  1. Thanks, everyone for the great comments!
I got my HPC coating done from this site http://www.hpcoatings.co.nz/PriceList.aspx. There was another guy in Auckland we talked to (can't find the site) but he wasn't able to give us a straight answer for the price (could have been $250-$500). So the guys as HPC were much easier and probably cheaper. Would never use that Repco paint again. It's currently a 4spd but on the hunt for a 5spd
For those that were interested I'll add a photo of the rest of the family's collection :)

    Future plans...
Get the engine running properly. Still hasn't been set up right after putting in the new engine, it's hard to start and runs on - yes it is advanced but if we put it to where it's supposed to be it started pinging when you put the accelerator down (which isn't much fun). So that's the first job. Will try some cooler plugs, and maybe get a solenoid thing for the carb. Would really like to put it on a dyno to get it perfect but will see how we go.

Once the engine is running beautifully I want to tidy up the engine bay (Hide the wires!!), and move the battery to the boot.

Then onto the wheels. Want to paint them up to how they're supposed to look, ie: black where the silver is and silver where the black is.

I'll then look into doing the interior upholstery, headlining etc and getting everything re-chromed, new window seals etc. I think this one is still a far way in the future though.

Thanks for all the interest! Will try keep the forum updated!

  2. The 'Heatproof' paint turned out to be not so heatproof so ended up getting the extractors HPC coated by a guy in Auckland. Big Improvement. post-17850-0-63117000-1412561820_thumb.jpgpost-17850-0-01520000-1412561819_thumb.jpg

We put in some new sounds, which proved a bit more difficult than expected, but we got it done.

  3. I had been wanting a Mk1 Capri for some time. Around October 2013, my Mother and I went to Australia to see my sister Amanda (you may have seen her blue GTE Cortina on this site as well). At the same time, my Dad decided to do a roadtrip, flying from Rotorua to Invercargill, and driving this beautiful Capri back up. When he got to Dunedin the brakes failed, and he managed to make it to Christchurch (without adding any dings) where he got them fixed. There was a bit of work to be done to the engine, so it wasn't until Christmas 2013 that he revealed it to me (and told me how much $$ I owed him). He had reconditioned the head in that time, but there was still work to be done on it so I returned to Hamilton, leaving "Oscar" in Rotorua.

Each time I returned to Rotorua we spent a little more time getting him looking nice. I learnt quickly that I needed to keep an eye on everything that Dad did - This is what happened after I complained about a rip in my seat.

The first job was fixing the handbrake, We took the cable off and got a guy in Rotorua to shorten it for $5. Easy fix. post-17850-0-16007900-1412558834_thumb.jpg

While we were under the car we noticed the exhaust had rotted through. So that was the next job.

We also painted the extractors red

  4. Name: Natalie

    Location: Hamilton (sometimes Rotorua)

Cars you own: I have just bought a Mk1 Ford Capri (1970)

Mods to them: So far not much...have put louvres on, and installed some sounds. Going to get the interior vinyl repaired in a few days as well as the exhaust. Then hopefully it will pass its warrant!

How you found out about oldschool: My sister is on oldschool with her Mk2 Cortina GTE.

Anything else you want to add: If you have any tips or advice about how I could do up my Capri I would really appreciate it! I'm 21 and not entirely sure what I'm doing yet!
