bit years ago, off a friend of mine who id hounded for a while to be able to buy it off him. I brought it Reg on hold, no wof, motor not running, manual swap not quite complete, and the interior in the boot. Car is a Hardtop, with the eagle Mask front end, my favorite combination!
A buddy of mine and I drove down, threw it on the trailer and brought it home. Car was originally a 1geu, Auto. It had a 1gge and W57 stabbed into it, but a long way from running. Once it arrived home i reassembled it to see what was missing.
A pic form the day i picked it up
In the 2 years following that i battled my way through making it run. Someone had REALLY funked up the motor loom, and most of the time was spent chasing that. A few spots of rust were removed, Engine painted and freshened up, engine bay painted (twice god damn it). Interior was re instated, wiring loom tucked, coilovers, bushings, booster delete, proportioning valve, strut brace and eventually a full respray. Among a thousand other jobs
December of 2019 the car was certified for everything, luckily it went through with very minor issues.
Car as it sits now
While in lockdown ive been chasing issues with the factory EFI. I hate this EFI system, it is rubbish. Probably more of an issue because of the muppet who tried to fix the loom for the owner before me, but none the less its been a nightmare. So to cure it, ive started collecting the parts to do a full conversion to side draft carbs. Triple webers seem to be the answer in my mind anyway.
Thats all for now, ill detail some of the process in future updates, and specifically the carb conversion. Thanks!

Justin Neil is out to 3 weeks. Suggested a guy Colin Gray? Anyone know of him or used him before

Tidied up the last few bits, will probably end up making a new set of plug leads for the car as I don't like the factory style ones. The lengths seem strange on them.
Dizzy is back in, just needs final wiring to be done and we are away.
