  1. Hi all and welcome to my thread on the Triumph Dolomite  I have in my car.

It's quite a special wee thing in my opinion as it registered originally in the UK and imported here at about 8 months of age and spent a lots it's time in the South island around Christchurch until it was purchased by the car dealer whom sold it to us.

It hasn't been the most reliable car, but has done a trip to Auckland with only one minor problem. And several short ones.

I think it was run on a tight budget as in the bodywork department it was a bit interesting.. (Will show photos once I work out how to upload from phone) and had a lot of mechanical things being just holding together or very badly repaired.

After a year and a half of use in my ownership I thought it was about time to address the engine and it's oil consumption problem. Now I'm not actually sure if it actually burnt any but it most definitely leaked it. So much that it's nessasary to check the level on a long trip. It appeared to leak from just about everywhere. So I decided it was time for some attention. So engine out and started removing peices as id already brought gaskets minus a head gasket as id planned to leave this. However it appeared as though it's be best to remove that too! Which turned out to be a good idea as the piston gap in the bore was quite bad as were the bearings... and the gudgeon bushes and also the exhaust valves and guides. So a large pile of new bits was acquired and the block and head were shipped off to an engine rebuilder. Its not all back and reassembled and looks pretty good, hopefully it runs well.

The rest of these are all random, One is of when i met up with Blake in Feilding. One or two From Manfeild with a 2500 TC with a Rover V8 in and a photo of the seats Snoozin helped me get. Might be one of the Dolomite in there too

  3. Yeah. Pulled a bigend and a main off. And both were worn. Ideally it'd make sense to spruse up the head and new rings as well.

I'll see what a compression test does though and ill take it from there. As UT needs a new clutch I would have done the seal like you did Blake. I'm putting a better rack that doesn't leak in with new tie rods and stuff. So money will be spent whichever way I go about it. I've been in contact with Motor machinists in Palmy and they're getting some quotes for me. I could find a spare Tc crank and just do the shells but why do a half assed job?

  4. Hello all, I'm not new to oldschool but I haven't posted before. I have recently purchased a 1974 2.5 PI. (I'll try to add a few photos in as I go) sight unseen from Timaru no wof, no reg no worries?

Anyway I sorted a few obvious problems. Including a non functioning alternator, a new airel and a door mirror just off the top of my head. And then got it down to see what it needs for a wof. It came back needing both lower balljoints, an adjust on a wheel bearing and a small bit of rust which turned out to be nothing! As I write this I'm waiting for some bushes to arrive. The rust has been fixed, the wheel bearing has been adjusted and one new front strut insert shock thingy has been fitted. I have fitted the balljoints into some spare lower arms I had and am waiting for bushes to arrive so I can fit them along with new bushes (radius arm and lower balljoint arm ones to be exact). I decided not to be tight and replace them all at the same time as I was taking it all apart anyway.

I have also already got a white 1977 2500TC which has all the S goodies and even badges on. And she 1976 French blue TC which is being repaired body work wise and will be resprayed eventually.

I hope to keep you all up to date with what's going on with these cars etc.

I will also start a post over in the discussion area so we can all talk about it if you're that way inclined.
