To be honest, it's not just Mazdas, but cars from the 70's in general have sky rocketed in price in recent years.

A RX-3 coupe is a $50k+ car but an XB falcon coupe is probably double that? Monaros are are getting up there and even a HQ with a V8 in it is over $20k now.

It must also be something to do with the fact that people who have owned these kinds of cars for years or decades are seeing the crazy price that these things are selling for and thinking, "Shit, my one is nicer than that" and boom it's listed at $50k.

Doesnt mean they sell for that.

But it does have the effect of people thinking if they don't buy one now, they will never afford one. Kinda like Auckland house prices.

My wife wants a HT Monaro, but I don't want to pay $90k for one. But at the same time, they aren't going to get any cheaper. So I either pay $90k for one or $120k in a few years time.

If I buy one now, I could sell it in a few years time and make $30k or wait a few years and pay $30k more.

Or pay $90k off my mortgage, but where's the fun in that.

    Get a cat.

Agree Kiwi808. I am still annoyed for not buying a decent 240z that was on sale in Wellington a few years ago for 17k. Goodness knows what it is fetching now. Hens teeth. I wonder how many original rx2/3/4s they are still buzzing around NZ now...?

  2. Ahh see I never realised it is actually a race car. So yeah cage is a must. I just was thinking 'another road car with added cage for cool'. The worst is added cage for cool made from plastic pipe.

Just to prove I take her on the track...

  3. This is Ian's dedicated race car so the roll cage is compulsory.

    Cheers Johnny.

Popwill can we have a picture of both of your coupes together please?

Actually I don't have many of them together. They're in lockup down country for the moment, so will have to reuse an older photo.

  4. Imo ^ that would look nicer without the ugly guard mounted mirrors and race seats/cage.

Damn guard mirrors spoil the lines of soooo many cars.

Yeah I get you yoeddynz... it look a bit of guts to turn it into a track car...but it was sort of in between - it wasn't a minter but it was in nice enough condition to turn into a mix street/track car. I can drive it to the track and race then drive home. Re the guard mounted mirrors I dont like them much either... I wanted to get some original mazda ones, but couldnt find any. These are temporary until i track some down. Race seat and cage are needed for me to track it. Ran it in a couple of Classic trials. Got a heap of interest in her...even from the old school pistonheads. To be honest I'd like to see more classic rotaries out there competing.
