the beast

hiya , so i have a set of 7 inch superlights, im wanting a new set of tyres for them . I currently have 185/65/r13 on all 4 cnrs.   I want to go to a lower profile as the previous owner had lowered the car and when someones in the back i get a slight rub on the rear......simple i thought but no, so after driving around for 2 hours to 6 different tyre shops ,I got all sorts of advice,....shorten the diff ,put on 205/60/r13,175/70/13,175/50/13.... they are going on a ford escort.   Im puzzled now , None of the shops wanted to do a test fit to see if there is any rub,   the 175/50/13 would have a slight stretch but nobody wanted to fit them (the young guys at the shops recommended them ) but the old fellas sounded reluctant to put them on.  so I need some advice please on what others are running on their cars.  cheers johnny.
