  1. Thanks dude, yeah, I have no aspirations to over power this car. Other than some light cam work and a set of extractors (mostly just for the "presence" of the thing). I'll keep it auto and cruise-able.
  2. With the engine sitting in place, we started work on the trans and engine mounts. I'm no expert at this so I'd be interested in hearing what you think of our mounts. I think we over-engineered them, but maybe not?!? Mounted.
  3. And so, next to do was to take off the sump and fit the engine . I don't have the fabled mid-rear sump, so re-fabing a rear sump was another job to do later. Moment of truth...
  4. Cheers man, it's your builds that ultimately made me choose a 2JZ-GE. I started with dreams of 1UZ-FE and 2JZ_GTE's (as you do), but as I did more research they turned out to be more trouble than they were worth. The car belonged to a Hamilton family for 30 years and 2 generations. It was resprayed the origional colour in the late 90's, or early 00's. My old man bought it and stored it for the last 7 years. It's super straight both inside and outside. Nothing but a bit of surface rust in the engine bay. Just one of those cars that don't come round very often, so I had to pick it up. Only the engine was poked, but that only made it easier to toss out for an upgrade.
  5. Always blow on the pie crumbs! Safer communities together.
  6. Hah ha! I've wondered why you kept your 4M? It's beautifully re-built, but still a 4M! It's not out of love, by the sound of it. I'll have a think about selling the head. It's got the standard wear of a 40 year old engine, and I know the rocker arms need replacing. I'd be more inclined to sell the whole engine and trans if you'd take it? PM if you want to chat about it some more.
  7. Nothing a re-build couldn't fix. Most of the problem is probably due to the car sitting for so long. I want the car to run reliably so a modern engine seemed like the best choice given my limited engine knowledge. And those Toyota inline 6's are so similar block wize, they interchange pretty easily. I might get an engine stand for the 4m and strip it down for practice at some point. You're a 4M fan Sheepers, is it worth keeping? The old dog doesn't have many other fans from what I can tell.
  8. Thanks man, oh there will be questions! this is my first build so, I'm learning as I go. The engine/trans came out of an 01 Altezza Gita, and fit into the Crown pretty sweet. It needs a little bit of facrication for the shifter linkage and new mounts of course. But other than that it fit like a dream! I'm a little daunted about the wiring, and considering shelling out for to get it done at a shop. The car isn't actually in Welly with me, it's stored in the Coromandel. So if anyone knows a good auto electrican around the Auckland/Tuaranga/Hamilton area. Give me a shout out. I think I've seen Matt's build? Although I may be thinking of yours Seedy? I'll catch up on my build threads.
  9. Sorted! //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/42944-jtc3ds-ms65-crown-build/
  10. Discuss. Project thread. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/42941-jtc3ds-ms65-crown-build/ Chur.
  11. So, that's all the shots I have uploaded so far. As I get time I'll put them up and add to the thread. I need to start a discussion thread for this also, so I'll look into doing that asap. But if you know you're stuff and you want to discuss, flick me a message as to how to sort it out. That would be greatly appreciated. Cheers all.
  12. At this point I gave it a quick wash to get the dust off, and took a few more snaps.
  13. And here are the two power plants side by side. The 2J looked huge next to the 4m and I was getting nervous about it fitting. That was until it came off the crate and sat on the ground next to the 4M (what a muppet).
  14. The first order of business was to remove the front to get the old 4m out. Also, the bald guy is my father, not me. He'll pop up from time to time as I take shots of the build. It's his garage the car's stored in, and his experience/tools I'm borrowing to get shit done. He's a good old bastard!
  15. The factory 4m was seized, which was the perfect excuse for a transplant. I also scored a 2jz-ge and 5 speed auto trans for stuff all.
  16. And from a few more angles.
  17. So, bare with me here as I work out how to set up a thread properly. But, most important of all.... .....here's the car as I got it.
  18. Test test test, 1, 2, 3.
  19. I'll hunt down the dimensions. I'm in Welly and it's up in the Coromandel. I have to fly up for a week at a time to work on it. Not ideal for answering quick questions at all.
  20. Ah, you guys rock! This --><-- close to a "buy now" on Trade Me. The origional's core is in good condition too. Plus it has an oil cooler built it for the auto tranny (yes, it's an auto). Thanks guys! More questions to come, and maybe I'll get the time to start a thread and show you all whats going on.
  21. Hey all, I'm doing a 2jz-ge swap into an MS65 crown and am currently sourcing a radiator. I can go to a wreckers for a modern one and fab it into the engine bay, but the origional has a sweet fitment in the front bumper. So I was thinking with a cooling fan added would the origional be enough to cool the new engine? I'm googling this as well, but since this is such a great crown community, someone might have already tackled this problem. Cheers boys and girls.
  22. Outstanding work sir! I've been spoilt catching up on about 5 years worth of work in one sitting. Now the reality of 'waiting for updates' is sinking in...... ...and,.. ... I don't like it! I have a little Crown project of my own to put in the forums. Nothing of this standard mind you, I'm new to all this. But I think I found the right place to post. Prepare for questions!
