Hi everyone I have a big problem with my old Merc.
I'm asking if anyone can lend or hire either one of the above as I only need to use it once and never again hopefully.
I know they are expensive items so not sure you will want to lend them out but worth a shot.
I'm in Royal Oak Auckland.
I'm not quite ready to use these yet so this is in advance until I get the ecu and mps installed.
Thank youl

Have an old 1984 Mercedes that seems to be lacking power. Think it has a manifold exhaust leak of some kind but need someone to confirm. Dont want to spend heaps on this car because I'm going to sell it asap.
Can anyone suggest someone in auckland that is an honest reliable mechanic?
Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have a small commercial building suitable to store a few cars?
Needs to be dry, covered and secure.
Close to central Auckland preferred but open to all buildings if reasonable rent. Is anyone else looking for storage?

I think you should just leave it. Probably an untrained attendant.

Tell her to stop being lazy and do it her self.
End thread.

Does anyone have a good 5hp 50ltr compressor I can buy? I have a Chinese one I bought now but doesn't seem that great for driving my spray gun.
I've been practicing a bit and wasted a bit of paint already due to not setting gun up properly etc.
I've just realised what an art spray painting is.
Prep work involved is quite extensive.
I started doing a few rust bubbles coming up on my 73 Mercedes slc450.
The weather hasn't allowed me to do allot as it's very damp at the moment.
If anyone has some descent primer left over they want to donate to my practice it would be welcomed. I think I'll paint some wheels first.
Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have a descent secondhand compressor so I can do some spray painting on my car? it needs to be 5hp 50ltr or more. Apparently the cheap Chinese ones say 5hp but often aren't .
I live in Auckland.
I also wondered if anyone has some left over primer or paint. I need to practise first. I think the paint is really expensive and I already wasted a lot due to not setting my gun up properly and overspray.
I realise how technical spray painting is now.

Not sure you can see this link but it's an E type Jag 1964 deregistered and full of rust.
Just sold on Trademe for $33,500
Full of rust and looks like a wreck to me. Wow!

Rail it think it was still bout 700 thou
If you don't care about the car go Rail as it's cheaper however if transporting a nice car go AutoLogistics. Rail are not as professional and I would trust them with a nice car.

Hi what is the cheapest car transport company to get a car (Morris 1300) from Auckland to Dunedin ?
has any one got any suggestions please
Best company is Auto Logistics ph 09 6220909. I wouldn't go cheap. You can trust them to do a very professional job.

Agree. I would be open to doing the work first. Then compliance.
I dont understand why a classic car should have such a strict check. Probably more solid than alot of modern jap cars even with rust

My thoughts on this are at odds with others but wtf. I reckon you can have too many projects. I reckon have one and be done with it. A shitload of projects never get finished - they get moved on. All you end up doing is getting pissed off due to lack of room in ya shed and spend money on them all for nort because they never get finished. One day you wake up, decide to declutter your life quit it/them. This happens heaps. Ones enuff. How many cars can you drive at the same time?
I reckon stay away from these so called certified repairers too. The whole thing is a fucking rort. Get familiar with what it takes to repair the problems then get it done. Finish it top side and under. It should not look like a repair has been carried out. Where there is no smoke, generally fire is not looked for. The 'fucking with your car industry' has turned into one big rort. You can however minimize the depth these prick reach into your wallet by not inviting them in in the first place. Just my thoughts on matters. Goodluck with your project.

or just get stuck in, throw money at it and realise in a few years that you made a horrible decision but you're too far in to pull out so you just keep going and are forever broke and working on a broken POS
It might not sound it, but it's a lot of fun
Exactly what I'm afraid of. I already have one project car now I have two. Scary thing. My other SLC at the upholsterer. Been nearly two weeks.

Perfect, we have another project thread!
Unless you actually listened to that silly man at compliance?
Don't worry about it costing more than the car is worth.
If our cars have a full tank they've doubled in value
Ok won't listen to silly men lol! will continue on.

Unless he has viewed the car or knows of it fairly well, I would ignore him and take it to a repair certifier as per Cletus' post.
They specialise in such repairs and unlike a compliance centre (many of which nowadays only want to comply late model japanese imports - not saying that is the case her but it is a common theme), they will definitely need to physically inspect the vehicle before advising you of the next step.
Is the car driveable? Even if it isn't, if you truly love the car then at least get it towed/trucked in for inspection before throwing in the towel etc.
Car goes. My friend has dealer plates and said I can borrow them so can drive it to be viewed. Great idea will take advice here.
I also just googled for a certifier in Auckland and a whole page comes up of local guys.

A repair certifier would be the best person to talk to before you do any repairs, or at least a panelbeater who has experience in repairing vehicles for compliance.
if it has to go through compliance they will ask for a repair cert, to get a repair cert it will have to be done to how the repair certifier wants it done.
i have had a couple of customers have to strip paint back off so the certifier can see it was done correctly
Rang compliance place in Penrose. Told him what I had and he said don't even bother it wont pass without spending thousands on it and cost more than what the cars worth.

The problem with unseen rust is that it's usually hiding more unseen rust and it's usually more than it appears.
Example: I removed the roof skin from one of my cars as I was suspicious and I found this...
That was from something as innocuous as this
*other side but I don't appear to have any photos of that side prior to cutting
It looks like this now so don't worry
There was around 4 layers of steel that needed replacing there other than the roof skin itself.
Not saying your fire-wall hole is that bad simply to be prepared.
Totally understand. This is why I may not be able to do a rust restore. It probably won't be affordable or sensible. It's beautiful on the outside. What a bloody shame. Is your car on the road again?
-
Wait, why are you looking at me?
The worth comes down to you and you alone. If you were getting that done professionally it could cost into 4 digits, with ease. Is the car worth that to you?
I dig old merc coupes and could do it myself which would make it worth it for me. ..but I'm not picky about paint, etc.
Mostly unseen rust. Only seen rust is the rear above lamp. The rest is internal e.g pillar, floor and firewall. It looks like it has to be done by a pro to get compliance.

people on here have fixed worse cars.
im looking at kyteler..
I have two of these. I bought the red one to use for parts but then I decided it could have a second life. I could be wrong. Been sitting for 6 years so I'm just trying to get it going a little better then I will take it down to compliance to see what they think

Maybe I should take it to compliance center first to find out what the story is on this car because it might be a sad story I'm afraid.
I'll try and take it next week and post up if I'm going to continue to fix it or just sell it as is.
