  1. Hi guys, thanks for the replys. When I first took it into a garage they tried the regreasing it option and said they'd improved the play, but it still didn't surfice for the WOF. Thanks Rookie looks like that's what I'll order if I can't find anything over here

  2. Hi there,

My mk2 Escort failed its WOF, due to "too much play in steering" referring to tie rod ends and sway bar bushes.

So I got those replaced, and took it back it still failed, this time the guy said there was still too much play on the "inner left tie rod", specifically the joint which is covered by the rubber boot... so I am assuming I'll need to replace the tie rod itself...

Can anyone recommend the best place to source one of these. For a 1980 Mk2 4 door 1.3L

    Thanks in advance

  3. Hi there,

can anyone on the North Shore recommend me somewhere to take my mk2 Escort to change the exhaust. I'm from the UK so don't know if there are companies to avoid (e.g. Pit Stop - they any good?) or good local garages. Im in milford so anything in glendfield wairau area?

Basically, the guy that owned the car before me put a loud exhaust system on it, well particularly the back box and it looks 'boy racer'... its a slow 1.3 so it looks wrong and sounds louder than the car can accelerate so i don't like it. want to get it changed to something as close to standard as possible.

    any recommendations appreciated

    thanks in advance

  4. hi,

This is the first classic car that i've owned, always loved classic Fords, especially Mk 1 & 2 Escorts...

    Can't afford a 2 door yet so I went for 4 door Mk2.

No big plans, just running it more or less as is, there are a few bits to sort but I think I'll be keeping it as standard as possible.

Here a few pics. Got it back in June, I've since removed the crappy thing dangling from the mirror and the Jagermeister sticker.

Discussion thread although there's not much to discuss at the moment haha //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/41168-1980-ford-escort-mk2-13/

Here it is when I first picked it up:

And a trip out to Piha in it...

Anyway main plan is to refurbish the wheels as they are a bit rusty (unless I can find some period looking alloys, I love the 13x7 look but don't want to be rolling arches or putting skinny tyres on).

And sort out the exhaust, something standard looking. It doesn't look right and because it points upwards, one side of the back of the car is constantly dirty.

In the mean time I will be saving up for when a 2 door comes along!

  5. Hi There,

Firstly a hello from a new member, I've just bought (well back in June) my first classic Ford, a 1980 Mk2 Escort 1.3 four door.

I'm currently looking at wheel options for it.

Coming from the UK I am used to seeing RS 4 spokes and Superlites put on, but I know that the -7 offset on the 7" superlites mean they don't fit under standard arches well.

What 7x13 Hotwires? Can anyone give me more info about these? What offset are they and do they fit under standard arches?

    Standard suspension btw.

    Cheers

    Simon
