Hi all, long time no post but wondering if anyone has a source for some discs as mine have been skimmed to an inch of their life.
Would appreciate any leads - cheers

I haven't been back to this site in years but I came across this and it is inspiring me to get working on mine again haha.
Love the wagon, wasn't any around at all when I was looking - and went for the four-door but to this day, little bit of regret I didn't wait longer.
Great work on it - very keen to see how it ends up.

Yeah but all new before the shudder. However that coukd also be it. The tyres that came with my new mags are a bit cheap I reckon.

Thanks for all the suggestions here guys - ended up to be a number of things. Mainly the left leaf mount was broken and it was hitting the chassis which didnt help - also reco of the diff and replaced just about every bush from 1966 in it - much better now - thanks for the advice, seems everyone was a little right in the end!

Hi All
Looking for a bit of experience advice here on a problem with my 1966 Cortina MK1
Had a crowd do my rear drums for a warrant as they needed some work. Since then I have had a bad shudder in car since.
They have looked at it and improved it a little, and I found one of my wheels was slightly bent (just replaced under warranty) but its still there
It feels like it is low in the car, shaking it side to side - this is usually around 97-103kmhr. Its not a slight one either that you begin to expect with an old car - I actually thought a wheel was about to fall off the first time!
They say it could just be the wheels, we all know old cars have a "sweet spot" for this so you match up the studs from that point on and all. But I think the wheels might be a red-heering - we replaced what was thought to be the problem wheel (back left), we swapped the front left and back left as well. You can see a little bit of movement in the wheel rim before, but once swapped they seemed pretty straight on when spun (and yes, I know this means it could be the right side!)
Any suggestions on what could this be? Could it be the drums, driveshaft etc - it seems to be bad at that range of speed (even though you feel it from 70kmhr, its not prominent) and since it was ok before I can only suspect they havent put it together properly or something else has happened.
If you have any suggestions on any establishment which specialises in this sort of thing that would be great too. Ive had the wheels balanced and alignment done - but I kinda need someone who has experience with old cars to more comment here I think. No substitute for experience...!
Any help appreciated

Ah I see. We are after the same thing but me for a MK1! I have some main gauges and surrounds. Like speedo, and the gas tank/oil/temp etc combo gauge. Sorry
-
do you have a mk2 series 1 dash top you'd part with? gauges / no gauges. not important.
hey mate, have you got a link to what you are looking for. I have one perhaps in my box of stuff but unsure exactly what it looks like. Have some gauges too

I have a mk1 gt guage bezel in the shed. I will see if I can find it
Thanks so much! Just let me know. Sorry for the delay in replying, not getting notifications!

Hi all
Just wondering if anyone knows where I could possible get a set or replica set of the Cortina Mk1 GT Auxiliary Center Console gauges?
I want to get rid of the aftermarket gauges I have, and saw the GT had a nice set which would go where my current ashtray is (that I use to store crap really) so looking at possibly putting in a conversion to accommodate the gauges and rid myself of the aftermarket ones which stick out like a sore thumb
Any help appreciated, will look at units overseas if there is an aftermarket supplier like Burton Power or the like too

Weber Specialists are not interested in doing any work on it by the looks. Thanks for the suggestion but they would only do it if they replaced the whole carb, bit pointless since it was just reconditioned a couple of months ago.
I'll try the other guys

Hi All,
I posted awhile ago about the diff in the Lowtina, now I've had it checked and its looking like its near giving up
Been quoted around $750 for a reco, but wondering if this is the price, should I be going for something else or just getting a second hand one
Any ideas appreciated - its ok for now but it will have to be done at some point soon. Just thinking if Im spending 750 is it better to upgrade a bit or what

Thanks everyone for the suggestions - I'll try a couple of these guys - mint!

Looking for someone who can tune the motor/carb on my Cortina. Someone with a gas analyser and preferably facility to change out jets if needed etc.
I usually go to CSL automotive but their pump on theirs is stuffed and awaiting replacement.
Also tried Cottle Motors but theirs is also broken and they can't change out jets etc for my type of carb (2 brl standard on the 2.0L pinto)
Any suggestions to places to take it appreciated.

Perfect! That's all I need to know and for now will be fine. Appreciate the reply!!!
The standard diff is OK to about 160hp (if you're a bit careful), so I'd just fix the leaks mate. I know it's not the same as a $1,200 Quaife (which is probably the best one), but unless traction out of the corners is a real problem for you then $45 on some seals it probably money better spent... and then you have a grand left to spend on beer
If you can't find the gaskets and seals locally then Burton Power in the UK is sort of OK to deal with

Fingers cross the Lowtina doesn't need anything done for its Warrant a few days beforehand
Actually. Both times I've been to this I've had to reco something afterwards. 1st one was the Starter Motor. 2nd the Clutch slave a few days later!!!
I'm running out of things to reco or replace which is good. I guess.

Thanks guys. Sorry I didn't reply sooner, looks like my notifications are not working and didn't know I had any until I logged in.
Shaneo: Yea that is the post I found. I wasn't sure the pricing. Last LSD I did was in my RX3. Spent about a grand and it was mint for the entire time. Was really pleased with it. I'll look into what you suggested so thanks for the info. I've reco or replaced just about everything else so far so Im not going to cheap out and doing anything half arsed. Also the car isn't a racing mobile (yet) it's just got the stock diff right now and it's leakingg a bit so thought about swapping out for something decent.
Retep130: Thanks for the heads up. Will avoid. Cheers.

Hi all
Looking at swapping my leaky diff with a LSD - does anyone know what options I have for my 66 Cortina Mk1?
I've looked online and eBay has options around 300 USD, NZ ones are up to 1200NZD. I'm no LSD expert for the Fords so any help appreciated on what I can do
(I'm not sure if its like the rotaries where a later model Mk has a LSD I can just slot in easily like I did with an RX7 diff in my RX3)
Thanks

Thanks all the pro-tips - Ill definitely check them all out - might need to get on the Photoshop and test out some options! Cheers

Hey y'all
Toying with the idea of white walls - anyone know a good place to get them/look at them?
The 17's and 205/40/17 I'm running are just a killer over bumps and country roads - and I'm always forever screwing shit back together on the Lowtina since the 17's don't have much give - I have the play in the suspension but since the low profiles are so tight to stop a bump hitting the wheel there isnt any play in the tyre
So looking perhaps to go smaller in the wheel, and thought might as well be unique and try the white walls - its not like its a racing car
Any suggestions?
(Not sold on the idea yet - just playing around with possibilities)

STFU

Obviously I blend out there heh - I moved there from central city a month ago, so haven't been there long and the car has been getting work done more than it has been in my garage of late. Just got it back the other day so will be using it a bit more. Ill send you my number (once I figure out HOW to do that) - cheers

Sweet dude - I can meet you from Muriwai out to there - wherever is fine with me. If its raining I may need to give it a miss, I'm hunting a leak on the passenger side but havent managed to have the time to sort it out - the joy of old cars haha
Hey man, yup that was me.
Yeah convoy is no problem.
I can meet you at mitre 10 at 7 then? -
Hey - will come along if I can get through work in time. Not sure if the guy is reading this who gave me the oldschool.co.nz card in the Mitre10 Henderson carpark but you talked about convoying from West Auckland - let me know if so. Sorry, couldnt remember your usertag
